  1. "How to Become a Better Videogame Journalist"

The author sights Digg (henceforth renamed as Dikk) as a good source of inspiration. I'm sorry, but the amount of retarded user-submitted shit over there makes me embarrassed to speak English in the first place, nevermind to wax lyrical about some game or other which the knuckle-dragging membership deem fitting of 'praise'. I wouldn't be able to type anything anyway for the resultant convulsions of having to trawl through such vast mounds of crap.
  2. What are you listening to?

Watched the Australian one - absolutely amazing!
  3. Have you ever played games on your mobile?

Auto-fire would be your friend, methinks; just let the player control where the ship is and leave the cannons, missiles blazing by default.
  4. Arcade Revivalist Foundation

I was going to put Knights in my list, but I thought Cadillacs stood out more for it's unusual setting. It would be nice to see one or two of Capcom's same-generation Dungeons & Dragons side-scrollers show up again.
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

Season three's just been cancelled though, sadly, due to a lack of funding.
  6. Drawn To Be Alive - mod with great art style

Looks fantastic, especially those unique puzzle elements.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

A friend who was a dedicated follower of Babylon 5 said the series did pitch into the sea quite badly during its middle seasons, but was saved towards the end by some bold writing and a distinct "yes the show's been canned, but we don't give a shit" attitude from all involved. Never did get around to watching it all though.
  8. Arcade Revivalist Foundation

I'd like Capcom to wheel out any of the following: Alien versus Predator Cadillacs and Dinosaurs Captain Commando Cyberbots Magic Sword
  9. Heroes in a half-shell

    On that note: new thread!
  10. You talky DS?

A colleague IM'd me this earlier, thought peeps here might be interested: HelloDS - Voice Over IP (VoIP) for Nintendo DS WiFi Looks nifty, even if you'll look a muppet with a DS strapped to the side of your head. (Maybe it's time to buy that DS headset at long last?) Fingers crossed The Big 'N' don't stamp on it either. Oh and I'm open to taking bets on when Sony announce they've just invented VoIP, with the release of a similar PSP version...
  11. What are you listening to?

I have just the biggest, stupidest grin on my face right now... Roger-dodge. I've got three in the offing right now actually, but haven't done the production work on any of them yet. Yes, which is great to see. Really thought that was a goner in all honesty... Props - anything noteworthy?
  12. What are you listening to?

Sorry, Yuf. I meant no MySpace account for what I'm currently listening to, because it's got a "proper" web site.
  13. What are you listening to?

No MySpace account - mercifully - but I'm working my way, again, through the generally-superb offerings from ProgressiveHouse.com's Progcast; #029 (Matt Vinkalmann's set) being a particular highlight at the moment. I DJ in my spare time, and Progressive is mostly what I listen to pretty much any time of the day or night. Hoping to do a series of live sessions from within Second Life too, at some point in the not-too-distant future.
  14. Have you ever played games on your mobile?

<bitch>Isn't "shitty" a forgone with anything sporting that badge?</bitch>
  15. What are you playing today?

You're a regular sadist for willingly opting for a second run-through if you ask me... but good luck anyway.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

They shot my favourite (and the series' most important) character in the throat during the opening scenes. But apparently this murderous threat isn't the biggest problem for the White House today. No, it's the ham-acting neurotic wife flipping out and dunking herself in the nearest sink, before stomping off to trash a press conference... puh-lease. Season 3 was pretty shitty by all accounts--didn't watch that one either, as the opening episode there also spiralled into the poo quite rapidly. And it had no affect on my enjoyment of the more-traditional season 4.
  17. Heroes in a half-shell

I remember going on a school trip to Alton Towers as a kid, and they had several TMNT arcade machines scattered around the park. Kids went missing for hours (literally), only to be found pumping 50p's into these things--me included. Brilliant school trip though.
  18. Heroes in a half-shell

    No shit! Enjoyed that.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

No. And, out of principle - plus knowing that the original story's been grossly overpadded - I think that's reason enough not to add my number to the viewing figures. I vote with my remote, and this remote sez, "stop fucking about with perfectly good stories, just so you can stretch 24 episodes out of the thing." The TV execs responsible for Lost's rapid weight gain should have been drowned at birth IMHO.
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Down in the Valley (starring the ever-compelling Ed Norton) is the most striking and memorable film I've seen recently. And - for what it's worth - I thought Lord of War in its entirety was a superb film--not just that fantastic introductory sequence. Bullet Boy premiered on TV here in the UK not so long back, and that's bitter-sweet to watch. Might be because it reminds me so much of the rough easter-English towns I grew up in when I was a kid though. But still, heartily recommended; the main characters are brilliantly portrayed, and very fragile (despite their gangsta leanings). An deeply touching and 'human' film. At the moment, I have Jet Li's latest - and last - martial arts film, Fearless, ready to go. I'm really looking forward to watching it, too. TV I've gone off completely, especially since Lost - Season 2 disappeared up its own plot loopholes. I switched off the first episode of the latest series of 24 after just 20 minutes as well; what's happened to great TV series' all of a sudden? Fingers crossed the third season of Battlestar Gallactica gets back to it's first season roots a little more. Otherwise, I can see it being a long, cold winter this year--tellivisually speaking of course!!!
  21. Have you ever played games on your mobile?

I play a couple quite often; old Sony Ericsson versions of Black Jack and Space Invaders--with the Black Jack game being my favourite. As for 'brand' games, War of the Worlds by GameLoft is brilliant (truthfully) - but too short. It's scoring system isn't nearly intelligent enough either, making it a missed opportunity to provide some seriously addictive combo-based gameplay. A real shame. Other mobile games I've played (all by GameLoft) include: Splinter Cell - Pandora Tomorrow Actually quite fun but, again, very short. Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory Inferior to the earlier Pandora Tomorrow version, because it relies on gimmicks to provide distinction. Sexy Poker 2004 Was hoping for a quality card game, but childish pixelated smut needlessly dominates every aspect. King Kong - Official Mobile Game of the Movie Pretty crap platformer, and extremely short. 2005 Real Football Much too demanding on my humble T610's limited resources for what it is, rendering it almost unplayable. Medieval Combat - Age of Glory Mobile-loading-time-hell equivalent of PSP title Smackdown vs. Raw 2006--it's shit once it's finally finished churning, too (I had intended to ring GameLoft and ask for my money back, but never got around to it). The above list is in 'purchased order', and, after the last two, I've gone off mobile gaming completely--except for the two bespoke Sony Ericsson titles I mentioned at the start. Having said that I have played Doom RPG a little on my brothers significantly-newer Sony Ericsson phone, and that's quite fun actually. Novel too, and, being turn-based, it also makes an extremely appropriate mobile game. So, to sum up; I'd recommend either War of the Worlds (any phone) or Doom RPG (newer phones) if you were looking to buy a modern mobile game.
  22. Heroes in a half-shell

It's Krang, you fool! "Shredder! I want those *snort* tuuurtllles!" Pfff, you should be forced to watch every episode of the ball-achingly crap final two cartoon series' as punishment. PS: Every household should be retrofitted with a copy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Arcade Game immediately. All dissenting senior family members must play this game in simultaneous four-player mode until they admit that "video games are actually fucking brilliant!" This is law. PPS: Bring back arcades. :\
  23. sound of justice and freedom [spam]

    Bill Bailey for (UK) President.
  24. What are you playing today?

Nah - think Tron but with bendy light trails which only displace you, rather than kill you outright. Mind you, if you're cunning, you can set up your 'stream' so that chasing 'dots' are forced into other objects and crash...
  25. Cats and hitler

Plus hand-held catapult. (Make sure you put plastic sheeting down first though.)
