  1. Books, books, books...

Man, I love me a good tangent. It's why Neal Stephenson is one of my favourite authors.
  2. BioShock Infinite

    This made me laugh: http://www.cracked.com/video_18568_why-explaining-new-bioshock-isnt-worth-it.html
  3. Books, books, books...

Well, sure. Prague also has the interesting insanity angle (though they share that to an extent). Prague also traces quite nicely It's definitely a book with value, it just left me vaguely disappointed because so much of the material was a retread for me having read Pendulum probably three or four times. What I should have said was probably something more like "If you want to read more Eco conspiracy writing you should pick up Prague Cemetery next" next but the internet puts me in snark mode too much. Sorry about that.
  4. BioShock Infinite

My favourite is the vocal rendition of Fortunate Son.
  5. I would like to see Irrational do a Dead Space type game. That would be interesting.
  6. Yeah, I see where you're coming from for sure. Ultimately my disappointment boils down to my realisation that the game's ambition and story are so small when contrasted to the invested resources, possibilities of the sci-fi stuff and the grandeur of Columbia. In comparison Bioshock 1 had a lot more to say on a much more general level, in a much tighter space, which definitely appeals more to me.
  7. Flashback

Huh, I could never get through Prince of Persia or Another world, but finished this one at least three times. It holds up for me (the most recent time was ~4 years ago),
  8. There's a lot of Chekov's racism which is left unadressed though. Not to mention the fact that the root of the entire conflict in Infinite is pretty directly at the foot of racism/nationalism (wounded knee). The way in which the game's story then focuses on Booker/Elizabeth to the exclusion of anything else results in what I find in the end a rather shallow and self-centered ending.
  9. Man I didn't even consider that alternative ending. That would have been so much better, and less self-centered.
  10. Flashback

I still have my Megadrive cartridge so I feel justified in emulating it
  11. Flashback

    x100000
  12. BioShock Infinite

Did anyone already mention the possible symbolism in the names of several characters besides the Luteces? DeWitt means 'the white' in Dutch. FitzRoy is a surname commonly given to illegitimate royal offspring.
  13. They make everything decilicious!
  14. BioShock Infinite

http://sexyvideo gameland.blogspot.nl/2013/04/bioshock-infinite-now-is-best-time.html#more'>Lovely piece by Leigh Alexander about the game.
  15. The thread here got some pretty interesting discussion as I recall. I think you're selling it short.
  16. My first thought re: Comstock is to think of Cryptonomicon honestly.
  17. Books, books, books...

You can now safely skip The Prague Cemetery should you have any intention of reading it since it is for a significant part a rehash of Pendulum. Not necessarily a knock against it (it's still great Eco conspiracy writing).
  18. BioShock Infinite

    Haha, bravo.
  19. BioShock Infinite

I would say that is even worse. Both are kind of iffy though. I found hard to be OK except for handymen and the spoiled bit.
  20. The Idle Book Club 8: Cosmicomics

The question could be posed whether it's necessary to get away from that though - write what you know and all that. Still, to be truly great I suppose it might be necessary to be able to portray all of humanity, not just 50%.
  21. BioShock Infinite

Just turn down the difficulty. It only really affects bullet-sponginess of enemies.
  22. BioShock Infinite

I don't think anyone could disagree with that. http://dubiousquality.blogspot.nl/2013/03/bioshock-infinite-impressions.html'>Bill Harris said it best, really.
  23. BioShock Infinite

TK as applied to NPCs basically got folded into the other powers, and Columbia has a lot fewer environmental stuff lying around. It makes sense considering the amount of sheer drops.
  24. BioShock Infinite

I wouldn't say nuts, more having high hopes; Bioshock 1 fit past me better than Infinite does current me and I was hoping for the reverse to be true. Phrasing it that way is my way of ackonwledging that a lot of it has to do with who I am at this moment - I hope that was clear. BTW @Mington: the PC version looks absolutely stunnigly gorgous and runs like a charm on my laptop.
