Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
osmosisch replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
I've been in this camp for quite some time now. I'm not a 60 fps person so for me the portability and convenience win out soooo much. I'd hate to miss being around the living room like I can be now. -
You and Chris keep bringing this type of person in here who's smug, and trying to 'win' at something. I don't feel that is at all relevant to the discussion at hand. Further, in the case I quoted, isn't eating at a privately-owned eatery in the vast majority of cases going to be a greater net societal benefit than funneling money into a chain? Is the fact that Chipotle is not even trying to pretend to be genuine something that makes it preferable to eat there on the chance that eating somewhere else might make you feel unjustifiably like you're doing something better? That feels rather defeatist to me. I'd rather try to make an effort to find out about the place I'm eating at.

Update: Got a mean flu (I suspect from being so tired), so past week has been mostly sleeping and drinking lots of fluids. On the bright side, I felt well enough today to start work on this again. I'd been looking for a sensible pattern to integrate actions/logic into the app and Flux seemed the most natural fit. Integrating it took a bit of headscratching but I'm pretty happy with the current way updates/reloads should work as I understand them. Again, code's up on github. Not much visually to see (although I did add coordinates to the hexes for visual debugging) Board expanded by one column on each side to correspond to the real game. Now to see whether I can get some actual gameplay in there before the jam ends :S -

Idle Thumbs 239: Trash Can Sally

My favourite 'clan' is my current Steam one, ~*Delicate Gamers*~ which isn't so much a clan as it is an addition to my team name calculated to maximally irritate people I killed in TF2. The fact that most of my friends thought it was a hoot, and added it to their own steam names made the whole thing delicious, especially when people would complain about 'clanstacking fairies.' -

Haha, goon guilds, both the best and the worst. -
looks like the quickest fix would be to try 'npm -g install source-map'

Update: - made a live-reload setup so that I don't need to manually rebuild when I update game code - added Falcor to load the game data from the backend (because I wanted to know how that works) - restructured the app to be more in line with React principles (data down, actions up) - created backend data for one beast, one board, two classes (work in progress). So a lot of learning as far as framework stuff goes (this was a study week after all). New code's up at the github. Todo: - integrate Flux for a sensible action / reaction pattern - actual game logic Reasonably satisfied, and a very enjoyable week. I'm dog tired now though. -
Very dramatic! I super dig the style as well. I'm guessing that rune script's drawn and not supported in cwine itself

My rankings would be something like 1) Incredibles --- some space --- 2) Finding Nemo 3) Monsters Inc The Incredibles is the only Pixar I completely enjoyed so far. Ratatouille is ridiculous and creepy (yes rat, please make me kiss the girl, I mean what), Toy Story was so boring I never bothered to see 2. I was moderately positive on Wall-E until the credits film of everyone just planting over the ruined earth pissed me off, like that could ever work. But I guess they painted themselves into that corner.

The only thing that would get me to back this is more disclosure about their actual funding because there's no way they're making the game I want on that budget.

Haha, that's an excellent parallel. Way-too-long but with some fascinating ideas. MS&T blew me away when I first read it, and considering that I was also in the middle of the Wheel of Time books back then, they actually felt concise and well-paced. I've read most of Williams' stuff since then, and have enjoyed most of it, though I'd definitely rate the quality lower these days, having read some better stuff.

That sucks, man. Sorry to hear it. One wouldn't normally expect fight to result from a job upgrade (from what you write it's great for her), but things don't always line up that way. From what I've read here, you might want to consider how much you're letting your past negative experiences prevent you from taking the windfall and adapting from there. Sometimes the best you can do is hope for the best. But that's hard.

I had that precise same reaction to Hamilton's magnum opus. It still holds a soft spot in my heart though. He was sort of a gateway drug to Iain Banks for me. Vandermeer's thing is alienating creepiness, I love his Ambergris works as well for that. I'll have to check out Southern Reach.

Wow, Up and Ratatouille are way near the bottom for me. I guess I should get around to seeing Inside Out then
