  1. I had something like a paintjob picture of Michael Jordan on a 386 in mind. Writing it down and reading it now, it does sound pretty implausible.
  2. I laughed. Yeah, you are right, the heat.
  3. Awesome MI2 2D/3D Projection thingie

Yeah, I saw his name as well and thought 'Shit, those were the days', or something. He and Etienne were the most fun. After he'd left, I couldn't stand to watch Giga Games much longer - the show went downhill, I went uphill, I'm not sure. Giga Games: A Youth Well Wasted.Oh, and the video looks great. And thanks for the fantastic Goblins Gobelins linkage.
  4. I'd say the emptiness adds to the atmosphere.
  5. I think 'The Dig' is greatly underrated. It might have the best atmosphere of all LA-adventures. The characters aren't that deep, and the story isn't that complex, but the whole alien-world is an interesting and atmospheric place, and the characters and story work very well in it. It's less a humour game like the Monkeys or Tentacles, but as a sci-fi-adventure it's up there with those games and Fate and Loom on my personal pedestal of honour.

I somehow stumbled upon a NeoGaf-thread about strange/creepy/disgusting animals called 'Ungodly Creatures' and so for the last two days am flipping between that, Wikipedia and Youtube, getting excited, repelled or slightly creeped out, instead of doing some semi-important university stuff that needs to be done. Giant crabs, little crab-parasites that replace tongues of bigger fish, eggs that grow together with the frog-mothers back, bird eating spiders, super-camouflage octopus, alien-octopus and alien-shark, etc. – I love the internet, I love planet earth. The stuff I do for university right now is fun and interesting, as the small group of people I work with is great and it all feels a little like real academic work, all of us doing research, discussing, talking at eyelevel with the professor. And I got accepted by the University of Tokyo as an exchange student for half a year, and, when everything goes according to plan, I will be staying in a cheap and nice students' hostel in the heart of Tokyo, some minutes walk away from Yoyogi Park. Mankind is still for fuck (Iran, Korms' story, China, Honduras, Congo, a lot of other places), but blissful ignorance allows me to feel good right now. [Now I am just waiting for the kick in the balls.]
  7. Oh, I am exited. I will definitely buy the games I never owned but played – Loom, Fate, MI1. And probably all the others just for convenience's sake. Having all those great games available on all the computers around the world with minimal hassle is a nice thought. In an ideal world, LA would give the guys behind SCUMM-VM a share of the money. Mh, maybe I will donate some money. [i looked into it.] Damn, they have problems with stupid paypal, so it isn't that easy. I somehow get Ossk's sentiment though. But I can easily justify buying some games again because, as said, it's more like I pay for the services Steam provides this time, and not so much for the games itself. I my head, that is.
  8. Not to state the obvious, but, erm, the both of you, just edit your posts, make it look like it never happened. By the way, Use Boxmen is a nice little flashbased indie-game.

I only watched Infernal Affairs and thought it was a fantastic film. And I heard that the remake is pretty much the same movie (even down to camera angles), except that they somehow changed the end (some mix-up with Infernal Affairs II and III) and glued western faces over the whole stuff.
  11. Books, books, books...

I highly recommence 'Lockpick Pornography', a novel by Joey Comeau. If you are in any way interested in heteronormativity, gender, consumerism, read it! Even if you are not, it's still great thoughtful fun. It's really short, intelligent, sometimes explicit, it doesn't paint black and white, and I found the whole story and the characters to be quite believable. Comeau is one half of the people behind 'A Softer World', an internet-photo-comic-thing you might know. The entire novel is available in PDF-form on his website for free (so you can give it a try right now), or in orderable book-form somewhere on the same site.

As you've said, great position to be in. Right now I am still a dirty student, and what comes after that, I have no idea. But I guess, money for food and shelter and living will come into conflict with a fulfilling job, at least at the start of my 'career'. On the other hand, maybe I'll take advantage of the freedom I enjoy not having a family to support – the freedom to be poor. Sucks, Thunder. Was it the cuddling with David Simon? (Mh, maybe its to early for bad jokes.)

Yeah, Scrobbs, that sounds fantastic. (Out of interest, how ill you handle the less-money-part? 1/5 sounds like not very much. Or was your former job disgustingly well paid?) But, money-shmoney, you rock, and I hope it goes well. Patters, have you tried sports? Might sound lame, but it worked for me in a similar time. For some months I went bouldering (climbing small heights without rope) a lot, mostly to drive away the bad stuff in my head. It was something I could do alone, and afterwards I felt physically exhausted but quit good most of the time.

Sorry for introducing politics into this thread. Just a few words regarding this particular shop-smashing. Complicated stuff. I oppose violence and vandalism even in the context of such a counterdemonstration, but for me this specific shop and its circumstances are situated somewhere grey. (Might be reality-grey, might be inconsistency-grey.) A little introduction. The shop opened up some weeks ago at the rather ugly and unpopular end of Halle's major shopping street that connects the central station and the city centre. (The opening was accompanied by peaceful and gaudy protest as well.) It's a disgrace to see this shop opening up at all, and its in your face location just adds to the feeling of anger and disgust. The brand it sells looks quit hip and casual and most of it isn't nazi at first glance, probably the stuff that would get advertised at Third Reich-MTV. It is adapted nazism, looks nice, oh, this is a fine and upright young man, a lot nicer than this pesky pot-smoking leftwing scum. It is modest, it undermines, it normalises. Another big problem is that those shops are supposed to be nazi pickup points and places were one secretly gets nazi-music and other propaganda that is illegal. As said, there were peaceful protests before, leaflets were spread, the local newspaper wrote something – efforts were made to make people aware. So I hope that most of the people who heard about or saw the wrecked shop knew what kind of shop this is (and smiled). No other shops were harmed, nothing burnt, I heard nothing regarding further vandalism – the protests were peaceful. The smashing causes expenses of time and money for the owner, and I hope it strengthens the impression that he and his kind are really not welcome in our town and that he will have a hard time staying in business. In conclusion I guess the singularity of the vandalism, that it was targeted and not blind, and that it fucks with the nazis makes it okay, even great in my opinion. Just to add to the confusion, I do think that arresting the guys who trashed the place is the right thing, it was illegal what they did, and I strongly support the rule of law. (Not taken into consideration for this rambling: facts, police-expanses, insurance-money, a consistent argumentation) Back to life: A girl and I just broke up some days ago, by mutual consent, again, even multi-again, years were involved, we are still good friends, we really [think we] are, and now she is seeing some other guy, but I don't mind, maybe because I am still in love with this other girl, a lesbian in a long and happy relationship, a girl I maybe loved more than my now ex-girlfriend all along, a girl that never felt the same for me and that is my best friend. But, you know, complicated stuff, I don't know.

Today a lot of good people in Halle, Germany, including some friends and myself just greatly hindered a Nazi-procession by blocking their marching-routs, and thus keeping them out of the city centre and forcing them to hold their rally in the middle of nowhere. The brown-scum had registered a rout with the authorities but they kept quiet to avoid a clash between the two sides and nobody from our side knew their plan. With some guesswork, scouts, watching of police-movement, a lot of mobile communication and some fast walking and running we managed to block the right streets before the police could hinder us and so the boys in blue (green) had to change the Nazi-flow on the go. Where we were, everything was peaceful, police was mostly nice to the crowd, and vice versa, aside from the usual drunken guy teasing police and some of them being frustrated and venting on the wrong people. Total win! On our way home, we had to pass a recently opened barely legal Nazi-clothing-store and saw that the windows were broken, trashcans were spilled in front of it and red paint was all over the place. Double total win! My sympathies to the ones who posted sad and unhappy stories here. Sucks! Hope, it gets better soon.

Monty Python's Lumberjack Song maybe? There is a line like this, but I don't know, if this specific lumberjack ages faster.
  17. Edge of Twilight

Same here. Thinking about it, Anachronox is supposed to be cyberpunk and while I don't have a clear understanding of those terms it might be the 'punk' that is similar. The cityscape they showed in the trailer reminds me of Anachronox' Hephaestus. And to go even further into uninteresting detail, Anachronox' cut scene-camera work was outstanding and this trailer shows some comparably good tracking shots. Especially in this one scene (30-35sec) everything some things (animation, the tracking shot, the guy walking could have been made with the modified Quake2-engine) looks a lot a little like Anachronox---really!Man, I love Anachronox, and I love this fantastic trailer. The Edge of Twilight looks very interesting indeed – thanks for bringing that up. Anachronox!

My biggest problem with the "plot" (see, I even used "'s) was, that the Not that I expected a deep plot or characters or something, but the extend to which this film was dump and filled with stalking and wooden talking clichés made me pretty much not enjoy the film.
  20. Boycott Left 4 Dead 2!

Mh, Valve said they still want to update L4D. And they already provided updates. And nobody knows (I guess), how they plan to price L4D2. And they said they have enough ideas for a proper sequel. I kind of trust them, even if it seems a little odd at first. When Valve says 'Hey, we want to make a new game out of our brilliant ideas', I'm okay with that. I like them. They made great games so far, and provided the multiplayer games I bought with new contend for free. Other companies don't do that. In conclusion I think the whiny internets are a bunch of ungrateful and spoiled bastards.
  21. You somehow managed to pretty much make the exact same post I wanted to make, but in the end was to lazy to write. You even included the most-ugly Gubybrush-picture from the LA-site and compared him to CMI-Guybrush. Well done and thank you.I remember some scenes in CMI where Guybrush looked a little like a fuckwit (I couldn't find the one I was looking for, but this should give you an idea) as well, so I somehow hope that I'll get used to HitlerYouth-Guybrush, as there were some scenes in the making of video on the promo site, in which he looked likeable somehow. Does anybody see a problem with them voicing all the dialogue? I'm not even questioning the quality of the voicework, but rather the whole 'written dialogue to spoken dialogue'-thing. I am a little worried, that some of the lines, which all were written without the option of a voiceover in mind (I guess), work very well when they are read and head-internally spoken by the player become unfunny when voiced and thus pre-interpreted and timed and whatnot.
  22. [in a rough german to english translation: Achtung! You are not allowed to watch zee video in your inferior country.] But thanks anyway.
  23. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

    Now it should work.
  24. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

So even it is a 'story' it isn't fiction, because it 'happened'? Or what? Sounds somewhat believable, quite eccentric, but, in my (uninformed) mind, it fits the game industry in 2001 (the Ion Storm stories of extravagances, and just look at the suit CliffyB is wearing -> it has to be true!). Mh, whatever, nice read. Okay, on second thought, the violence sounds a bit off. But the 'idea' could be 'real'.
  25. My googabilities fail me today, as I can't find a watchable version of the Jace Hall - Dante's Inferno video you guys are talking about. I do find a lot of 'Katee Sackhoff & Dante's Inferno', which seems to be the right one, but always get the message 'You are not from the US, so fuck off'. Has anyone found a european-allowed version?
