*ripped out of context*This doesn't work for me at allI write at a glacial pace, but type with the speed of a hurricane. I frequently have trouble keeping up with the pace of what the teachers saying with my note-taking. Sadly, I can't use a laptop, because my current laptop was found in a dumpster, and I have to tape the battery in to keep it from falling out.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

If I could return to New Villager for a second, I've found some videos on the Tube of them performing a bunch of new songs live, but they aren't on iTunes or any of the digital download services. Is this a UK thing? Because if their album is already out there, I'm so jealous. -
Whoa, I had not heard of this. Link, please?

Arrrrrgh! Spoiler! You ruined the ending, and now I hate you! I have made a song about hating you! That is how much I hate you! http://tindeck.com/listen/bxwm

The game actually has a damn good soundtrack. "The Woods And The Goddess" is a beautiful song. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17YzW3676KA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17YzW3676KA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Also, the P4 endurance run is infuriating for me, as well as being hilarious. "VINNY, YOU MORON!!! BUY NEW EQUIPMENT, DAMNNIT!"

Well, the catch there is that I don't have $400.

If you play the Machinefabirek song, and the dubstep song at the same time, it actually sounds really good, amusingly. -
I'm wondering, what the hell does Chris say at about 3:00 into Episode 30? It sounds like "E SURE IS COURT THY PRINT!!" *everyone laughs* "Fuck youuuu..."

I loved how this topic turned into musing on how fucked you are if you enter the video game industry to naming good video game soundtracks. Perhaps that's for the best, though. -

It's frustrating, because all the artists I actually like either tour in the UK, or in places that aren't remotely close to where I live. -
"Howdy-ho, Stalker!" "Drop by sometimes! It can be fun around here!" I've been having a lot of fun with COP. It's actually been way easier then the previous games for me, it seems like I always have more ammo and medicine then I'll ever need. It's still a damn good time, though. Great soundtrack, too. I also enjoy how guns are almost always referred to as "shooters".

Little man? That's like an Arnold Schwarzenegger moment. "YOU LEETLE MAAHN!"

Believe it or not, Super Smash Brothers Brawl actually has an awesome soundtrack, it's just that you can never hear it over the combat barks. DOW2 also has a good soundtrack, but it's in the same situation where you can't hear it over the "BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAM! RAIN FIRE UPON US AND WE SHALL RETURN--BOOM!!!!" S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat had a great atmospheric soundtrack. Not in-your-face, but excellent nonetheless. My soundtrack pessimism is dissipated. -

YESSSSSSSAwright. If you're into electronica or dance music, you've probably heard the biggies in the genre; The Prodigy, Orbital, Phillip Glass (ugh). Or, perhaps the more obscure, like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada. So I'm going to try to shine a bit of light on the lesser-known artists out there. I'll start with New Villager. A electronic duo, they entered the music scene only recently, and have only released a single. However, their premiere song, Rich Doors, is unlike anything I've ever heard. I'm not even sure what genre it is. All I know is that it's one of the most well-composed and well-produced songs I've ever heard. Their other song, Genghis on, is a bit more conventional. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO4kllpegGc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO4kllpegGc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Next up is the Hip-Hop Mux Mool. Low budget, and lo-fi, his subwoofer-pounding songs have a homespun flavor all their own. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=979UKvC8BWY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=979UKvC8BWY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Finally, there's Working For A Nuclear Free City (yes, that's their name). Their music, especially their synth work, sounds like it's been run through degrading equipment while recording to a malfunctioning 8-track. It's a unique sound. Plus, they did some of the soundtrack to Infamous, making them even more topical! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY7_hUKW5pc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY7_hUKW5pc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Amon Tobin also contributed to the soundtrack, and I'd recommend him too, but this post is too long already. It's worrying how much I sound like a pretentious music critic when I'm talking about music. -

Well, I should have prefaced that with the fact that I can't play all that many games, due to having a net income of about $10. I'm curious, what soundtracks stand out to you? I'm really curious. Now that I'm thinking about it... NOBY NOBY BOY! Although that's one song. -

...Man, I was thinking of posting something, but all this rock is completely opposed to the sea of electronica I swim in. So maybe I'll just hold off. -

It's always depressing when you post in a thread, then realize that that thread has been dead for a while now.

Well, as far as population, I live in a fairly busy area. In terms of things I'm interested in, like video games and tabletop roleplaying games, I'm in the middle of goddamn nowhere. Yes, I'm a bit bitter about that. You do have a point about the originality of video game soundtracks. All the interesting soundtracks I can remember are from things like American McGee's Alice, and Deus Ex, which both had excellent soundtracks. Deadly Premonition sort of counts, just because the soundtrack is so quirky. Yeah, as far as I remember, no game in the last 5 years has had a soundtrack that stood out, which as a music nerd, is really depressing. Although Overgrowth sounds like it has a good one. -

Well, hopefully it will help that I have a pretty strong resume, including part of a soundtrack for an actual video game project that fell through, and about 90 songs, 30 of which aren't even on the interwebs yet. -
Uh, this probably makes me an ignorant idiot, but who is Ronnie James Dio?
