The update didn't really solve the stuttering for me. In some places it seems to have increased, and decreased in others. But I discovered that some of the large Source files are the most fragmented files on my hard drive (probably because of how they were loaded over a long time period -- probably Steam didn't allocate the whole size of the file in the beginning). I bet that's a big part of the problem. Gonna do a defrag now...

This thread is better than the "Is your mother dead" thread.

Well, my smilies about Black Isle translated = made some really great games, made some average games (IMO), was shot in the head

This was also in that news update Yay!

That somehow fitted my winamp playlist perfectly.

"The changes in this release are directed at reducing the problem some users are experiencing with sound stuttering. The sound stuttering is not indicative of a sound problem, sound stuttering is only a symptom of texture thrashing on your video card or AGP memory. For information on how to reduce texture thrashing visit this link on our support site:" how do I know it got updated? I ran steam, but the focus was away from it for a while so I didn't see any messages informing me that it was updated. and when I check "update news" for HL2, it just displays the old message "pre-loading started".

I rarely watch TV these days. Besides news & movies, I occasionally watch Firends, Sopranos, Monk and that show about the undertakers. Umm... about once a month if even that. But there's this British show I like that I haven't really watched often, but I've liked every episode. It's called "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" and it's about British construction workers. The characters are all kind of old school and at first I thought this was a show from the late seventies. (Usually I can tell at least the decade immediately just by the colors or some visual details) The last time I saw it was this summer and they were in Spain, working illegally and being confused with some bank robbers. Anyway, today I saw another episode and now they were in Cuba. Still thought this was from the early '80s or so, but then I noticed quite modern cell-phones... looked at IMDB and it says 1983-2004. Surprise... Anyone else watch this show?

I couldn't help, he was controlling me. I think it's some sort of reversed voodoo.

Reviving old shows or placing them in exotic locations? Yes both happen here all the time too, but not at the same time so far.

For me it crashed once, after I repeatedly died defending a plaza from the Combine soldiers.

Deja vù. edit: haha... I put the accent in the entirely wrong place.

I tried a few rounds and it reminded me how much I grew to hate this game. It would be more fun if getting an acceptable start was easier. My attempts on a high score seem to have a probability of success of about 4%. I managed to get over 8000, but it took me about 50 tries if not more. In most cases I can't even get above 300 so I cancel immediately.
-
Once you are above 300, try to keep the vertical speed (lower left corner) as stable as possible (= close to zero and moving slowly). Also I think there's an optimal height you should try to get to when you start. More than 300, maybe 600 or 700.

I don't remember where Follow Freeman began exactly, but yeah, I agree (I think I mentioned this in the other thread). I loved parts of the city17 levels, and didn't like other parts so much, but the squad members were always a weak part in them. In the E3 demo they seemed pretty awesome, but I guess that was scripted.

Umm... didn't feel like making a new thread...

Although I do pirate some games, I think this is a good thing. I would most likely have bought Half-Life 2 anyway, but because I assumed pirating HL2 would be more complicated, it made my decision even easier. The only problem I see with this is if the person who tried this warez version would not be able to play another game he has legally purchased any more. Is that the case?

I hate the game industry. So many games coming out I want to play but have no time/money blablabla.
