I'm a little thrown off by the lack of inventory and weapon adjustments/overheating from the first game. While I agree that the way it was handeled in ME1 was a bit confusing, it kind of seems like it's been thrown out the window... it feels a little less like an rpg now. This is super nitpicky about the first half hour and my memory is poor from the first one but...

Well, I think I just "broke" the game, so that's awesome. I died, it said resume, so I pressed something, and I got to watch my corpse watch my team mates die, then I'm just watching my corpse. Oddly enough I haven't figured out how to save, so surely there must be an autosave function, I mean they improved everything else; right? Well, theres not a single save on my profile; so wtf do I do? Is this a planned feature of watching your corpse; is it supposed to bring up another menu? Can I bring up that menu again? I have no idea, no info in the book. edit: I guess the no saving thing is a bug, awesome, well I guess I get to experience those 4-6 hours again some other day. I'm a pretty die hard ME fan so it's no big deal, but it does kind of suck. ps: dissapointed with change of music as well.

False alarm, false alarm! I guess they stuck the start in at the last minute or something because there was no voice for my choices until I got passed it. edit: Awesome.
-
Ten seconds in and the three voice commands I chose shepherd was mute... dragon age lameness strikes again? But why there are only two voices they needed this time; maybe don't hire a sheen and I can get my god damn voice back.

I've really dislike Richies last couple movies that I had seen and at one point in life my mind just switched off from like jude law; but I took the chance to see it after a friend said it was alright and I really enjoyed it. I'm no huge sherlock holmes fan, so I can see how it may piss off actual fans, but I really liked this take on it more then the original. To me, they retained his character, only took a realistic approach to it, where anyone that insightful would be a socially maladjusted. I liked old timey london, the themes of logic vs magic, and the mild commentary on using fear for control. The set up was a little dark knightish, actually, which isn't really a bad thing. The only thing I have to say against it is the over use of underbudgeted cg near the end; I know it's hard to keep it authenthic considering the period, but they really didn't have to do this huge epic, cartoonish ending where everything had to be on a greenscreen.

Yep, I've played that, it was neat; I liked the mirrors edge flash game more though. Update: So on my way home I figured I'd see if anyone would sell it to me, I mean futureshop is selling it at midnight(in 6 hours) so what's the big deal. My best bet was some local french store, I mean why would they give a shit? Laize faire my ass, wouldn't do it. Just going to skip work tommorrow.

Sorry, I was curious more about how your queued something up on your xbox(or pc?) from your iphone? Because it sounds like that could be something useful I could use my unused iphone for
-
I'm really curious as to how this was possible, hehe. Yeah i got the msg last night while sleeping and decided not to care; doesn't this stuff come with the purchase anyway now? I'm confused about the whole thing; kind of like with the DA stuff where I got the regular game, but then got a bunch of dlc regardless.
-
Yeah, they did that with DA and my experience with it was written above, so really it doesn't factor for me.
-
Really though, free armor or weapons in a game like Mass Effect makes zerod ifference to me. It's not what the game I play is about, so I don't care. If it was quests, npcs, party members they you're giving me something; but really to do this properly would be pretty difficult and costly... flash to DA with their added party member that I eventually broke that would cause me to get exported into the sky box.

I had AVG and then tried Bit Defender, so my problems weren't from the antivirus; it just happened to stop when I un-installed it, after doing the third system install. So it's all coincidental, install win 7, some time after things went to shit, cleaned out system, still happened, cleaned out system, still happened, un-installed antivirus, it works. So not bad mouthing the antivirus, because it happened on two different ones, had the steam folder excluded too.
-
Cant find the turbo button, guess I didn't get the turbo edition Anyway, didn't see anything odd in the bios, but after looking I decided to take out the antivirus since I was on a trail version with it(testing somethign new) and everything magically works! Yeah, don't get it, getting good frames in tf2 again, so not sure whats up, maybe just looking at the bios worked? who knows. Everything works, I don't know why it didn't, I don't know why it is working now; so yeah, fuck pc gaming.
-
Cool, thanks for the calculator. Yeah I dunno is then, 3 fresh installs, two different OS's, it's the hardware alright, but no idea what would cause it. I was getting a lot of bluescreens with Windows 7 and then they suddenly stopped... and thats when everything started to slow down. I'll check out the bios settings, maybe that explains it; thanks!
-
Well, I'm back on XP and guess what? Turns out it wasn't Windows 7 shitting on my hardware, I get an awesome 3fps in TF2 on XP now too! So big coincidence that right around the time I install Windows 7 something just decided to give up? Guess so. So now I get to go one by one and wonder what's crapping up the performance... video card I guess? Who knows! I heard a rumor way back like a decade ago that I'll repeat and if anyone wants to jump in to confirm or deny; but maybe it's the power supply being too weak? Would that slow my computer down? I just figured it would power off. Because aside from that, I guess it could be the video card, and if it isn't that, the cpu; all of this stuff is pretty expensive and I really don't have the will or money to pay for any of it right now. So glad I stuck with mass effect 1 on xbox so I can continue the sequel on it, if it wasn't I'd probably be going ape shit right around now and going in debt to get a new computer by Tuesday.

6 days and I think I may have an ulcer by the weekend. I know Bioware's track record and what they did with that abysmal premise of Dragon Age is nothing short of amazing, but holy shit am I worried.... just let it at least be good as the first, that's all I"m asking.
-
Well every 3d ap went to 1-5fps max, no clue why, maybe my video card took a dive, maybe its the power supply, I have no idea. Tried reinstalling win 7 again and while this time went smoother, I still said I never wanted to touch another computer again. Anyway, will see when i get home if I can continue playing. Until then I started up uncharted 2 as it was sitting there for awhile and turned it off when the first two fucks I meet are literally alistar(had to check imdb to see if I was going nuts) and morrigan from dragon age. It's just not the right time to spend more time with those people.

skipping the ending posts.... hehehe. Anyway, still playing at work(home pc is dead, thanks whatever fucked up) and decided to listen to podcasts while playing(I never listen to anything in a game, but for some reason farcry 2 seemed like a neat idea to have an ipod with me) and it might be a little bizarre when the thumbs start talking about farcry 2 while I'm in a fire fight. If only this was in game and I could pause the cast, instead they are always talking about interesting things at the worst time so I think to myself "Shut up Jake, I need to focus here or they're going to kill me!" edit: On the pcgamer cast with chris... he successfully snuck in a farcry 2 talk in this one too.
-
In what way? Tech/performance, probably not, story/characters I'd say yeah... maybe even gameplay, but I didn't sit through Crysis for very long.
-
My joke aside; yeah fuck PC gaming. After updating my OS after a decade I can't seem to play my favorite game with anything higher then 25fps(TF2) and just tried L4D1 at about 10fps. No idea what it is, going to wipe it and go back to xp I guess, so Im annoyed at PC gaming right now too.
-
I think at this point there's a race against time for my soul; Bioware vs EA Marketing. Bioware for, hopefully, making an awesome sequel to my favorite game and EA marketing for, as much as I try to ignore, is getting hard and making me want to hang myself with solidified tears because they are pimping tits and ass for fucking mass effect.

Apparently the guys that founded turtle rock, because they actually don't work for valve, they decided they wanted to stay in LA(or whereever they are in california) and work in their own studio. Just thought that was a funny tidbit, I probably heard it on the thumbcast. edit: Had to make sure i didn't dream that, chris posted it on gamasutra: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23913

I'm going to point my stupidity out, though hopefully I'm not the only one, but I was reading your description and was like "What? Really? Wow, that is totally not what I saw in screenshots, why were they hiding these things?!" I thought you were talking about the one with the rocketeer in a void, dark void. So in short, developers, combine the void and dark void to make void: dark void and i'll check it out.

Still playing... have a couple gripes but its minor(saving/autosave) I'm really just f@#$ing around in it, the jackal doesn't really interest me(unless I was to become him, and I can't) It's weird, if i just screw around in GTA its fun, I turn it off, but I'm screwing around in this, wanting to save it and feel like I acomplished something... that's pretty neat. I'm playing at work and we did a side by side of Crysis(I didn't like that game... like at all) and I was realyl imrpessed with farcry 2 when it was released and when I'm playing it looks nice enough, but man, Crysis holds up, Farcry not so much. Yeah yeah, it was geared to the console crowd, everything is fine, just saying, i didn't realize the differences were so far apart at the time. *** Oh and about ol' Hock and Sock(I will slip this in and call him this if I ever get the balls to go up and say Hi) But enjoying my new found city/job I sat in on a presentation I'm sure hes bound to do at GDC or something; he said he was touring universities with it. The title was: Territory is Not the Map : Hyper Realism and the Immersive Paradigm. I can't say too much about it, because it wasn't really what i thought it was going to be, but it was interesting. I took notes and I get sort of what he was talking about, but there wasn't a conclusion to it, he even stated it himself. I think he's onto this really big ideal, just hasn't gotten a hold of anything solid yet and is doing the presentation to help work things out. To sum it up, hes talking about games interacting with each other, the player, the real world, clouds, and just the immersiveness that could be had with that. Either way, the title sounded cool.

Whatever happened to his movie career? (not a jibe, I was just wondering because I was mildly excited for it, I loved the oddworld universe)
-
Alright, I'm all caught up on my 2009 movies now and honestly, what a weird god damn year. My top picks are ones that broke pacing convetions and were pretty ambigiously subtle tones. Not only that, but my favorite animated movies were lower budget claymation things that didn't actually have awesome animation in them; they just beat the shit out of pixar (the only real contender for making an actual movie in 3d) in terms of pacing/editing, story, creativity, and overall experience. What a weird year that was. Oh yeah, and if it hasn't been said, Fantasitc Mr.Fox was pretty damn fun.
