  1. Oh god, now I'm just looking at Father Ted clips on youtube. I'm supposed to be working dammit.
  2. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

Yes definitely play Zeno Clash instead of Zeno Clash 2. I can't exactly put a finger on why, but the sequel just felt soulless.
  3. Guess you Steam top 10 most played

I played through it twice, plus did all the sidequests and spent some time with the Chain & Gain challenge mode. I have a complicated relationship with the series. Thief 2 is one of my all-time faves. Thief 3 was a huge disappointment. By the time Thi4f rolled around, from a different team and with myriad changes in the gameplay from classic Thief, my expectations were not high. Still, I played it and... well, ended up having a real good time! It's certainly not perfect. The narrative is a mess and the level design is really only good in the middle portion of the game. But I enjoyed the gameplay a lot. A solid 7/10 stealthgame!
  4. Guess you Steam top 10 most played

I checked it not too long ago, so I'm mostly doing it from memory: 1. Bioshock Infinite (explanation for this travesty further down) 2. Frozen Synapse 3. Dark Souls 4. FTL 5. Dark Souls 2 6. Invisible Inc. 7. Valkyria Chronicles 8. Spintires 9. Euro Truck Simulator 2 10. Thief (yes, the new one. no really) For the record, my one playthrough of Bioshock Infinite was more like 12 hours long. The 180 hour status is some kinda smear attack by Steam upon my gamer credit! And FTL and Valkyria Chronicles were #11 and #12 on my actual list, but I was wayyyy off on ETS2(38h) and Invisible Inc(24h). XCOM, DXHR, FC3 and Dead Island tho? Oh yeah, I remember those. They were fun!
  5. RELEASE DATE: October 14th Platforms: Windows (Oculus Rift, SteamVR, no VR) Price: nothing!
  6. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

Yeah I think I stopped playing shortly after the tentacle-choked tower. I remember a roof-top section being more of a hassle than it was worth, and that was that. I agree with your overall views on the game. Lots of fun details early on, and a good bit of variety. If only it had less gross bits and the shooting was actually fun it could've been great! Maybe if they'd had another 15 years to work on it they could've pulled it off, eh?
  7. Yes, it's wonderful. And it's what finally got me to subscribe to Humble Monthly. Well, this and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
  8. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

AWW HELL YEAH now we're getting to the good stuff.

Freeways, by Desert Golfing-dev Justin Smith. I picked up the iPad version when it came out earlier this week and blazed through it in a few days. It's all about designing intersections. Your score is calculated by measuring average car speed divided by concrete used. Perhaps the most addictive game I've played this year, it's got a real "just one more intersection!" quality to it. It's a mere 3 bucks and available for Windows or Android/iOS tablets. Highly recommended! https://captaingames.itch.io/freeways
  10. New Beta version! In Search of Paradise VR v0.5 (101MB) Oculus version SteamVR version NOTE about SteamVR version: It, uh, doesn't work very well. At least on my end, running on an Oculus Rift, it can take over a minute of starring at a blue skybox before the game's visuals show up. Same thing happens when you recenter the view. I would love for some Vive users to try this and see how it works. I'm hoping it's just an issue with Rifts. If any Unity/SteamVR devs out there know how to improve this, let me know. I've worked on it for hours now but I'm not getting anywhere. Changelog: -RADIO STATIONS! -improvements to environment. It has a helluva lot more rocks now! -pedal and gearstick animations. -darker nights. All feedback appreciated!

Yeah I think that's an important qualifier. I haven't steered clear of Ubisoft(or WB's) open-world actiongames, so HZD is feeling very "been there, done that". Started playing it in June but haven't bothered finishing it. Actually I stalled on Hollow Knight as well. Was a lot of fun for the first 15 hours, but I've since run out of steam. Gotta get back to it eventually, because when I was into it it did feel like a GOTY-contender. So, what have I actually finished? Human: Fall Flat! I was expecting a kinda wonky physics-platformer, but it's actually a very polished experience, with a lot of clever obstacles and puzzles and every level has a different theme. Mostly it reminds me of Grow Home and Tiny & Big. It's good!
  12. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

Word on the street (internet) is that Sniper Elite are the good sniping games and Sniper Ghost Warrior are the bad sniping games. I've never played the Ghost Warrior ones tho, but I did like SE2 and 3, haven't gotten around to 4 yet.
  13. Remedy's 'Quantum Break'

Well that sucks. I've had QB installed since the summer sale now, but haven't gotten around to booting it up yet. That shot is an early example of a pre-release "bullshot". I remember PC Gamer UK marveling that you could actually read the text on the side of the pistol. Pretty sure neither the gun nor Max's face textures were quite that high-res in the final release.
  14. [Dev Log] Helicopter Collaboration

Looking good! Also holy shit you're working with the Absolute Drift dev? I loved that game!
  15. The Big FPS Playthrough MISSION COMPLETE

I liked Bioshock 2 a lot. Gameplaywise it was better than either BS1 or BS3. Never got around to Minerva's Den tho, despite hearing great things. :/
  16. The Big VR Thread

Yeah that's a great trailer. It does look like the actual gameplay will be a Five Nights At Freddy-esque jump-scare-fest tho, and I'm really not into that kind of thing. Speaking of jump scares I just finished Edge of Nowhere and it has plenty of them. Besides the jump scares tho, it's a very enjoyable 3rd person action adventure with a Lovecraftian story. The gameplay is reminiscent of Uncharted/Tomb Raider with plenty of climbing, sneaking, shooting, and set-pieces.
  17. Top Films Lists

Hah, same, although I still like pretty much everything on that list. Only movie I haven't seen on it is Whiplash, but it's been on my "to watch" list for a while now. Here's a good list I saw recently, Edgar Wright sharing "10 amazing movies you've probably never seen!" He's right, I've never even heard of any of these.
  18. I also binged on The Defenders over the weekend, and I thought it was great! Possibly my fave out of the Netflix Marvel shows. I liked all the banter and the dynamic between the leads, and the fight scenes were overall quite good. Only gripes is the in the last couple episodes there was a tad too much As for my feelings about the other shows: Liked both Daredevil seasons. Luke Cage was ok. Tried, but couldn't get into Jessica Jones. Didn't even bother with Iron Fist.
  19. Mordheim - XCOM meets Flail

I tried this as well for a little bit, but it didn't click with me.
  20. There's a couple minutes of silence in the episode after 14:00.

Just finished POLLEN (~4 hours long). Playable in VR or regular monitor-o-vision. It's a sci-fi adventure where you're a technician sent to a remote spacebase but when you get there all kindsa weird shit has happened and you have to figure out what. There's audiologs, puzzles, mystery, all the usual stuff. One thing this game does very well, is object interaction, and setting up logical systems for how it's world works. Sometimes these objects and systems are used for puzzles, but very often they're simply there to make the world feel more real. In the below video I discover that a panel in the control room actually controls the locks on every door in the base. Game progress does not rely on using this panel to open any of the doors, but it was still fun to see that this system existed within the gameworld. Later on, down in the cargo bay there's plenty of tools you can pick up and use. Totally not necessary in any way, but the fact that when you hit the use button while holding a flashlight it actually flicks on and off is a small thrill. Being able to pick up and interact with non-essential objects is of course something that's been around for a long time, but this stuff feels especially nice in VR. So how's the game beyond just tinkering with random objects? It's ok! The touch-control implementation is a bit janky, but useable. Storywise, it gets off to kind of a hectic and messy start where it's difficult to take it all in, but once it slows down and starts letting you uncover the mystery at your own pace it's good. The ending was pretty great too.

  23. TRAPLANDS: test my action puzzler thing!

Yup, those levels do a good job of teaching the mechanics, and were enjoyable to play.
  24. Whatever z_bill's working on [Devlog]

Oh no I got the bad ending, I think! I killed the captive and then the cowboy and got gunned down. I liked it tho!
  25. The Big VR Thread

Oh cool, thanks for the feedback! I'm kinda surprised it worked at all. Did the in-car view work as well? It didn't put the camera on top of the car or anything? And when you run it does it start up the SteamVR pop-up thingy? Not sure what might be causing nausea with the chase-cam. I'm quite prone to VR-sickness myself but I haven't felt it with this.
