I've been psyched for this show ever since it was announced, yet strangely, after four episodes...I hate it. It feels like Sorkin, over-confident after his success with The West Wing, over-indulged himself too much. I loved Sports Night, and I enjoyed most of The West Wing, but Studio 60 seems neither as funny as Sports Night nor as dramatic as The West Wing. Also, a sketch comedy setting is a bad place to include the moralizing monologues that Sorkin does so well because...it's sketch comedy! Who looks to SNL for moral guidance? EDIT: After re-reading this, I realize I sound like quite the Debbie Downer, which was not my intention. Studio 60 isn't terrible, but it is disappointing.

Yep, that's the Zelda formula. Lots of dungeons for those who like linearity and lots of random things to open in the overworld for those who don't. I would agree with the above sentiments that A Link to the Past is probably the best one. However, that's the cue for large hordes of screaming fanboys to attack this thread with "Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made!!!!!!"

Final Fantasy games are crap. There, I said it. I hate to admit it...but I honestly just can't stand them. I've tried 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9 and I never finished any of them. Out of all them, 1 annoyed me the least. (Since it at least had no pretensions about what it was.) I suppose it's possible that I could be proven wrong. I was kinda stoked for 12 for awhile, but then I remembered that it was a Final Fantasy game (and heard about the lead designer leaving Square mid-development), and I lost it. I was also excited for 3, but then, once again, I remembered that I kinda hate the series. For that matter, I can't think of a single Square-Enix game I didn't hate.

It's definitely mini-games. This has been known for awhile. http://wii.ign.com/articles/728/728359p1.html

Maybe that's cause Metroid isn't really an FPS? True, you do shoot things in the first person, but the core Metroid gameplay has always been exploring, backtracking, finding the new weapon that allows the old door from room #1 to finally be opened, etc. Think of it as a giant Zelda-dungeon with a gun instead of a sword. (Since that's where the gameplay stems from.) I mean, you can "lock on" to targets if you don't feel like aiming. Shooting, at least in the previous games, isn't the focus of everything the way it is in most "shooters."

US lauching first is not new...Nintendo did the same thing for the original DS.

I've only played Fallout 2, but I absolutely loved it. It's definitely one of my favorite RPGs.

P.N. 03 was pretty fun, despite its somewhat shoddy production values and constant re-use of environments.

HOT! All that is needed now is for there to be a LEGO Doctor Who game, any my collection of LEGO + Nerd Topic related video games will be complete.

The thing is, when you're trying to get a game ready for launch, you don't necessarily have time to invent the most innovative control scheme ever. So, I think Vicarious Visions took the right approach - nail down gesture input so that you can accept multiple movements with a high degree of accuracy, and also use motion control where it makes sense - like for the camera or context-based movements. The goal for these first batch of games is simply going to be making existing gameplay more immersive. (It's a cross-platform title, after all.) I don't think we'll see the really original stuff for another year or two. On the other hand, being original does not imply being a good game, and vice versa.

Hey, that's kind of ironic! Since Sierra On-Line was bought out by Vivendi Games back in the day and Tim Schafer (and presumably much of the rest of Double Fine) used to work on LucasArts adventure games... It's sort of like Tim Schafer has now found employment at Sierra, the adventure-game arch-rival of LucasArts! Wow! He's switched sides! Isn't that so incredibly amazingly ironic?!? Or it would be, if it were 1994...

Last week, I bought Children of the Nile for $2 at a yard sale. Probably the best value I ever got for $2, though the $8 microwave was a pretty good deal as well.

Dude, it's probably my favorite game of all time, I was in no way writing it off. He simply asked for game suggestions based on a somewhat small list of preferences, so I tried my best to extrapolate from there. I love Trauma Center and I love WarioWare more than any of the games he listed as positives so extremely simply logic suggests he'll hate WarioWare. Granted, this is a seriously oversimplified way of making predictions, but it's what I had to go on.

2 & 3. Minish Cap is great. It plays a bit like A Link to the Past, but changes up the formula enough to keep things fresh. Yes, A Link to the Past for GBA is the same as the SNES version, which is the game you're thinking of. The GBA version also has an added multi-player mode and some sound changes. 4. That will probably never happen. 5. GBA games look the same on the DS as on the GBA, except a bit brighter (since the screen is brighter). There's also a slight difference in resolution, so there's a small black bar on the top and bottom. Screenshots of handheld games usually look blurry because they are very tiny screens! 6. There aren't really any games like Trauma Center on the GBA. Maybe you dislike the fast-paced action, so stay away from WarioWare? Probably you just hate the difficulty, so stay away from...really hard games.

It wasn't just rumors. In E3 '03, Miyamoto gave interviews saying that a brand new peripheral was coming out for GameCube that would re-invent gaming. Three years later, the Wii is on its way - completely backwards compatible with the GameCube and also being almost identical hardware inside. (They upped the RAM and processor speed, but not much else has changed.) Its actually kind of amazing what Nintendo has done - take a failing system, add a new controller, re-brand it - VOILA! Instant internet hype!

I kinda hated Partners in Time. Mostly because Superstar Saga was SO GOOD and Partners in Time completely dropped all the humor and fun out. If you like this style of RPG, though, you might like Paper Mario for N64 and its follow-up on the GameCube. (Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door) It's a bit different, but also involves timed attacks and such. And Super Mario RPG for the SNES.

Christ, the game was hard, but not THAT hard.

Why BG&E failed - written by an UbiSoft PR employee
lobotomy42 replied to Marek's topic in Video Gaming
This might have applied during the N64 years, but not at all for the GCN's life. Nintendo made the Resident Evil-exclusive deal, and released Eternal Darkness within the first few months of the console's life, and a shooter-esque "Metroid Prime" shortly after. Killer7, P.N. 03, and Resident Evil 4 were all signed as exclusives BY NINTENDO as the system was launching. (Capcom later bailed on them, but that's besides the point.) All the while, games like BMX XXX, which Sony and MS censored, Nintendo allowed with no censorship whatsoever. Nintendo screwed the GCN up in many ways, but actually spent much of this generation trying to undo the 'kiddy' image from years past. Unfortunately, as evidenced by your post, it seems almost no one noticed. As for the BG&E as exclusive, or timed exclusive...Maybe. It worked for Tales of Symphonia and Viewtiful Joe. But you'd have to release in a month when Nintendo didn't have any big games coming out. But, since releasing in November 2003 was part of the problem anyway...why not just change the release date and keep it as multi-console title? For what it's worth, though, Ancel's latest - Rayman Raving Rabbids - is now a timed Wii exclusive, so maybe you're on to something. -
If you liked Killer7, it looks like you'll enjoy Heroes, too: http://www.thewiire.com/news/371/1/Heroes_First_Footage_and_Details

True. Perhaps I should have said "not a problem for me, since I've gotten used to it."
-
Well, I loved Killer7. And I didn't notice a problem with the voice acting, beyond the usual problems that come with American voice acting for Japanese games. (Over the top and silly.) But that's so standard now, it can hardly be called a problem.

I remember the first time this rumor made its way around the net, about a year after Grim Fandango came out. (People pointed to the 'Manny head' in Phantom Menace as evidence that LucasFilm would make it.)
