...its better at picking flat things up off of a table than I am. This is the day I realize how terrifying a robopocalypse would be.

I sometimes feel disappointed that the whole plastic instrument subset of the rhythm game genre burned itself out so quickly. Playing Guitar Hero and Rockband were some of the most fun times I've had with friends.

Notch makes the worlds oddest typing teacher?

...this is the first time I've really felt like everything I knew was wrong. My entire world is turned upside down in the weirdest possible way. -
I felt the same way several times in the Assassin's Creed games, though not to the extent I would have if I had used explosives.

I loved Harvest Moon 64, and wasted many a weekend playing it. My other initial answer is actually less of a full game, but more of a level in a game... The Milkman Conspiracy level in Psychonauts just felt... good. It was nice not having to worry about destroying censors or other opponents, and while I suppose technically there is a sort of threat of violence with the shady people, it never felt like an overtly violent level. Especially when the level prior to it (Lungfishopolis) saw you as this gigantic city-destroying monster crushing everyone who opposed you, Milkman Conspiracy felt like a nice palate cleanser.

Bah, Donkey Kong 64 is one of the greatest games I have ever played!* *This post was written while riding waves of nostalgia, your mileage may vary.

Wow. That is one impressive lego-bot.

Understanding this joke just made the Greek Mythology class I took in college completely worth it.

Recommend me some good two-player co-ops! (Please!)

What about Minecraft? I find it to be a much more satisfying experience when I'm playing with friends. ...although if neither of you have played before you might want to look up some common crafting recipes so you arent completely helpless. -

I too am shocked that Mavis Beacon is not, in fact, a real person. -
My mom decided to buy a few of the Nancy Drew games. It has been a few years and neither of us have come close to beating any of them. Those things are much more difficult than they appear.

I have been a lifelong Simpsons fan. It has been on the air longer than I have been alive, and I have been watching it at least since I was in Kindergarten. A few nights ago, I marathoned all of (the currently released episodes of) Season 24. I am glad to say that the show seems to be getting better, in my opinion at least, than it was back in the Season 15-19 range. It's still not as good as the classic Simpson episodes, but there's an effort there that felt lacking in some seasons. I also recently started watching Adventure Time. I cannot believe how much I like it.

Idle Thumbs 103: A Person-Shaped Thing is a Person

This is basically why I dont think I could ever play Neptune's Pride 2 with anyone I know. Right now I'm playing against people I'll probably never run into again, and thats fine. But there are times where I just feel like backstabbing someone, and I dont imagine that going well with groups of friends. -
Idle Thumbs 102: Standing on the Shoulders of Babies

My Neptune's Pride 2 match is about to get... violent. What started out as a simple bottleneck of my progress has turned into a complete blockade by another player preventing my progression. I've been offered tech by another player to helping take out the player blocking me in. I'm now biding my time, increasing ships and planning my attack. I've never felt more alive then I have playing the slowest paced strategy game I've ever seen! -
Okay, so, besides Idle Thumbs and the Idle Book Club podcasts, I also listen to... ContinueCast - the only other podcast I listen to about video games, described as a video game book club where they dedicate two episodes per month on a video game, encouraging listeners to play it and send in their opinions. Funny, and hosted by the guys who do a youtube show called "Continue?" . This American Life - interesting stories, I find it to be a better podcast to listen to when I feel like something serious. Left Handed Radio - mostly audio-based sketch comedy episodes. Also some funny fake sequel movie script episodes. Its good, but I dont really have anything else to say about it. The Complete Guide to Everything - by far my favorite podcast (sorry Thumbs), the hosts Tom and Tim talk about anything and everything, They really work well together, and it was the podcast that really got me hooked on the medium. The Tuesday Club - A podcast about the Arsenal football club. I don't have much of an interest in the sport, to be totally honest, I mostly listen to this because I enjoy the accents... its just soothing noise to have while I fall asleep.

Excuse me if this goes on a bit long. First of all, I am currently unemployed and looking for work. This is extremely frustrating, and I'm starting to run out of savings to keep me afloat. Because of some dumb decisions last year, I did some work for several months and have been trying to get paid for that work for the past 5 months. It has been nothing but a train wreck and a huge hassle and is just a horrible weighty stress on me at all times right now. Its gotten to the point where when people talk to me one of the first things they ask is, "So, gotten paid yet?" I have no girlfriend or serious relationship, but would desire one. But right now I dont want to try for anything because I just feel its more important to work on getting a job first. But on the plus side, I'm in good health (well, mostly. I had an ear infection last week, still sort of feeling some effects from that) and I'm relatively happy, so there's that. Happy, but stressed.

Well, the other day I played through Twisted Pixel's "The Maw". Short, but fun. (I did not buy or play the DLC.) But, in slightly more exciting news... I finally got all the achievements in the 360 version of The Cave. I love that game, and while it did have some problems, I enjoyed all 20 or so playthroughs of it I've done.

Idle Thumbs 102: Standing on the Shoulders of Babies
Ucantalas replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I joined a random game under the assumption that, like most games, I would just "pick it up as I went". While it was true to an extent, now that I have been perusing the help pages and learning a bit more of the ins and outs of the game, I realize there was a lot I could have done better at the start if I had just bothered to read up on it. (For instance, I am now completely out of cash because I upped my Science infrastructure on a very expensive planet... It doesnt mean I wouldnt still be strapped for money in-game, but I could have made that money go farther.) -
I usually have several books on the go, between 2 - 5 at a time. It used to be that I would simply have one in each of my commonly visited rooms in the house (one in the washroom, one in my bedroom, one in the living room, etc) and just pick that one up if I had time to read in that room. Now I've moved and haven't been reading as much as I should, with the exception of some public domain books I have on my iPod, so I'm usually only reading 2: Whichever public domain book I am currently reading on my iPod, and "A Feast for Crows" by George RR Martin. It's currently sitting beside me, half finished and taunting me.

Idle Thumbs 102: Standing on the Shoulders of Babies

I just wanted to drop in and mention that because of this episode I started playing Neptune's Pride II. So thanks for that, it got me into a strategy gaming mood. I reinstalled Starcraft and played that for a bit, before stumbling on why I enjoy Neptune's Pride II so much: I actually have time to think. Those 13 hours it will take my fleet to get to a new planet? Time for me to figure out my next move. In Starcraft, not so much. I am not always a fast thinker, so the slower pace is a nice change for me that I really appreciate. ...also, it means I wont be spending half an hour straight defending my base from the Zerg while I have other things I really should be doing... -
This looks really interesting. I really dig the bleak, sort of dystopian setting going on here.

I got a 3DS XL cheaply during a boxing day sale this past holiday season. I love this thing. Although at the time I was living in a small town, so I found the whole Streetpass thing very... well... useless. But, now that I live in a proper city, it has become... well, not useful, exactly, but just something fun to keep with me if I go out and about in the city.

Hello everyone! I created an account here today after hearing about the forum alot during the Idle Thumbs podcasts, and decided I would come here to help get my fix of gaming intellectualism between episodes. Because I see some others talking about this, I guess I'll mention where and how I started listening to Idle Thumbs. It was the month of November, maybe December, 2012. I had been listening to a podcast that I had been following for a little while ("The Complete Guide to Everything", not video game related, but very funny) and then the power went out because of a massive snow storm. The power was out for 48 hours, and then it came back on... everywhere in town except the street I was on, where it would be off for another 24 hours. I went with my mother to her work, which had power and an internet connection, and downloaded the newest episode of TCGTE on to my iPod so I would have something to listen to while the power was still out at home. Then I decided to look for other podcasts to download episodes of, and started looking for video game related ones. That day I stumbled across a few that weren't great quality, or had died off years ago. And then I found Idle Thumbs. The description sounded good, so I started by listening to the first little bit to see if it was any good. The theme song alone had me hooked, and I downloaded about 4 episodes, and listened to them over the next day as I was at home hoping for the power to come back on. ...that went on a bit longer than I expected. So yeah... hi.
