In fairness se7en was a good film in spite of it's retarded title. On the other hand, crappy manufactured boy band 5ive were crappy. At any rate, given the reaction I can't see the title hanging around for too long.

OK, so maybe I was supposed to want to punch her in the face, but given that she's one of the main protagonists I assumed that I was supposed to be on her side. Another example that's less open to interpretation is from the final episode: That's exactly the same anti-intellectual thinking that allows Jenny McCarthy to use her "mommy instinct" to diagnose her son with autism and justify her anti-vaccination stance. It's wrong headed and potentially dangerous.

Fair cop, "begging the question" was probably a bad example, but for me it's misuse is so rampant that there's just no point trying to fight it. That "could care less" means the opposite of what some people think doesn't really matter. Just because you've happened to notice this one doesn't mean there aren't others that you're guilty of (I'll wager you've never used the word "peruse" correctly, for example). People extrapolate the meaning of words from the way other people use them, not the dictionary definition. Some words and phrases will always be misunderstood and misused - and in general conversation what's so wrong with that anyway?

There is an element of that, for sure, but it goes way beyond that. One example is in episode 7 (I think) where Echo/Caroline There's a few other examples sprinkled throughout the series. I totally agree that there were a lot of missed opportunities. I don't know how much of that was down to studio interference but it's a damn shame either way.

The penultimate episode of Dollhouse was utterly brilliant, easily the best episode of the series. As brkl mentions, an old friend turns up and is a very welcome addition to the cast The final episode, however, was one of the worst. The cringe inducing moments are back, albeit to a lesser extent than some of the earlier episodes, and the anti-intellectual, anti-science themes are back too. It's the latter part that I really take issue with. The notion that ignorance and gut instinct trumps well informed reason has been vaguely simmering throughout the series, coming to the fore every now and then. Looking back it's actually one of the main messages of the show and it makes my blood boil

I don't believe for a second that this is gameplay footage. My bet is this is a short animation, intended for internal use, that conveys the mood and feel of the game - like .I'm not a fan of the new look, but if it's a concession that'll get the game made I can live with it.

Whilst I agree that that would be reasonable, it is sadly not the case. It can be for a bit, but I've been unemployed for nigh on a year now and it gets pretty soul destroying after a while.

Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe
SignorSuperdouche replied to SignorSuperdouche's topic in Movies & Television
I figured it might be something like that, but it's just that I'd never heard it until recently, and now I keep hearing it, so I thought it might be a reference or something. I guess maybe I was just filtering it out before or something. I feel kinda dumb now. -
Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe

Completely off topic, but what's all this "colour me" business about? I've started hearing it all the time in the last year or so, is it from something? -
I'm generally on the "If people understand then that's fine" side of things, I'm not going to complain when someone misuses "begging the question" or says "I could care less", but when it comes to technical terms I think it's important to be technically accurate. Otherwise it will just create more confusion in the long run. Anyway, whatever it is that this is, it looks pretty nice, but the test for me is whether I'm still consciously aware of the stylisation when I've been playing the game for a bit. If I am then it was a bad choice, if I'm not then it's adding to the overall feel of the game subconsciously and was a good move. It's like how the most effective use of music in a film or whatever is the music I'm totally unaware that I'm listening to (in my opinion).

Sounds pretty goddamned awful The best suggestion I can give is get down to your local CAB and see what they say. They might be able to get a letter sent to the council from a law firm, which is often enough to get things sorted on its own.

Idle Thumbs 26: Raising the 'Bargo
SignorSuperdouche replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
For a moment I got really excited thinking that Rebellion were doing a sequel to Rogue Trooper (Which was based on a comic book and is probably the source of Remo's confusion). It's pretty dumb to have two completely unrelated games with such similar titles from the same developer. The boy who cried "SPOILERS!" -
Yeah you could be right, I'll be happy to spend 3 bucks on it to find out. Even if I end up thinking it's rubbish I wouldn't consider it a waste of money.

I completed the demo and I really liked the aesthetics of the game but I found the puzzles really unsatisfying. When I solved a puzzle I didn't feel like I had accomplished anything, I'd just clicked around randomly and then a random thing happened. I suppose for $3 you can't really complain though.

Nonsense, everyone knows that SA stands for special ale.

I have no particular knowledge of mime, but I think it's fair to say that in order to mime well an artist has to have very precise control over their body. These guys do not have that, their limbs are all over the place. I'll bet that this started when they were 8, and they were encouraged by all the grown ups. Now nobody has the heart to tell them that, actually, it was shit and everyone was lying to them before. "Sorry, but actually this is shit. We didn't tell you before because we didn't want to hurt your feelings and we thought you'd grow out of." - IGN.com

It is a fresh indie game so I'd say go for it - if you don't post it I'm sure somebody else will. -
Ah, yes, Braid. I forgot there's a game that you actually do play backwards. That's annoying.

I think it was a joke, as in when you hack into a server in the game you're hacking into a server in real life too. Very cool thread, anyway. I can't think of anything to add to it but I have been reminded of a couple of games I need to play -
Well yes, but it's there to maintain the illusion that the number isn't predetermined.

I went to a Simon Singh lecture once where he did that trick. He did it where you have to pick an animal rather than a fruit though, and then think of the country where that animal lives. Most people will go for kangaroo or koala bear and then Australia. I think revealing that you knew the (first) country was Denmark cheapens the effect - it's better to be as mysterious as possible.
