I'm deffo up for a London meet. I hope that doesn't put anyone off - I'm not such a colossal prick in real life I swear

Great film. I'd heard it was really confusing but when I watched it I thought was pretty easy to follow ... until it got to the end and I realised I hadn't understood anything past the first 20 minutes. I think I understand most of now though.

Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe
SignorSuperdouche replied to SignorSuperdouche's topic in Movies & Television
I guess all interested parties are following Charlie's twitter anyway, but if there's anyone who's not he's just announced Gameswipe will be shown on Tuesday. An interesting note is that it will feature interviews with Rab and Ryan from Consolevania, which is exciting. -

This is both terrifying and retarded. Extremism only ever begets more extremism. -
Agreed to all of these. Also, Grim Fandango.

quaint hacky solutions that we're proud of or amused by

Could someone, in theory, define a funky custom data type where == is calculated with a different level of accuracy than to < or > in UnrealScript? That's the only pitfall I can think of. -

I'm going off the rails on a crazy (hype) train

Well, they are called spoilers. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here, but this thread and Steve's article seem like exercises stating the bleedin' obvious to me. -
I had a quick peruse of that list and there's some awesome stuff in there. If anyone could try these and see what happens I'd love to know what the game does

If you can find a single person who was taken in by Brown's explanation I'll eat my hat. It's intentionally so absurd nobody could believe it - that's the fucking point. I like Walker a lot and usually find his thoughts to be insightful and interesting but he really dropped the ball on this one. I was actually a little crushed when I looked to see who had written this tosh and saw it was him.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I recently picked up the 2CD version of The La's which I've been meaning to do since it came out. It's fucking incredible. Buy it. -
Weekend before last I took a break from indulging the self destructive spiral I love so much to help with this day out type thing for kids with Down's and other disabilities. We had a barbecue and took them out on the Thames - it was pretty cool. To even out this uncharacteristic good deed I repeatedly smashed the kids at connect 4. They were rubbish.

The end of Monkey Island 2, that scared the shit out of me as a kid. -

I tend to take a look at this sort of thing if I'm thinking about picking up a game but I'm not quite sure if it's going to be my sort of thing. Watching 10 - 15 mins of gameplay will often swing it one way or the other for me.

Idle Thumbs PAX 09: Ron Gilbert !!
SignorSuperdouche replied to schepton's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Top notch interview (inbetween all the shit you were chatting ). I think Ron's a really interesting guy but 90% of the interviews with him consist of "Are adventure games dead?" and/or "What killed adventure games?" followed by stock questions about his current game - it's great to come across a more in depth conversation about a relatively wide range of topics. -

Allegedly the Director's Cut is coming out next month. I haven't seen it since it was on the telly so I'm quite looking forward to it.

The first game I remember playing was a sketchy Hansel and Gretel game my Dad bought for our ZX Spectrum. I can't recall much about it (I was too young to really understand what was happening anyway I think) other than the feeling of intense dread I felt when I played it. That was some scary shit.

Idle Thumbs 41: Space Boss: The Lord of Space
SignorSuperdouche replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
My mistake, I mistook LOL ! for LOL RANDOM! and I apologise for my uninformed criticism. The fact remains, though, that the joke is being killed. The article is changing from a page that worked as a coherent whole to an inconsistent patchwork of one-off gags. I mean look at this "improvement" The second sentence now makes no sense whatsoever because, instead of carefully weaving it into their article, the author jammed their joke in like a monkey throwing shit at a wall. I think it's a real shame that someone made something creative which is now being hijacked and run into the ground by others.
