Idle Thumbs 104: Emblematic of the Dissonance

I'm not offended. I'm sad and annoyed that a AAA developer I thought was maybe not mostly about turning a profit turned out to be just that. I don't think either read or understood my opinion on artistic integrity or both. I thought the MP was just as stupid in ME3. I don't give a shit about lore. Video games (culture).

Yes. No. No. What has appeal to do with what I'm talking about? The only thought behind CitC is money. "How can we make some quick cash without spending a lot of time or effort? Let's do horde mode from Gears of War!" It's like they are copping onto the idea that their game is an unfocused pretense.
-
Well that one guy telling me to calm down. My text reads very loud and abrasive apparently. My opinion about Infinite is that the ending is extremely lazy from a writing standpoint (almost like a deus ex machina) and it just reeks of "Now we can do whatever we want with DLC because IT DOESN'T MATTER! The Take-Two shareholders are gonna LOVE us!" With the Clash in the Clouds DLC they might as well make a skyhook racing game. It's like if Amnesia had DLC that was all first person platforming.

Your snarky passive-aggressiveness doesn't help you at all. Also is this you?: I can't be passionate about my own opinions and ethics when it comes to artistic integrity and the creative process of making games? No I just need to shut up and be happy that video game development is still hugely about turning a profit.

Oh it's a parallel universe? That's OK then........... Can't wait for Bioshock: Infinite: System Shock Reboot: SWAT 5: Freedom Force vs the 83rd Reich. For people who actually believe Infinite had a good story/writing; With the Clash in the Clouds DLC Irrational just takes a huge shit on them and the game.
-
Hahaha! These announcements just cemented my opinion that Infinite and Irrational for that matter, are just a fucking joke at this point. Around the reveal of Infinite didn't they say that it would have nothing to do with Bio1? When I heard that you visit Rapture and then the laughable ending my first thought was how they were gonna make these creatively bankrupt DLC's and sadly I was right. I wonder how Ken Levine feels about his artistic integrity when shit like this happens to things he envisioned and co-created.

He's my favorite writer of short stories. I have a really tough time finishing books that are over 300 pages so even anthologies of his works are great for someone like me. Why I love Lovecraft's writing is because I think he's just as descriptive as someone like Tolkien or G.R.R. Martin but he's waaay more concise. The last time I read one of his stories was like four years ago sadly and that was The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath. Not very scary per se but definitely one of his weirder works. It's apparently not held in such high regards as some of his other stuff but I thought it was great.

That's the thing with SS as a series. It's NOT just a Doom clone. It WAS a Doom clone when the first one came out because it aped different things from the most popular FPS games at the time but without the super serious aesthetics. In BFE those things you mention are just there without the game pointing it out every 10 mins, because self-awareness! *cough* DNF and Matt Hazard *cough*. That is why I believe BFE is one of the best examples of satire in games. To the point that even people I thought were pretty smart (Certain unnamed Giantbomb staffers) having the point COMPLETELY fly over their heads.

FUCK YOU TOM NOOK Backstory:

I'm glad new iterations of Civ continue the tradition of trolling Nick.

I'm at a loss for words.

Just finished Thief Gold. Had no idea how scary and creepy a lot of the game is. Great level design. Zombies are awful. Had quite a lot of moments that made it feel like a proto-Amnesia. Gonna play Thief 2 now.

Oh god... http://sneakybastards.net/theobserver/thief-hands-on/ Stephane Frenchguy, proving that you can land a high level job in the video game industry by just blindly aping other popular games.

Idle Thumbs 111: Cruisin' for a Word that Rhymes With Cruisin'
Roswell47 replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
People can do whatever the fuck they want with their own stuff and no one is forcing you to shell out the dough so I don't see any ACTUAL problems. -

It's funny that you say "Dishonored clone" because Dishonored is a spiritual sequel to Thief (made by some ex-Looking Glass people)

Idle Thumbs 110: The Thing That You Needed To Say

You guys talking about Brink sounds almost exactly like Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, which I loved. Made by Splash Damage too, so that sucks for them. -

That "Dead Jake" email together with it being a Jake, Chris and Nick cast made this episode really sound like one from the original run. Also on the topic of cool effects in video games. Check out Memories of a Broken Dimension: http://datatragedy.com/MOABD_PrinceOfArcade.zip (PC) That thing is CRAZY. It's pretty much all of the effects. -
I haven't played Myst but I've heard from others who've played Kairo that they share similarities. I have played Kairo though and I liked it for the most part.

It's so hard I wanna cry T_T 4 hours in. The narrative is pretty baffling imo.

This is like that guy who wrote in to the original podcast dissecting everyone on it in an accurate and funny way but this is not accurate nor funny.
