  1. The pilot available on Netflix is the American version. I read that the international version is longer, so I tried to acquire that and watched it. Thing is, the international version was cut into a stand-alone TV movie that reveals the ending. Guess which I ended up watching? I've seen most of the series previously and my partner had seen all of it, so no real damage done. Odd way to start a rewatch though.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I can't find actual examples of anyone engaging the bot.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Nope, Merus is just being clever.

    Angelfire?
  5. D4 by SWERY

I'm never buying another console again, so I won't get to play this. But it's amazing and I would buy it in a second. By the maker of Deadly Preminition, but has gameplay more suited to his strengths. Batshit insane as expected.

So the job interview I mentioned a couple of weeks ago went pretty damned great. It was actually my second job interview, I got call about another teaching position after I wrote the post. I wasn't as certain about that job as this one, so fortunately I got some practice as I was really nervous during the first interview. The principals of the school had become excited about my background at a local well-respected science centre as well as my focus on the educational use of games during my studies. They basically changed the job description of the job posting to utilise my background. The interview was only two days after the job posting appeared online, so I've had to wait for two weeks after that interview to get a confirmation. I've been a wreck, but I finally got the call just now. Ugh, I almost feel guilty about how fortunate I am, especially after reading about the experiences some of you have had with looking for jobs. Those two weeks were hell on me, I don't know how I could have coped with a prolonged period of unemployment. I didn't know what to say about it until I knew, which is why I didn't answer Miffy's reply. You were spot on though: feeling like a fraud when writing the applications and acutely during that first interview. The atmosphere was great in the second one though, so it dissipated. When they started talking about what they were hoping me to do, though, I'm certain all the colour drained from my face and hands because I was so shocked. Anyway, it's a dream job and it'll last the school year. After that, I'll actually get livable unemployment benefits from the union and I'll have some experience so I won't have to rely on a stroke of luck next time. I worry about the challenge since they're asking for something a bit out of the ordinary and it's my first teaching position. It's what's called a "resource teacher" over here, who are usually used to help other teachers with large or difficult classes. I'll be doing that, but I'll also have to try to help the teachers with inquiry based learning, using games and game-like ideas and such. Anyway, rainbows and unicorns all around.
  7. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

That sounds like a poor solution compared to John Walker's: just let the player finish the game even if he missed something.
  8. Walking Dead Season the Second

Finished this yesterday. I didn't like the last three episodes and will definitely not be buying the third season. I guess a lot has been already said and the experience was so deflating I don't feel like going into all that bothered me. I just felt like the game manipulated me throughout without any notion of sticking to the established rules of this world.
  9. In Civ games you generally don't see a resource until you have a use for it or very near that point. Many resources in this are also hidden at the start. What I would like is tiles that are marked as having an unknown resource at the start if it was visible from orbit. Otherwise these would be uncovered by proximity. Each of the resources would be distinguishable from others even before you know what the resources actually are. Perhaps through a colour code that was randomized for each game. Actually finding out what resource you are dealing with would require research unlocked by having a unit investigate the resource. However, the specifics are not really that important. What I would like is a maps that's visually uncovered from the start because that's the only thing that makes sense. You'd see whether a tile was water, arid, snow and such. However, uncovering specific functionality the tile had would require proximity or special satellite technology. This would make gameplay distinct from a regular Civilization game without making it unrecognisable.
  10. What's Danielle's Twitch channel?
  11. I just mean like... Minerals that aren't immediately visible on the tile. I'm still getting this as soon as I can. I think the way the small choices which change what bonuses you get from buildings and such will make the game feel different. There seems to be more space for player expression.

That looks amazing. I just remember I should read Pynchon a few days ago. Maybe I should try reading this before the movie is out.
  13. I would have loved to have started with a visual representation of the word that meant little. Obviously they couldn't know what the things they saw from orbit were until on the ground. So instead of exploring just to uncover the map, you would explore and research particular features to find out what they are. Also, you could have important subterranean features that would be hidden at the start. So many possibilities.
  14. Wasteland 2

Bouncing off this so hard. I started a new game, built a new team and stopped playing again when another of my characters died of friendly fire. Does the writing get better later? So far I haven't encountered anything that was interesting or pleasurable in the writing. Just run of the mill cliched post-apocalyptic writing and sand. I don't get what part of this game should be pulling me to continue playing it.
  15. They literally would only have had to look outside for a while in order to draw a map of the continents and oceans.
  16. Ello.co

Ello is not operated by any government.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't really agree about the pacing. I actually think it ground to a halt around the middle. I liked it, but the characters are a lot more distant than in many Gilliam films.
  18. Unreal Tournament (The new one)

I have a really hard time looking at game play of this because the movement seems so slow to me. Not just slow, there's more to it, but I don't know how to describe it. It's the same with other new UT inspired games. I must have played more Quake 3 than I remember.

Hah, legally mandated to field a candidate? Crazy that your political parties are so entrenched.

You sell the fridge and tell the landlord you lost it when you move.
  21. Feminism

That's not a criticism. There is nothing in the videos that would suggest it to begin with. It's merely an attack and changing the videos to counter attacks when new ones can be simply invented would stop her from doing any real work.

I have my first proper job interview in my field on Thursday, which is the same day I officially graduate. I suddenly feel a bit sick. Actually didn't really expect to be called into an interview yet.
