  1. I am just trying to back up Rob on why historic sites might not be interesting to him, by explaining why they're not interesting to me. It's fine that other people like them, but it's not bad to not enjoy them. Posters explicitly said they had a hard time relating to that feeling and I was just adding another voice. Believe me, I know why other people like them. I think they're boring as hell and if I never get dragged to another one on vacation again it will be the best thing to every happen to me.
  2. We went in September which is the beginning of the off season. Athens is a pretty ugly city and when you are packed into the Parthenon with 2 cruise ships full of tourists and everything is surrounded in scaffolding because they're trying to repair and undo the damage that restoration efforts 40 years ago did, which were trying to undo the damage that was done 40 years before that you can really wonder why you spent a whole day there instead of actually experiencing what is cool about Greece today. History is interesting to me because it's the narratives and stories we construct about events that happen in a desperate attempt to determine cause and effect not because someone used to wrestle near some columns that are now fallen over.
  3. Ruins/ancient/historical sites just dont appeal to some people. That's okay. They're super boring to me and I have been to Greece. There's a bunch of stuff I loved, like the food and the beach and the wine, but I thought the ruins were very underwhelming, crowded and uninteresting.
  4. Still newer forum!

  5. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I think the Switch is the first console I ever buy within the first month, let alone year of launch.
  6. I used to listen to Legendary Thread before I even played WoW. Long live the scarab lord.

  8. Analogue: A Great Story

I'm part way through day 4 on my first play through. I'll save my thoughts for after at least finishing this play through, if not 2 more after that, but I am really glad that this has been selling well initially for Christine according to her twitter. I'm kind of relieved that I won't be broadcasting to my steam friends that I'm playing it too.

There's no way Republican congress would let it happen.
  14. Destiny

Luke Smith is in my short list of internet crushes, and the fact that he has disappeared from regular podcast rotations is a travesty.
  15. Nonviolent Ant Farms

He pretty specifically asked for non-violent, and if that's something he wants, story of seasons is better for that. I don't think any of those games actually fits what he was asking for though.
  16. Nonviolent Ant Farms

If you have a 3DS I would recommend Story of Seasons over Stardew Valley. Star dew makes you do mining & combat bullshit which were the parts of Harvest Moon I hated most.
  17. Duolingo - TWO LANGUAGE-O

I've found that I'm actually better at learning and internalizing noun gender using Duolingo than when I was taking traditional coursework because repetition and hearing it conjugated and tensed over and over helps the most for me.
  18. Duolingo - TWO LANGUAGE-O

I started taking german classes in high school in 2005, and took them all the way through my sophomore year of college. I had exhausted our German department's language series and would have had to switch to taking film or literature which I did not want to do. I've been back in the swing of duolingo every day for the past 2 months or so. Pro tips: 1. if you're using an app version, be sure to occasionally log in to the website because if you feel like you want more information on a specific topic, you can get descriptions there that more explicitly lay out rules. 2. You can also turn on/off certain kinds of questions (like listening, microphone, etc) 3. I would recommend doing 2 things each day a. the next lesson and b. the little weight to strengthen you existing skills. It does a fairly good job of incorporating older lessons in the newer stuff, but it's hard to hold all the vocabulary in your head if you're not using it.

  20. I'm so happy to see Burly Men at Sea listed. I played it at Day of the Devs in 2015 and absolutely fell in love with it. Burly Men at Sea, Firewatch, Oxenfree, & Night in the Woods are just a handful of games that had me so excited coming into 2016, and so far they've delivered delightfully

  24. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

I don't understand the drive for a TI winner to switch their roster. REST IN PEACE EG.AUI_2000
