Yoshi's Island was so great. I can't wait for this. I'm really excited about the DS this year.
-
That was great. Next year should be 90 minutes of Miyamoto dancing.
-
Supposedly we get the real trailer next month.

You suck. I thought Partners in Time was great. Possibly not as good as the GBA original, but definitely a worthy sequel.

Who at Mixnmojo mindlessly embraced the fourth Monkey Island upon its release? I recall the original Mojo review almost having to apologize for the community's hatred for it. "Yeah, you know, it's really not that bad of a game."
-
Yeah, fair or not Psychonauts is now considered a pretty signifcant cause of Majesco's recent failing. Shame too, because if Tim's various interviews are anything to go by the publisher/developer relationship between Majesco and Double Fine was a very good one and Tim was hoping for a long partnership with them.
-
Double Fine was founded on Tim's birthday?

Dude, gigantic is being way too kind. I think more along the lines of humongous or gargantuan is a more appropriate description. Glad to hear I'm not the only who thought it totally destroyed the game's atmosphere as well. Am I the only person who wasn't that impressed by KOTOR?
-
Maybe if they find something evil in Psychonauts it will sell well.
-
EDIT: That would only be a week's worth of PS2 sales, but still. Cripes.
-
Should I find solace in the fact that they simply say Psychonauts has "slow" sales rather than calling it a commercial failure like they did Advent Rising? Incidentally, I hate everything.
-
Yep. I always sort of gathered that management fucked up the original games through a variety of ways. There's only so much one guy can do.

Don't forget the emerging promising and innovative Mercenaries franchise!!!1111111

Is Simon really the one to blame, though?

A Scott Campbell said: "He was totally not very limber, and everyone thought he was a girl."

I'd disagree that little sets it apart from other platformers, but my point was not that the game is difficult to grasp. I think anybody could find it easy to get into, but that can only happen if they play the game first. To a lot of people who see it on the shelf it might seem too bizarre to gamble the fifty bucks on when they have the option of picking up something familiar they feel more comfortable about.
-
Yes, but take away the familiar controls and you're left with something that no one has ever seen before. I think a lot of people look at the game and are unsure of what to make of it, hence it's too different to take a chance with.
-
The good news just keeps rolling in. Why?
-
Agreed. I only meant that the huge amount Majesco spent on marketing is going to make it hard for Psychonauts to break even despite the short while they had to fund development.
-
But that could have been why they went for a huge marketing campaign which was supposedly "multimillion dollar." So, fuck.
-
That's when you know it's true love.

I'd agree that it's odd, but the thing is you get to do a lot of universally fun things by way of your psychic powers. Despite the zaniness there's actions you can perform that I think just about anyone could enjoy. The idea of being a psychic can sound cool if you advertise the right way. Really, I think a lot Schafer games are like that. You go through a really original world and story but in a way and through a character that's easy to like and that you want to get into. As I think you stated earlier, Full Throttle was appealing because you got to play as a cool biker gang leader. An attractive aspect of Grim Fandango was that you got to play as the Grim Reaper, and in this game you're among the paranormally gifted and you can do stuff like set things on fire with your mind. And what Jake said. I feel somewhat sympathetic for Majesco though because unlike most publishers would have they did their part money-wise, and seemingly picked up this game because they themselves found and knew it was brilliant. I mean if the various interviews are anything to go by they love the game. Do they get extra points for at least having their heart in the right place?
-
You know, we can discuss these over-the-top theories all day, but the truth is that the lack of explosions on the box art was the game's undoing.
-
But considering a lot of us pre-ordered ours or purchased it online, we wouldn't be part of that number, would we?

I've heard some complaints about wacky distribution problems. Other than that, the bottom line is that people suck.
