Interesting talk on puzzle design. Also have been loving this series of reviews on the 3d Mario games that's been making the rounds. Really insightful stuff and a must watch for any platformer lovers/designers Also, looks like the GDC Vault is offering much more free talks for this year, and sooner, than in previous years. http://www.gdcvault.com/free/gdc-15

Wow, this tool is really nice!! -
There's a great collection of Weird short stories edited by Ann & Jeff Vandermeer. It's just called The Weird and I have found it a great thing to have on e-reader and phone. It covers a broad range of stuff that fits into the genre, across many decades and styles. The last one I read from that was Algernon Blackwood's "The Willows" which was super-excellent. Amazon linky

Trello is my pick for task management, really helps with the not forgetting anything on a project long term. I'd probably use Pivotal Tracker if I was on a larger project/team but Trello scales really well from personal use to small groups But day to day I can forget to use it so a combination of txt files and pen&paper lists help me keep focus and priority while working. Rescue Time is indeed very cool and is extremely interesting, if not potentially life-changing. Google Docs & Sheets for any big hairy project design & documentation. Keep is good for not forgetting random stuff when away from desk but I 'keep' forgetting to flush it regularly

Project Eternity, Obsidian's Isometric Fantasy RPG

I am also a blue chanter lady. Seems like a popular choice but it's too bad that Kana has the exact same chants that I chose :/ Really wish I went monk now Adding a second created-character in the Gilded Vale inn was an extremely good idea just to have another damage sponge- 214 replies

Yep, in response to this: http://www.nodontdie.com/anonymous/ Woof. -
Wii Sports Resort is a good example of nonviolent action game in places. Parts of Saints Row 4 COULD be nonviolent. Someone should make a target-shooting 3d platformer or something (someone may have started this project in UE4 and has failed to return to it)

This joke has probably been done but... HEY EVERYTHING IS 3D WHY ISNT IT CALLED VOXELS

For me I've always seen 'performative' as a completely neutral turn that can go either way depending on context. Doesn't carry an automatic negative connotation

I second the recommendation for GIMP. A little funky to set up for pixel art but no more complicated than, say Photoshop. (also Paint can work fine for this too, it's just a matter of getting your zoom, grid, and brushes set up)

Wizard Jam - Idle Thumbs Game Jam Interest Gauge / Chit Chat corner

I am super down for this. Can help with Unity/C# stuff. Also it'd be neat to team up with artist folks if there's anyone who wants to do that. Something something dishonored wizards? -
PBS Game Show (aka Jamin from Kill Screen) weighed in on this recently Some interesting thoughts. Pinball is violent!

Me too. It's a cool game. -
Aw man, I just saw this! Because GDC is incredibly hectic and disorienting and yeah, I found that I actually know a lot more people here than I realized!! If you're still in town tomorrow I'd love to grab a drink and chat. Hit me up on twitter @taylormorris (my email response rate is pretty much 0 this week) This is a super good explanation. Also describing stuff as "crazy," even if it's positive, is starting to bug me and I don't think that makes me... foolish?

A pass where you can attend panels is over $1k

Going solo at GDC this year and I'm kind of feeling weird. I have a job starting next week so I don't really have anything to promote and nobody from my hometown area to hang out with. I've got a small handful of friends in the general games community but I'm guessing it'll be a long awkward week and I'm already planning to spend a good amount of time in the park just scribbling design notes for future side projects. Anyone else in this GDC boat? I'm down for a mini-meetup anytime and will definitely be at Lost Levels (and Wild Rumpus) tomorrow

This is something I think about a lot too, because it would be pretty cool if there were more games out there without violence. I believe it's a huge turn-off for a lot of people who otherwise might get into games. Unfortunately, my design wheelhouse seems to be in action/arcade games which are maybe the most prone to combat/violence... And any abstraction of combat just seems to be just a bit silly. Flower is a great example, maybe classic arcade stuff like Tapper too. Sorting and tidying up seem like good themes (Chibi Robo anyone?) Anyone else have good examples of action/arcade stuff?

I've been loving 80 Days on the Android but it just makes me wish that more iOS stuff like A Dark Room would find its way over

Biggest selling point for Source 2 is eventual Half-Life 3 mod support (shut up i am dreaming)

TIGSource is probably best if only in that the most visible is probably best. I would guess it's the most popular place overall. But there are also nicer places like Makega.me and as mentioned, Glorious Trainwrecks. Also dual-posting to Tumblr and maybe Reddit is a good idea, especially if you have lots of GIFs (you should have lots of GIFs)

Well alrighty then. I will finish up Jojo Does Egypt and then that is definitely next

Nnnnnice! That's a cool thing to do. There is also a great 24-minute short on Stephen Kim, another of the people charged under the Espionage Act. Produced by Laura Poitras, director of Citizenfour https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/02/18/the-surrender/

Mushishi is the best thing to watch right before bed. Cool, dreamy storytelling there. Need to check out that new series from last year, is it good?

Looks super good. Can't wait to check the game out on Friday. Will have to remember to make all different dialogue choices!
