What about the Matrix? A lot of people thought it was deeply philosophical, and that it was fuckin' awesome. I thought it was an interesting and cool movie, but not the best movie ever made. Then I took Philosophy and learned about Decartes and though "oh, so this is where it comes from. Bah, anyone without the Hollywood mentality could have done that!" I know Kung Fu. Whoa.

Is that a camera? Well, anyway, those looks like prototypes, but it does give a better idea about size and scale. We'll just have to see what it really looks like on thursday. I wonder who's leaking these pictures?!

The Hitchhikers Movie and an attempt as splolerlessness
netmonkey replied to Bc9b's topic in Movies & Television
I didn't see how anyone who knows about THGTTG would even understand what's going on in the movie. It seems that things were kind of rushed, like trying to hard to move the movie forward without explaining some of it very well. I thought the intro with the dolphins was unecessary, they could have gotten the same point accross when the guide flies in space and it says the title of the movie. It feels like they just added the dolphin intro because someone said that they must have credits in the beginning of the movie. I dunno, when I read the book(s) I thought everything was supposed to be kind of absurd (for our earthling point of view) and with the attitude that space just is, like everything that's happening is just plain normal (a bit like the original star wars), but from the movie tone space is either goofy (that is, everything was purposely made a gag) and it's also the most amazing thing ever... wow, space. wow. -
I hate this thread because hating this thread is the new trendy thing to do. I watched Donnie Darko when it was still an obscure movie, and I liked it, but I didn't think it was like ultra deep and shit like that. It had too much "I'm drew Barrymore. I'm deep, guys!" in it. And she's kind of like Madonna and the Kabala + British Accent. The same kind of intelligence that people who go to coffee shops have and talk about Donnie Darko and other cult books/movies/etc and think that the coffee makes them intelligent.

What if this very thread is in fact the best thread ever?

I really dug that Peter Molyneux stuff... I find particulary interesting how the interface for the movies is the game itself. He's a very abstract designer, though.. as the game doesn't have a realistic feel as you pick up the characters and drop them where they need to go... very god like (duh!). Black&White 2 looked interesting, but I wasn't very impressed. It feels too chaotic. The Room demo was very interesting... it looked so damn good.

That is why there need to be a universal price lowering. All games cost less. People would just buy more and more if they do, like dvd collectors. But at $49.99 and above, who the hell is going to collect games?! I think if either Microsoft or Sony (who are both total greedy bastards in their own ways) would have the guts to competitive lower the game prices, then the other would have to follow. Or nintendo. Or, if you live in South America, you can mod your $500 xbox and buy burned games on the street for $1. But how much money do games developers make from those inflated prices?

About Sasha: As for clairvoyance: -
Vertigo is pretty cool... I like the soundtrack for this movie, which you can actually listen online: http://www.motorcyclediariesmovie.com/ - The Motorcycle Diaries... You know, the Oscar for best song and all?

And next day! Wuxtry! Joker Chris Remo pulls boner of the year!

Rodriguez is so comic-booky... I think he made Sin City a great movie... Anway, I think they should use the Elijah Wood from Back to the Future Part II! After all, he is credited as "Video Game Boy #1". I'm glad that Elijah Wood is looking for all kinds of roles these days, and not being typecasted as a Hobbit. Unlike Legolas Orlando Bloom who always plays warrior archer in epic movie now days.

Here's my story of the day: I went out to the bank and the post office to do some of the usual things one would do there, and then I decided that I would go around and see if I could find the fabled Beyond Good & Evil (which I must buy!) in any of the stores in town. At the same time, I was going to see if Psychonauts was even available in any of the stores. Here's what happened: First, I went to Hastings, which is this movie rental/sale, video game rental/sale, music books, coffee, junk and magazine sales superstore around here and they had no copies of Beyond Good & Evil on XBOX. Apparently, there was one for GameCube. No sign of Psychonauts. Next, I went to EB Games, and once again I couldn't find Beyond Good & Evil nor Psychonauts. As I was looking in the bargain/used games bin, the manager had left a copy of the latest corporate memo, where it said how the "hot picks of the month" were all LucasArts Star Wars games (and Mercenaries). It described how to set up the games and all on the shelf, and then I look to my left and I see it. All Star Wars, all crap. I guess it has to do with the movie hoping that when people see it, they're so disapointed they wish there was a better Star Wars thing available to wash off the disapointment? Who knows. I went to GameSpot, which was not too far away from EB. No Beyond Good & Evil, again, and no sign of Psychonauts. Around this time I wonder "WTF is Majesco doing?!" so I go to the front and ask if they have any of the games. Nope, they only had TWO copies of Psychonauts, which "sold out"; I'm guessing one for the shelves and one for the "huge" in-stock supply. I noticed that the staff were all women, unlike EB games where it was all guys. I thought that was interesting. I noticed that Donkey Kong jungle beat was the hot thing for Nintendo, and the box had Donkey Kong looking all bad ass and shit. I went to Circuit City and there was no sign of Beyond Good & Evil or Psychonauts. They did have copies of Jade Empire, though! Okay, maybe Best Buy has something! Nope, nothing at all. Lots of crappy games, though! Like some sort of redneck game that nobody wanted, so you could buy it for $10. Finally, I saw the Wal-Mart Supercenter, which is pretty big here, and I went in and took a look around, and maybe buy some food in the process. No Beyond Good & Evil, but they did have Psychonauts. And I looked and they had at least 10 copies of the game. I look up, and a promotional video is playing for it, what a coincidence. I go look at the PC section, and they have the game on PC, too! So I think "oh, so that's where Majesco put the game..." And then I went home. These stores are really close to each other in this small city, so it wasn't a big deal going inside and checking out what they had. It had been a while since I've gone to these gaming stores to see what they got, and I always get the following feelings when I go: The trip to EB Games and GameStop left me feeling like I was this skeezy(sp?) guy going to a sex shop to buy porn movies. And the stores smelled kind of funky, too. Those things you can try games out are extremely unconfortable. It's like going to barnes and noble and not having a place to sit down and read the books! Oh, and you can only read the books by looking up until your neck hurts like crap.

Oooh! When did we get Sasha Nein?!

NOBODY CAN TAKE AWAY MY LEC ADVENTURE BOXES!!!!1 They're mine... ALL MINE.

Well, you gotta think about two important things: 1) Day of the Tentacle was released 7 years after Maniac Mansion 2) Maniac Mansion was the first of its kind, but that formula was not concrete until The Secret of Monkey Island was made. And that's how I like my sequels... completely different from each other. Otherwise, it's just the same game but you can hold 2 guns...
-
Yeah, he said "Well, gotta go make some Humongous games. BTW! There needs to be a sequel to Maniac Mansion." ... and they lived happily ever after?
-
Also, how come the "hero" must have an (sometimes) awesome pose and the title on top? not that Psychonauts is any different, but at least it has a box art instead of a cg render of the hero very cheesily and junk. But it's not as bad as dvd movie covers.. my (least) favorite is the formula where two or three main characters are put in the cover of the box in an order, but the names of the actors in the opposite orders. ie, say that Adam Sandler is on the right side, then his name MUST be on the left side.

Oh, I got a team working on that I'll get you guys the link sometime when it's up.

The thing about having an el cheapo Nokia phone is that it breaks easily... like mine. It was free, though. Can't complain!

Jeez, Remo, don't you know exaggeration? They credit Tim a lot for Monkey Island, (they always say "Monkey Island, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango") which he deserves some of it, I guess, but Ron invented that world! And when they refer to Monkey Island, they show screenshots of Escape... ... and once on techtv he was credited for making Curse of Monkey Island, or at least it was made so it sounded like he did. I wouldn't be suprised if this icons shows screws it up again. They reviewed moment of silence recently (which apparently blows) and once again someone said something like "adventure games have died since their daddy left." and by their daddy they meant Tim.
-
What I hate about G4 and Techtv from the little I've seen (I really never had those channels) is that they treat Tim Schafer as the creator and destroyer of all adventure games, and the creator of every LucasArts game. Also, he's "creative". The word "creative" is used by dumb bastards who don't understand anything beyond the normal.

They're supposed to work?! I thought it was for decoration. Also, I neglect the Idle Banter a lot, so I just found this post. My real name is Edmundo but perhaps some you may have known that by now. I was born and raised in Venezuela but then I moved to the United States in 1997. Remember that wonderful year? Everyone was getting the Internet, and there was a sequel to Monkey Island coming out. I was pretty excited about both things, and since I noticed everyone on the web had nicknames I made a silly combination. I still use the name for legacy, just so that people recognize me that I'm the netmonkey from #monkey-island. I'm graduating this year with a Computer Science degree, and I like a lot of things that display pretty pictures, but most of all I like making games. Currently, I like making point+click games on the pc because I think the mouse is the nicest way to express 2D graphics. I want to make games but apparently you need to graduate with 5 years of experience in 3d programming to do it. Bulllsheeeit. I discovered the thumbs through Mixnmojo and since I really didn't care much about LucasArts after I learned that what I liked from them was what the former employees did and not their brand name, I started reading the site. And now I post on the forums like mad.
