  1. Cities: Skylines

I think this is a game where you just sort of have to set yourself some goals outside of just profitable/stable city. I was thinking it'd be fun to see if the simulation supports minimizing car traffic, seeing too how big a degree you can do this and divert traffic to public transport instead.
  2. Ori and the Blind Forest

I just died. This is so good..
  3. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

They've explicitly stated they're not doing straight-up ports of existing games.
  4. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

I introduced my 3yo son to MineCraft!! The down-ward spiral to addiction begins now. Actually, it was really fun. First he just sat in my lap and watched as I built a little house on my iPad and put chickens all over the place. He was really interested in a pig, so I opened up a hole and trapped it inside our house. Then I realised Pocket Edition has local multiplayer over wi-fi, so I gave him the iPad. Obviously he can't really figure out the interface, but he learned how to not look up into the sky all the time, at least. Then I downloaded MC:PE to my iPhone, and logged onto the iPad's game and it was a lot of fun! I could actually see him build these little walls of stone in his immediate area (because he hadn't figured out how to walk around) and could walk up to him and he went "There's Daddy!" It was adorable and I can't wait to do this more with him some day until he decides Daddy's not as cool to play with as all of his cool friends and now he wants a dedicated server to play with his friends and "How do I make it so *you* can't log on to our server, Dad?", OH NO!

There's also subliminal messaging in that official trailer! Fun times! I did like the Iwatani bit. It was cute. (even though it was obvious where it was going) I have an urge to unlock a lady Lisa now, for some reason..
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Thanks, Ben! That made me chuckle out loud in the office!
  7. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

They've explicitly stated (Iwata, I think) that they will not be doing ports. These will be new games made for a touchscreen interface. So that's at least out.
  8. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

NO, BEN! THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVELY EPISODE VII THREAD!! :(
  9. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

Also, here's the full transcript from the conference: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2015/150317/05.html
  10. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

I'm definitely not afraid of low-quality stuff. I'm confident that these'll be really well-produced mobile games. And that's super exciting! The only thing I'm afraid of is them dipping their toes in F2P and doing it badly. They might do it well (that baseball game sounded like it had a really interesting bartering F2P concept) or they might do it badly (from what I hear Pokémon Shuffle is just basic, boring energy system), but I'm super excited about some Nintendo-quality mobile games. I just hope DeNA don't do too much consulting on how to design the perfect whale-manipulating F2P system, which from what I read they're really good at... Unified Account Platform is Ace, though. Super excited about this! EDIT: This has been a rollercoaster-ride of emotions this morning, all the way from just hearing "Nintendo & DeNA", looking at DeNA's list of games and thinking "WHAT?!" and to now being cautiously optimistic about this and honestly, a bit excited!
  11. Nintendo announces mobile deal with DeNA

If Nintendo is very hands-on about the games, I'm fine with this. Most of my fear of this came from DeNA being one of the worst offenders when it comes to gross F2P mechanics, but if Nintendo "flips the table" on that kind of stuff I'm fine with a mobile Nintendo branch. Also, unified account stuff is great and good that they're getting help with it, and they seem confident that DeNA has lots of experience with that. Also, Advance Wars on iOS. Advance Wars iOS. Advance Wars: Internal Operation Strike Avaaaaaaance Waaaaaaarsssss in my pocket! EDIT: There's no confirmation that NX is to replace the Wii U. Dedicated Gaming Hardware could also refer to a handheld. OR something more exciting like a handheld that also streams to your TV or something, I dunno!
  12. Cities: Skylines

Same thing happened to me. I placed it at the end of two streams, so maybe that had something to do with it? Placing it a second time in a single stream coming from a lake worked.
  13. Cities: Skylines

I'm really happy that the water is simulated in a a way that makes these floods possible!
  14. Ori and the Blind Forest

(Imagine the middle finger is extended as well)
  15. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Most of the reports I'm reading say it's Edwards, director of the new Godzilla. EDIT: Weirdly, this article's site header reads Gareth Evans, but the article says Edwards. It is definitely Edwards who's attached to the spin-off. Some actors from 'The Raid' are apparently going to be in Star Wars VII, though.
  16. Cities: Skylines

dibs, did you remember to connect it to a road? You probably forgot that.
  17. Cities: Skylines

No disasters, my ass! I built a Hydro dam at the end of *two* streams and was going about my business when suddenly I noticed the entire lower half of my map was entirely flooded. Ruined half my city! Ruined my beautiful dick road !! Road congestion is also just a disaster all on its own! I made a lot of silly road at the beginning, especially near the entry point to my city, and man when it got large enough did I regret that! Massive blackout due to fuel not being driven to the coal plant. My STATUE OF WEALTH, for crying out loud, burning because the Fire dept. couldn't get there! I love this game!
  18. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

    I think you're confused.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Hurwitz has talked about re-editing the fourth season into a chronological order, so more like classic Arrested Development in flow. I still enjoyed the 4th season and thought it was a fun experiment in comedy storytelling and an interesting solution to their problem of not being able to book all the actors at the same time. But yeah, it didn't feel like the old show.
  20. Discworld

“DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.”
  21. Amateur Game Making Night

Weird, I actually started a game for the Flash game competition "Gimme Friction Baby" was made for. It was called Rigby, and I didn't finish it for the competition deadline. But I did end up finishing it and entering it into the now defunct Mochi Media game competition and won 1st prize!!
  22. Danielle, streaming the games on the Idle Thumbs twitch would be ACE!
  23. Feminism

Medium does this wonderful (awful) thing of including the author's twitter handle with an @ in the URL, so when you link it the author is automatically tagged in it. EDIT: But ok, he was also just directly tagged in by someone! Yay!
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

The show was originally made for NBC, who didn't know what to do with it and thus it ended up on Netflix, which might explain why it is a very standard sitcom length. I really like it. I think it's fantastic, actually. And the length makes them very easily digestable. Patrick R, about the episode 3 spoiler
