That is awesome. My buddy and I just finished tuning up his Yamaha RD400 ('72 I think?) and it is a fun 2-stroke. They don't make anything like it anymore, obviously, and seems like it would be a worthy candidate if you could find one that needed a little love.

Correct! They are coming out in batches. We're sending by tier and starting with just one to make sure nothing squirrely happens. Kickstarter doesn't really give you a preview of the survey or let you know how the info is aggregated so we didnt want to screw up all of the surveys in one fell swoop. The rest will be on their way!

Sending out the Backer survey shortly!

Oof.

Oh man, look what happened last night.

I'm in the process (slooooow process, probably won't be til fall) of tracking down a bike for longer rides. I have a buddy who has a Ducati Gt 1000 SportClassic which is a fantastic bike but hard to find and pricey. Thinking about maybe a Bonnie or an older BMW (70's toaster tank). Seeing your bike all loaded up for a big trip makes me want to do it NOW though

What do you guys ride? I am flossing a 1984 Honda Ascot VT500. Looks like a Bonneville up there?

OH MAN I AM HERE AND WILL ALWAYS BE HERE I think this should definitely be the web's home for rad geek motorcycle talk. Moto photo forthcoming.

Well done, you.

Jake has managed to fidget his way out of all on-camera Walking Dead press commitments, which is a pretty incredible feat.

FIRST. Well not first. But oh man.

The Idle Book Club 1: The Sense of an Ending
Sean replied to Chris's topic in Idle Book Club Episodes
Our plan is to bring everything back at the same time and we want the new site to be hearty enough to be around for a long-time without any future redesigns -- and then we'll drop new full eps, the book-cast and any other crazy shit we're including all at the same time (that's when 3MA will make it's migration as well). So, don't worry -- it's coming -- we just don't want to half ass it. -
The Idle Book Club 1: The Sense of an Ending
Sean replied to Chris's topic in Idle Book Club Episodes
Chris and I were hanging out when he tweeted that article berating adults for reading adult fiction and it's worth pointing out that Chris and I (and I won't speak for Jake) differ on the value of reading a literary/young adult/genre fic quite a bit but feel like we're pretty in line for the intent of the Book Cast -- a way for you guys AND the three of us to read and discover new things that someone on our side of the fence has deemed worthy of your time (which is exactly what we do with games). And while we'll be reading and discussing a single book each week (and the suggestion concerning format by Xeneth above is a good one) our plan right now is to cycle through the members of the cast getting to pick a book each month. Chris has chosen The Sense of an Ending but Jake or I will be picking the next book and so-on. I think that will yield lots of different types of literary fiction -- I can easily foresee Jake or I picking a book that is more genre-fic (like, say, The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler) and Chris or someone else being put-off by its genre-ficki-ness. That will still result in fantastic discussion about the literary methods used, the characters, etc, but one of us will probably call Chris an elitist douce, he will cop to it, and the conversation will continue. I don't have the same knee-jerk reaction to books like The Hunger Games as Chris does, but I also don't think it would be that interesting of an endeavor to bring it (or books like it) to the cast. My whole family read the Harry Potter books. I grew up reading a lot of pulp fiction and found literature on my own -- and generally eschew dismissing lighter fic fare because of that. The book cast will be about exploration and newness for everyone, so expect a lot of things flying in from left field. -
Three Moves Ahead joins Idle Thumbs

Chris pointed me to the Religion episode last week and it's fantastic. -
I don't think so. It's hosted on twitch.tv as a part of their service.

Three Moves Ahead joins Idle Thumbs
Sean replied to Roderick's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Great question. We're going to be hosting 3MA and when the site relaunches they'll have their own dedicated show page designed by us (which is a statement that will actually make sense when you see the new site). Basically, think of what we have now but with a flexible enough design to support things like the Book Cast and, now, Three Moves Ahead. Rob and Troy own and will continue to own their cast and Chris, Jake and I will digest their content the same way we always have -- when it hits the RSS feed. We just want to give them a home where they don't have to worry about community infrastructure and hosting costs because we're big fans and feel like our podcasts are wonderful compliments to each other. Hopefully you all agree! -
Correct!

IDLE THUMBS: A Retrospective In Triple A
Sean replied to Roderick's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, great job. This is a fantastic read. -
Hey, I know I certainly didn't mean to come across as abusive - and we are incredibly grateful all of the support. I keep saying my mind is blown because I don't know any other cliche thing to say.
-
it looks like you are due a screening of weekend at bernies two then.
-
Yeah, man. Even the "Progresscast: The Second One" where we had two glasses of champagne EACH and were drunk with power/exhaustion started to wonder into a un-entertaining place. I will talk about delicious liquor ON the cast but we've found that booze and pods make fickle bedfellows. You usually end up with a headache and a mistake. The more you know

Thanks! This Kickstarter really has surpassed any expectations we could've ever had. We thought we would hit 30 if we really pushed for four weeks. Now that we're here, we are a little bewildered. But, after about five looping minutes of saying HOLY SHIT to each other, we've sobered up and realized you guys have given us the freedom to do some really special stuff in the coming months and years. In an original cut of the KS video we said something like "we think we can make thumbs as big and as special as our readers will let us," and that rings true one week into this thing. The word "grateful" barely describes how we feel about the support you guys have given us; now our mission is to make sure you feel like you've invested in something remarkable. THANKS!
