  10. time to make some album covers

Nope, sorry... The caption had something like "I like planets" at the end of it though. I had a quick search and there are a whole heap of images using this technique, e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/melh/423364373/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikkelelbech/773069425/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sushla/582345653/sizes/o/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sayzey/2160675332/

    Here's my contribution...
  12. DS modding

Firstly, if this breaks any forum rules then I sincerely apologise. Anyway, I will soon be travelling to various parts of the world of which there will be a high chance of having valuable electronic items stolen or lost (drunkenly or otherwise), and of which I will keep undisclosed for fear of making generalisations (the parts of the world, not the electronic items). Now, I'd love to take my DS and a selection of my treasured games along with me, and I could handle losing the DS as it is 1st gen., but would hate to lose the games as the collective value of said games would of course increase (edit: linearly) with each one that I stuff into my duffel bag. So, I've been doing some reading about DS modding, and while there is some really inventive homebrew software that I'd find both useful and fun, what I'd really like to know is whether I can (theoretically) run commercial roms (of games I own) on a modded DS. It's difficult to garner any straight information from any of the more questionable modding related sites I have stumbled across, as they skirt around the issue to protect themselves, and the more bonafide sites avoid the issue altogether. By the way, as anyone actually used the remote desktop homebrew application? It looks fantastic...
  13. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Just what I wanted to hear. I mean, I expected as much. I was just a bit worried about this kind of thing, mostly because Star Fox Adventures received such rave reviews. I thought perhaps there'd been an unfortunate sea change in the genre (though I've only played a little of The Wind Waker).
  14. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

I'm only up to the part where you get the , and I'm finding the whole thing a bit linear to be honest. Does the game loosen up and let you explore more / pursue side quests / generally fuck about more, or is it more like the atrocious Star Fox Adventures? And yeah, Majora's Mask is the best Zelda by a mile (though admittedly, OOT obviously set the scene for it).
  15. Chibi Robo? More like Feeble Robo!

I'm several (in-game) days into this and while I'm still not entirely sold on it, after reading these comments I think I'll have to go put another how or so into it. What I really want is a sequel to Space Station Silicon Valley. That game was so incredibly awesome.
  16. Alan Wake

IMO, Donkey Kong 64 and Star Fox Adventures, graphics aside, were both absolutely awful games. And I loved Banjo Kazooie and the N64 Zeldas (of which SFA borrows heavily from).
  17. Guitar Hero II

Oh, badly... *huge* Gibson Explorer fan here. "How I would push my fingers through, your mouth to make those muscles move that made your voice so smooth and sweet..." Er... um... Wireless Explorer FTW! (or some other appropriate Internet parlance). Anyway, I am fairly drunk and about to watch "Where the Buffalo Roam" for the first time. Allegedly, it's not as bad as we've been led to believe... But firstly, as far as bands not allowing their tracks to be used for Guitar Hero... is it purely a monetary / licensing / greedy management issue? Or an artistic qualm? Because if the later is the case, why not write off (at least a good portion of) the licensing fee to charity - surely that would keep the fans happy and the mongrel crictics at bay?
  18. Gamecube homebrew

Alright, here I go again. I've just been donated a modded Gamecube and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether there is anything cool to do with it besides play this full-sized DVD copy of Super Smash Bros. with the case off (I own the original btw, hopefully clearing any ominous legal implications). If my googling efforts are any indication, the GC homebrew scene seems to be a bit dead...
  19. Gamecube homebrew

Well... I think it may just be the A.C. adapter, in which case I'll retire it to my bar fridge to keep the components in suspended animation. It's not quite time for a 21 super scope salute yet, I hope. On that note, I'll leave you, forever optimistic...
  20. Gamecube homebrew

Although, I'm gonna have to give the SNES emulator a whirl, as I think my original console has finally packed it in. It seems there is a Genesis emulator as well.
  21. Gamecube homebrew

Thanks a bunch Tamper. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, as I'd hoped it would be useful for something other than playing pirated games... but at least I know the score now.
  22. DS modding

Erm, well I'm fairly certain they're not rare by the standards of many who post here, but some cartridges that I had great difficulty tracking down here in Australia were Super Street Fighter II, Doom II and Fire Emblem. I have a fair few other genuinely rare games, but they're all black market knock offs. I'm very careful buying games on ebay now as a result, as I had the unfortunate situation of purchasing a bunch of these illegitimate carts and having to send them back to be repaired anyway, as the battery saves were damaged in shipping (or possible never working in the first place), only to never hear from the seller again (that motherfucker). Anyway, I'm also now salivating over the idea of playing the homebrew / emulated DS Doom, as I still play my Doom II cartridge while travelling to this day, despite its slight mediocrity. Oh, and on the topic of running GBA games directly from the CF card - I take it there is some sort of GUI to launch any DS roms or homebrew from the card, but I was thinking that while the CF / SD card reader is in the GBA slot, it is essentially rigged up to the DS slot via the pass-through card, thus rendering the GBA slot 'out of action' perhaps? Unless there is some sort of software witch doctory happening that simulates both slots...
  23. DS modding

Ideally both GBA and DS games... as some of my GBA games are rare and I'd hate to lose them too (apart from the ill-purchased ebay hong kong knock-offs). DS games are the priority though. I'm running a 1st gen. DS, and I've got a 512mb compact flash card already, which would be plenty to fit all of my games on - though I am tempted to buy an SD card for 'bulk reasons'. I take it I can't run GBA games straight off the flash card as with the DS games?
  24. DS modding

Cheaper than buying all my games again though... Thanks for the comments guys.
  25. Bargain bin bounty

I managed to buy a boxed copy* on ebay... and the damned battery save carked it about 2 days after it arrived from China (as was the story with 5-6 other Hong Kong specials). I've learnt my lesson . *The box was obviously counterfeit too - the contents of the 'instruction manual' was a review from GamePro...
