  1. Crashday

I don't know. It looks like the game lacks art direction to me...
  2. Pretty scary stuff

Wow! This ring any bells, kingz?
  3. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - latest screenshots

I see a "most light bloom" nomination coming...

The hardware developement processes have limits. They can't continue improving with the same rate forever. I don't have the theoretical limits in numbers right now, the 10-20 GHz was just a wild guess. But this quest for photo-realism that is driving the games' demands on hardware will have to slow down a lot some time. And if you compare the graphics of now with what we had with 100-200MHz, you could think that 10-20 Ghz (10GB of memory, 2.5GB graphics memory) would allow for "photorealistic enough". Or maybe not. (not that I personally care about photorealism that much)
  6. Take me on the last express

I've had thoughts about replaying this for a couple of years already, but haven't managed to start for some reason. So many new games I haven't played/finished ... Same thing with Grim Fandango. I have the original box too, with a strategy guide and interview.

I haven't read the article (yet), but I think it would be great if software made more advances instead of constant hardware upgrades. Maybe we'll the trend will change towards that when the common processor speeds are about 10-20GHz, and likewise with the 3D graphics cards. In any case, standards and reusability in software is becoming more and more important as software (and hardware) gets more complex. I have great hopes that the open source community will develop more and more well-designed reusable components that could be used even in any commercial game. For example S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is already using OpenDE (Open Dynamics Engine I think) -- an open source physics engine. If I'm not mistaken. When the 3D, physics, sound etc. engines reach a certain maturity, the focus will turn on level editors and the like. Eventually, and I dare say not more than 3-5 years from now, there will be free open source engine(s) with the same easiness of editing as the Unreal engine games, and with the same level of graphics possible as in commercial games of the same time.

  9. Haven't tried this yet, but Yay! And so much for it not being a sound system issue (I think one of the developers said that).
  10. HL2: Stuttering fixed (supposedly)

Not with windows's own defragger. I think I also moved these files to another drive, then defragged and moved them back.
  11. HL2: Stuttering fixed (supposedly)

Umm... didn't I post in another thread, telling that even getting that file defragged didn't help.
  12. Outlook vs Thunderbird

Heh... I didn't notice the "Run junk mail controls" item in the menu before Turns out sometimes it decided to run that by itself, but it was pretty seldom.
  13. White Christmas in fucking GALVESTON

Wow. You have more snow than we do here @ 59 N latitude
  14. To all my friends at the Thumb....

    Merry Christmas!
  15. HL2: Stuttering fixed (supposedly)

In my case defrag didn't help. But in my case it's also probably because I was running it with higher detail settings than I should.
  16. HL2: Stuttering fixed (supposedly)

This problem happens on high-end computers too. And can you name another game where the SOUND skips and stutters when the frame rate get slow.
  17. I don't remember IDKFA. But I don't think I used cheats much. Sometimes I wish I could turn back time to about when GTA1 was released. Those were some great times. I was kind of involved in the modding scene too. I was going to create a new programming language to make mission scrips easier to write... The fromat they were in was worse than BASIC. But I never got near completing it.

  19. Gamespot's Best/Worst of 2004

I never really played all those other tactical turn-based games. Only the first couple of levels of Fallout: Tactics I think.
  20. Gamespot's Best/Worst of 2004

The video comments that they have about the winners are a pretty good idea. Although every time you want to watch one you have to sit through a motor oil ad. Worst game: Big Rig Racing... man you got to see that video! Most Baditude: Warrior Within Most Bloom: Fable... the video is pretty funny. Glowing chickeens... Best game noone played: Silent Storm... you know I had completely forgotten this one. I played the demo and it really did seem great, except it was fucking too hard for me. Or too slow-paced. Or maybe I just suck.
  21. I'm going to install Windows XP

    What was wrong then?
  22. Gamespot's Best/Worst of 2004

Katamary Damashii only got "Most Innovative Game" of Special Achievements... On a related note, I that song from the flash thing has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it. I hope I'll get to play the game someday, too.
  23. Massiv Multiplayer Pirates

Did you know there's a Massive Multiplayer Pirates game? I just found it when doing a search related to Sid Meier's Pirates! Seems to be in beta testing phase, and from the FAQ I read that it will be free for a certain period even after the beta, but at some point there's going to be a monthly fee. http://worldofpirates.4players.de/wop/
  24. Massiv Multiplayer Pirates

I tried it. The sound effects are a little off, it's annoying. Haven't played a lot yet, but I haven't liked it much so far.
