Today I saw that Codemasters are making a spiritual successor to Micro Machines called Toybox Turbos. I briefly panicked, but then realised theirs is mostly similar to the shitty PSOne Micro Machines, with wacky powerups and weapons. So I'm good. I'm good! Lacabra, that looks brilliant still. I need to try it out on my sweet, new PC rig!

My girlfriend noted at the end, that she felt a bit of the dream universe's sense of mystery was lost by having The Man dancing during the credits. I'm not entirely sure I agree, but I thought it was a valid point.

Hnng... *brain melts* I can't even begin to deal with this line of thinking. "Our" culture? Feminists demand entrance? Aside from the rampant harassment and death threats, that they like to attribute to a few bad apples, this message from "moderate" GamerGaters is what's starting to bother me the most. As if they're representative of "gamers". As if somehow everyone else is "demanding" fucking entrance. As if feminists weren't also a part of this culture less than a decade back. As if their "consumer revolt" is somehow representative of all "gamers" and everyone else is literally the same people that made fun of them as kids. I can't even.. :(

To put a finer point on it, I think there was a time in the middle of what you're talking about and what it it now where the people we've been asked to sympathize with again and again because they're in GG for "good reason" were actually more or less acting in good faith when they were roped in by the bad actors you're talking about. When it was the movement that is now glorified but is really only a memory as compared to how the current iteration of GG is. I really do think there is a reason to recognize the early attacks on Zoe Quinn as effectively separate from GG because GG people earnestly seem to think that the two are not directly related but are willing to admit that they were subsequent. Ah, yes. Fair enough. EDIT: Damn you new page!

I feel I need to jump in here and point out that this definitely did not start out as an activist effort to promote ethics in a broad sense. It was a concentrated effort to attack Zoe Quinn for "being a (cheating) slut", but, as can be seen in the IRC logs from before #GamerGate became a thing, the "activists" carefully constructed the message that this had to somehow be seen as unethical journalism on the part of numerous co-conspirators so that they could get public opinion in their favor. Then, instead of attacking the journalists for this seeming unethical behavior, they just harassed Zoe Quinn about it. Then it blew up, Adam Baldwin coined the #GamerGate tag, the message changed into the more broader ethical crusade.. and well, here we are! I'm sorry for repeating this, you're all probably fully aware of this, but the origins sometimes seem to get lost in this big shit show. EDIT: Not that I disagree with the rest of JonCole's post! It's a great post and he's absolutely right about how the movement got co-opted by anti-women groups.

SUPER IMPORTANT SPOILERS, DUDE! ... or not, really. Don't worry folks. It's just awful.

I think I was too harsh to this episode on first thinking about it. Listening to the cast reminds me of loads of more scenes I loved. So in conclusion: This episode wasn't underwhelming. I was wrong!! I had completely forgotten about the one-armed man and that scene was so powerful to me, where Hawk chases him into that blindingly blue room. When he opens the door and the blue blends into the scene, it's just so visually arresting.

Yeah, I have watched this before, so I'm looking for stuff I remember being important. But my memory doesn't serve me very well, so I don't actually remember much of it apparently. And god damn it, yes.. that James. Cannot. Stand Him.

Yes, the entire first bit of this episode was gold. From Cooper hanging upside down, to the classic coffee line to everyone eating donuts at the station, Truman not getting a word in with his mouthful. Loved it! Aside from that I thought the episode was a bit underwhelming, especially coming after the excellent pilot.

Oh, man I have a whole backyard now that I bought a house! It's full of things already planted there. Pear trees, various berry bushes and shit! I'll post some pics later.

Rewatched the pilot with my wife last night, listened to the podcast today! Excellent discussion. Really looking forward to watching this along with you guys! Some scattered thoughts on the pilot: Troy Evans really sold the heck out of that principal's speech. I was almost in tears by the end! The long, ominous shots of the empty school helped.. James Marshall as James Hurley did not, for me.. I may be irreparably ruined on that character/actor having watched his storyline unfold in S2. They couldn't have found a better Jack Nicholson smirk-a-like: I found it hilarious that the deer head was ever supposed to hang on the wall there, it's HUGE! How would anyone ever be able to walk around that table? On rewatching Andy is still my favorite goofy, naive, child-like trooper ever: I loved these two shots of the Major! That background in the sheriff's station scene. Maybe not the most beautiful shots in a pretty visually stunning pilot, but they stood out to me! "Know why I'm whittling?" "Because that's what you do in a town where a yellow light still means slow down, not speed up." Here's the mysterious mirror at the end of the episode, for those who missed it. Spoilered, just because.. Anyways! Sorry for the image dump. Thanks for doing this podcast, it's an excellent thing and a good reason to rewatch this thing!
