  1. Subnautica: Sleeping with the fishes

This was at Day of the Devs in SF last November and looked like a joy.
  2. In ppd's defense, his twitch, twitter & snapchat accounts were all hacked. Against ppd is that super rude tweet from him about the messy shuffle, that is still up on his twitter. He also tweeted that his blog post was too emotional, but he stands by it. I'm super impressed by Aui's restraint in this situation. I think Charlie, EG's manager, did as much as he could to say that he's disappointed in this decision but that his hands are tied and ultimately he works for the organization, and that he loves Aui_2000.
  3. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

Update: I'm still mad about this. I love Aui_2000 and I love Charlie Yang and I'm very upset with ppd.
  4. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

Charlie is my hero, and I bet Artour did look like a big dumb banana.
  5. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

The rationale here is that since rosters are frozen for the fall majors, they need to cut Aui_2000 ASAP so he can find another team and be eligible for that tournament I guess. It still sucks. It's still terrible. In real sports there's a break period between championships and when the preseason starts back up so you can at least enjoy your win. This year-round schedule prevents that from happening, so a dude can win TI and 6 days later be kicked from his team.
  6. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

The only situation I can think of is that they think by switching Fear's position it'll prolong his career, and are pushing Aui to do so, and are bringing RTZ in to cover Fear's now vacant position.
  7. Ewokskick & I had a conversation about this, and it was pure speculation, but one thing I noticed was that something like a console seems to be a far more likely large purchase that a poorer family would make over a PC. Because Black households in the US are on the whole poorer than white households, I was wondering if this was part of it. Pure access to fighting games on a home console must contribute right? At least I know that the kids I went to school with were far more likely to talk about their xboxes or playstations than their computers.
  8. Books, books, books...

Marlon James is amazing, and is exactly as cool as you think he might be. He's an English professor at my alma mater.
  9. Idle Food - Cooking!

As a person who doesn't like tomatoes very much, but I very much like tomato sauces, it's in part a texture thing. The chunks of cooked tomato have a very distinct texture. I'm also pretty sensitive to food textures, and they can be hard for me to eat.
  10. Windows 10 impressions: I like the cooperation between my laptop, my desktop and my Windows phone. I like that my music libraries sync over OneDrive. I like that I can access that music via Groove, as well as music.microsoft.com through the browser even on my work computer without having to download my music library. I'm hoping someone creates a last.fm scrobbler for the groove desktop app. I like Edge as a browser quite a bit. I like the way it looks. I hope it gets extension functionality soon for the sake of my password manager. I installed it on my small laptop (purchased in 2012) as well as my desktop computer (brand new.) I'm into it.
  11. I fell behind on this show, and we watched this episode last night. Because this show is oftentimes well written, even if over written, but the last line of this episode was so silly. It was Taylor Kitsch's line as he's going through the papers and says "these contracts are full of signatures!" 1. that car is dark, how do you even read anything? 2. they're contracts. of course people have signed them. He just seemed so shocked, and it just made me laugh as they drive off with the moon in the background.
  12. So during the all star match the night before the finals, the players in the arena couldn't hear the questions that were being asked. So Kaci, the woman doing the interviews, would ask a question about if they were excited etc and the players would ask her repeatedly to ask the question again. It's very possible that they just straight up couldn't hear her over a very loud Key Arena. Also of the teams to win, this particular team is very un-ostentatious. Fear, the guy they joked about buying a new million dollar desk, legitimately did buy a computer desk with his earnings previously. He also bought a Benz, and that is the most high profile purchase anyone on this team has made with the hundreds of thousands of dollars they've each won. A player like PPD still drives like a 1999 Chevy Blazer with a huge dent in the side, and lives in a 2 bedroom rental house that he shares with 2 roommates in Fort Wayne Indiana. He's said that he hasn't touched like any of his winnings, and seems to be living primarily off his salary from the team. Aui_2000 still lives with his parents. These are not guys who are particularly into being flashy. Also in Dota as a whole, interviews are often times extended 20-30 minute things where players can actually talk about themselves and aren't pressured into providing sound bites. They don't have a lot of practice doing the "well we really played together as a team, and blah blah blah" standard sports responses. Also, the atmosphere of the victory was totally undercut by a super anti-climactic Deadmau5 set. It was bizarre, they did virtually no post game analysis, or replays of important plays.
  13. Hey Badfinger, It's so cool that you shared that, if you liked that, you might like this:
  14. I Had A Random Thought...

In the US, we don't call people lining up at a counter or anything like that a "queue." We exclusively call them lines. The only time I ever see "queue" used is in a computer science context or like when WoW servers were full you would get put in a queue and it would explicitly tell you your position in line waiting.
  15. Contradiction - The best of hammy actors

I keep thinking about what a grumpy-gus James was and laughing to myself.
  16. If you liked theorizing why ppd did what he did: here he explicitly talks about what he was thinking. I love these draft analyses.
  17. Sports

please eat 6 million juicy lucys for me. i miss them so much
  18. Contradiction - The best of hammy actors

I think between the two of us, we always knew where we needed to go except for that time we got stuck which I mentioned above. It mostly gave you a rundown of everything you just did, and highlighted some stuff that if you were stuck might push you to connect things you didn't see a connection between before.
  19. Contradiction - The best of hammy actors

Dear, I don't think we actually had to call the chief, I think that was their more explicit hint system.
  20. Contradiction - The best of hammy actors

So I read Justin McElroy's polygon review of it, and the little of a lets play to see the end of it, and here are the biggest things: Mouse support - in Justin's review there's mention that there was no mouse support, this is no longer true. We played the game entirely through mouse use Statement selection - you no longer horizontally scroll through topics, instead it is a vertical, and you can just click on statements to "nominate" them to be part of a contradiction, there's not a "use" button.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

Basically it's a speech pattern where you go kind of croaky at the end of your sentences. It's a criticism thrown at women a lot, especially on places like NPR where the audience is older and thinks that it makes women sound "unprofessional" http://mentalfloss.com/article/61552/what-vocal-fry
  22. Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics

http://www.polygon.com/2015/8/11/9130779/superdata-hearthstone-pulls-in-20-million-a-month-as-it-disrupts-the I mean I guess the US treasury should just give Blizzard its own money printing machine right?
  23. Loved the talk with Sean! One thing that was really interesting that I was told was that, Shiki CDEC's player has only played Leshrac a handful of times ever (http://www.dotabuff.com/players/101375717/matches?date=&hero=leshrac&skill_bracket=&lobby_type=&game_mode=&region=&faction=&duration=&timezone=Etc%2FUTC) Since he had no experience with the lord, he didn't even play it the first time CDEC played it.
  24. The International 5 (TI5) - Dota 2

I think it's important to put it in context as occurring within a community that is particularly toxic to women though. Like I don't care what Tobi jerks it to, but by actively commenting on cosplayers as a visible professional member of the Dota/esports community, what message is he sending? Is he saying that it's okay to make lewd comments about women you see dressed up at tournaments? Is that really behavior that should be encouraged? I think as a culture we're both too comfortable with objectifying women and too conservative when speaking about consensual sexual activities. When you expose semi-anonymous cosplaying women to your 135 thousand twitter followers, is that really fair?
