After the newest patch the game no longer runs for more than a couple of minutes. Man, what a drag.

That's what I had heard, although I don't have any experience with it.

I still can't get over the video in the original post. I still get a huge kick from it.

Does VR even work with FPS games? Doesn't that make folks hurl everywhere?

Can anyone help me compile some open source multiplatform software on Windows?
brkl posted a topic in Idle Banter
Hey guys, I've been using a piece of algorithmic music software called Chuck for a while. They offer binaries which work just fine, but the software also supports extensions and for some of those there are no binaries available. There's really only one I'm dying to use (an experimental piano synth), but in order to compile it, I would first need to compile Chuck itself. I've spent some hours and this and I can't get it done. This is the link to Chuck downloads: http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/release/ Direct link to source package for Windows: http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/release/files/chuck-1.3.5.2.tgz This is the extension I'm trying to get compiled: https://sites.google.com/site/julianfaust/projects/coupled-piano-strings/Sympia-0.1.zip?attredirects=0 I guess these are basically .dll files except the extension is renamed to .chug. Could anyone help me with this? I have a hunch some of you do this stuff routinely, but for me it's hours of work and no guarantee of success. -

Thanks for the effort! I'm sticking to binaries in the future -
What's a good online newspaper? Bbc and NY Times can be biased.

Huh, I don't think I have it in me. I can't even find Cygwin mentioned in the manual. It just says type 'make win32' and everything should work. I installed Cygwin but I get some error. I'm going to let it go. It just reminds me how much I hate working with anything that has to do with Linux. I've been hearing how it's all better now since I first tried Suse 6.0, but every time I've tried Linux something eventually breaks mysteriously. EDIT: What a waste of time and effort. I tried to get the thing compiled in Linux inside Virtualbox, and although I could get Chuck compiled, no luck with the extension. I'm must have been born under unlucky open source stars or something, because so many people swear by Linux. I'm sure I've put at least a hundred hours in Linux that have gained me nothing but lines in my face. Sorry about the whiny thread :X -

Guh, well thanks Erkki. Maybe I'll give it another shot at some point when I feel like I have the energy. -

What do you reckon I could use? I've tried the free version of Visual Studio, but it gives errors. Either they don't play well together or I'm doing something wrong. Are there other options? -
I just saw He Never Died on Netflix. The summary pretty much promises a cheap, bad action movie, but it's actually very good! All the reviews call it horror-comedy, but it never looks or sounds like a comedy. It's nothing like Evil Dead. Anyway, I recommend it heartily. It's about a cannibal who never died.

Idle Thumbs 256: The First Great Brand War
brkl replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I think they've been amazingly clever with the design. I'm very happy with what I got for the $15 I paid. I disagree that the staggered release puts the onus on the climax. I think it's that way for Telltale episodes, but not this. They are very different because this is so incredibly replayable. The individual levels have to be worth what I pay for them, but the whole package doesn't suffer if one isn't up to par. -
I dig your podcast, Teddy. Interesting questions, I mostly had no idea what the discussion could lead to.

King Crimson is my all-time favourite band, but I don't think it works particularly well in the film.

Cheers, that'll do. Ugh, why don't they have an archive with the lot...

Do you guys know where I could get some good quality, very clearly marked WAV samples? By clearly marked I mean I need to know which notes they are, if they are only labeled with a number it gets too cumbersome. I'd love to have several instruments, but even a set of 88 piano samples would be appreciated.

Loved it, seven thumbs up. -
We should lock all threads.

Thanks, Chris. I don't listen to every episode so I was wondering how I managed to miss Sean. Then I figured out it was because he was somehow more taxed with Firewatch. So now I'd been waiting for him to turn up.

The new Iggy Pop album is sick.

Ugh, this movie. I feel a bit sick, it just strikes so close. Although in the plot no-one has been born in 18 years -- as if such a crisis is needed, in my current state of mind I cant imagine this stuff 10 years into the future with just a progression what's going on. I was already feeling dark this morning ("I should get my story straight for when in 40 years kids will be asking me what the fuck we were thinking"), this was probably not the right choice.
