  1. New people: Read this, say hi.

Ohhhhhhh, so there IS an "introduce yourself" thread... Jeez, I thought it would have been in the general forums... ah well. HI! I already basically introduced myself in the Life thread, but Ima copy paste parts of that here. Well, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring and say that this is as good of place as any to really introduce myself. New to the forums and podcast. The name's Eric. I love gaming and music. Two of my favorite hobbies and passions. I'm a guitarist and play in a band. We're hoping we can get it to pan out. A friend of mine, also a new member of the forums (rueler), got me to listen to the podcast. I started on IT's comeback episode (probably going to go back and listen to older ones eventually.) and I already love the show to death. I'm also into pretty much all nerdy/cool things under the sun. I love table top gaming. Nothing beats sitting around saying utter nonsense and making dumb inside jokes with a bunch of good friends. I've gotta say, I love the forums. You guys all seem like good people. I looked through the music thread and absolutely loved it. Same with the books and movies threads. I'm finding this seems like my kind of place. I just wish I had a better computer so I could run more PC games. My good one got fried a while ago and haven't been in the financial position to really splurge on a good PC. But still really glad to be here. When I finally go get a good one, I have a huge group I can potentially play with.

As far as life goes: It's... going. I'm a high school graduate who hasn't had the money to get into college. The main hurdle is, I don't have a car. :/ So I've been working weekends at a mobile vet clinic doing some pen pushing. It's easy work, just really busy and can get stressful when you have a lot (read: too many) people in line giving you that "This shit's unorganized! >:[" look. But I'm working my ass off to get out of a rut. I mean, I sound like a sad sappy sucker, but I still find time to have some fun though. I'm going to try to go to Lollapalooza this year in Chicago. Saw that The Arcade Fire and Them Crooked Vultures were going to be there and I about lost it. Rumor has it that Soundgarden might have their comeback concert there too. I've gotta say, I love the forums. You guys all seem like good people. I looked through the music thread and absolutely loved it. Same with the books and movies threads. 3. Books, books, books...

I'm currently reading After Dark by Haruki Marakami. It's pretty good. I'm about 100 pages in. Lots of philosophy. Pretty neat story about night life in Japan. I was going to read either 1 of the following Jane Austin bastardizations next. Mr. Darcy Vampyre or the instant classic Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.[/b] I read the first few pages for a kick when I got it. Not gonna lie... first line made me laugh pretty hard. Also have a really interesting one I was thinking about reading next called The Meaning of Night. Victorian era serial murder story. From the murderer's perspective. Sounds neat. That's my bands singer and myself's favorite book. Enjoy that. It's a fun read.
  4. Portal ARG?

It actually did get updated recently. Holiday release date. This was awesome. I can't wait to get that issue of GI in the mail. But I do agree, I was expecting something at GDC to be announced.
  5. Decided to join the forums because of this podcast! YAY!
  6. Comics

I'm bit of a super hero guy and have been disappointed by most of Marvels main line continuity offerings lately. Crazy universe spanning even after another since Civil War started. No down time. Got on my nerves, and I just wasn't fond of how it was playing out as a whole. So I looked into reading some DC stuff after 52 and Final Crisis ended. I decided to jump into Geoff John's highly acclaimed run on Green Lantern, and I've gotta say, that's some kick ass stuff. I suggest starting with Green Lantern: Secret Origin and Green Lantern: Rebirth. A lot of stuff in Rebirth went over my head too, but if you roll with it, you'll eventually understand what's up with it. And usually John's does a great job of summing up whatever craziness you're looking at if you need help. I'm not gonna lie, I was never a big Green Lantern fan before I read Secret Origins and Rebirth, but now I'm hooked, and have read everything GL related from Rebirth to Blackest Night. It's quite an epic build up. The pay off has been skirting between being great to mild, but last issue of Blackest Night is next month. I have faith in Johns to bring it back around. And if anyone hasn't read The Walking Dead yet, get cracking. That's a great character driven story. Probably the best comic Image has ever put out, and will ever put out. The zombies? Yeah. Okay. Whatever. They're neat too. But the crazy twists and turns that the story takes is the real attraction. The trade paper backs are pretty cheap too. You can get them off of Amazon for a reasonable price. Also: first post. Glad to be a member of the Idle Thumbs forums. A friend got me listening to the podcast just 2 days ago, listened to tonights podcast, heard that there were forums full of friendly folk and thought "Why not? I'll go ahead and join."
