My issues with the multiplayer game was that my character moved at a snails pace, and what has now become the common complaint of this game: it takes too long to kill other players. I also thought the visuals of the game were just not appealing. I dunno, maybe I'll give it another try, I still have the demo installed.

And thus it is born, the triology of Idle Porn: Meet Jake the Rodking Touch Chris' Remote Nick Breckon Be Wreckin' Other People's Wives. Ok, umm, I have nothing to say for myself.

Hey Jezza- some of us Americans are either: a)Anglophiles or not all that lazy. Some of us even value other parts of the world. Just saying

Amazing!

I don't know, but I played the multiplayer demo and decided that not only was the game ugly as a shooter, but not fun.

I can't think of anything to say constructive that would not also ruin the mood... So.... Happy Birthday!

How would this function as a torture device?

I imagine its the same Vizio, these "cheaper" manufacturers I think tend to limit their overall product offerings. I also have found the remote crappy, however once I set the video settings, I only use it for the 360, and I have a seperate sound system so all I press is the power button. So is this like "Jake the RodKing" and thus "Touch Chris' Remote"? Still leaves one out.

I like carpet bombing. Please sir may I have another?

I think I have that same Vizio and use it 3-4 (or more) hours daily for gaming. And love it.

I haven't played this game in a while, and didn't get very far. But I like the ability to run up on an enemy encampment and stab people in the heart. Alot. I also like starting fires.

Yeah... I'm going to need to apparently re-evaluate my thoughts on Blu-Ray. I think my issue with Black Hawk Down (and this would actually apply to the movie irregardless of format) is the aspect ratio does not work well for me. I think that was my main disappointment factor. Also, revising my earlier statement, upon further reading around today it sounds like alot of studios do the remastering needed to get good Blu-Ray editions released. So my interest in Blu-Ray is a little more piqued now.

Horror and surviving, but not survival horror

The whole half-life world scares the crap out of me. I can't finish those games because I just get too scared. -
I could be wrong here (and probably am), but its my general impression that for alot of films, the release to BR is oftentimes not a back to the film release. Its actually my impression that alot of times once a studio sets a film for release, any subsequent "releases" will just use that original release-spec, rather than going back to the film masters. I understand that under a re-mastering, or a going back to the film, one would see a difference from BR as compared to the DVD version, however I've noticed that alot of BR films are just the original DVD edition, maybe scaled down with extra black space for the extra resolution or some other gimmick. Black Hawk Down is a good example of what I think this is. I do own some DVD's that are back to the film re-masterings, but its my impression that the work and money to do this is usually something that is prohibitively expensive. Like I said, maybe I'm wrong, but I just wonder if studios are really going back to the film for these BR re-releases...

So here's a question I was turning over in my head today: What is the first game you remember playing as a kid (or adult if you were a late bloomer to the video game addiction)? So to kick things off, I'll give mine. Now I remember vaguely in pre-school days playing (or trying to) some Sesame Street variant game off a 5 1/4" disk, but not clearly enough for that to really by my first. Plus I was 3 or 4 then. What I do remember is from when I was 7 (had to be because I've fact checked my memories). Sometime around when I was 7 my mom had bought a dell tower, I want to say the model line back then was Optiplex but then again it might have been Precision. Wiki is of no use on Dells this old. It was a first generation 486, I'm pretty sure of that because my mom was all excited that it wasn't a 386. It had Dos and my mom installed about 8-10 games (all the shareware versions though) for me and put a startup batch script on it where when you turned the machine on a menu loaded with numbered options. All I had to do was choose my game and it ran. The game that really defines that time period for me was Wolfenstein 3-D. I remember playing those 9 levels over and over until one day someone told me about the 10th level and I had a whole new reason to play that game. There were other games, but that was really the defining game. What is funny to think about is the game came with a "ratings" warning, it was called PC-13 for blood and violence. I was 7... Anyways, that also leads me to the why I like Dells. In the mid 2000's I got kinda nostalgic about this stuff, and my mom still owned the tower. I plugged it in, found a compatible keyboard and mouse (remember PS/2), hooked up a monitor and voila! It still ran. So at one time, at least, Dells were pretty fucking beast. I think she gave that computer to someone a few years ago who just needed to do really simple stuff. So in theory, that computer has been working for 17-20 years now...

I like it... And Camus. Apparently my philosophy degree comes in handy once in a while. Thanks for the memories! Edit- Oh! I forgot. I like Trials, but on more than one occasion has this game caused me to try to attempt to break furniture. I stopped when my wrist started throbbing from an errant blow to the ottoman.

Idle Thumbs 41: Space Boss: The Lord of Space
jneeriem replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Fair enough. Expect a roll-back on that Joke soon. Other (plural) one-off jokes I still think are funny will remain. Edit: Apparently a reference to the horse-bag and making the paragraphs spell Wizard were also deemed un-funny. Will shut up now. -
Basically. What would be cool is if they designed a game that removed as much "game interface elements" (maps w/GPS, health bars, even character names (until you find them out yourself) as possible, and put that in a western themed game.

Idle Thumbs 41: Space Boss: The Lord of Space

I'm sorry, there's more thought to that specific change than just the juvenile humor of changing names. Explanation: One is to read the gameplay section then go here Thus the joke (Yes, Juvenile) is born. -
Thinking about this a little makes me wonder. What if you did a MMO-style Western. (Don't run away yet) where you had quotas. Like if the game has 2 towns and 1 rebel outpost (I would imagine it would be so much larger in design), you couldn't have just any random number of Farmers or Clint Eastwoods or Marshalls or Sherriffs or Raiders. I would think the regular townspeople would generally be NPC's, but you would obviousy have only 2 sherriffs, 4 deputies, maybe a posse of 4-6 marshalls, many farmers and maybe another 2-3 clint eastwood types and probably about a dozen Raiders. All Player-Characters. If you could design ratios into the population, a MMO-style western would rock pretty hard. At the same time, if you wanted the game to be popular at all you'd need a huge gameworld with lots and lots of instances so that the ratios work out and so that in general each "area" doesn't feel totally unpopulated, but still feels like the West (Kinda spread out). Anyways, a non-magic Western RPG would definitely get a serious consideration from my wallet.

Only if I had indian heritage. I kind of like the Far Cry 2 "stab in the chest" animation. Alot. It umm... Well lets say I'm glad that there's no connection between video games and actual violence.
-
That reminds me of a secondary question. Did you ever get interested in any kind of "development" enough to make a game. I created this game once on a TI-83 where you controlled a random letter and were chased by another letter. I make the other letter "smart" but with randomness... Anywho moving on from that geeky memory...

Just so long as the 2 hit knife kill (1st hit knocks them down, 2nd hit stabs them in the chest) is retained, I'd be VERY excited for that kind of game. Ok Developers, ASSEMBLE!

Idle Thumbs 41: Space Boss: The Lord of Space

I put the link in to create a page for the attachment but really don't have the somethings to put that page together. Not like it'd take a lot of work or convincing on the Wikipedian's part that the page was "real." EDIT- So if someone has/had some sort of Press anything from TOSE (ie letterhead) that would be amazing. Same thing goes for Nintendo.
