  1. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, I'm with Gaizokubanou. Those kinds of review events are shitty, but I very much doubt they're entirely responsible for the scores. I haven't even finished the game yet and it's probably the most fun I've had with a game this year. If I get to the "end" (whichever ending I actually make it to, since I hear there are a few) and find it disappointing that'll be a shame, but it doesn't stop the game from having been excellent so far.
  2. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Those enemies are definitely the source of the most unenjoyable frustration I've had in the game so far. Luckily they haven't featured much, but I'm concerned that as I get to the later parts of the game they'll start showing up more often.
  3. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

How can you get anything done wearing Battle Dress? It is so clanky I feel like I can't stealth at all in it.
  4. Pokemon GO

I actually laughed out loud at the ending of that trailer, so Pokemon Go had already given me more than any of the games since Yellow.
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

You were not. I thought he looked and sounded ridiculous when he was trying to be the archetypal Kingsman at the end. Particularly when he attempts to replicate the "manners maketh man" scene that Colin Firth did so well - he genuinely looked like a kid playing in his dad's clothes, and the words were utterly uncreditable coming from his voice and accent.
  6. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Well yeah, once you get to the point in a mission that you know you're not going to get more than an A rank you might as well. Which actually feels kind of realistic - if everything's going perfectly there's no reason to expend a bunch of resources. But if you're threatened, call in the artillery. Just like the big boys!
  7. Grand ThVmb Auto PC

Well if there's space in the crew I'm in GTA right now.
  8. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Worth noting that there's a difference between STUN weapons and ZZZ weapons (as there is a difference between enemies who are in the STUN state, the ZZZ state and the --- state). Some kinds of STUN also last longer than others.
  9. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I actually don't like the Walker at all. It's very difficult to use any kind of stealth with it and its movement is sort of loose, making it hard to be precise. Even in a firefight the minigun is not that much more effective than an assault rifle, and not being able to be in cover actually tends to make me easier to kill. So unless there are some really powerful upgrades later on I don't see myself using it.
  10. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

Yeah, I'm trying to give Quiet the time of day for variety, but D-Dog is so absurdly worthwhile. Frankly he mostly kills targets I want dead better than Quiet too.
  11. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

My emblem stands for "Zero Deaths", a motto that has been with me through several LOMAs and such for years.
  12. The threat of Big Dog

First they came for the starfish, and I did not speak out...
  13. On the character selection screen if you mouse over a hero it'll give an estimated difficulty. As for actual suggestions, Raynor's a pretty straightforward assassin, while for support... Li Li perhaps?
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, I watched it and mostly enjoyed it. Though the fact that the daft human family helped save everything in the end was kind of strange and twee to me.
  15. Diablo III BattleTags

Yeah apparently you get a sweet horse in Heroes of the Storm if you hit level 70 with a seasonal hero in Diablo, so I'm going to be playing this one. It starts on Friday, right? Just have to pick a class.
  16. Grand ThVmb Auto PC

I have only done the 2-man heist and Prison Break, and would quite like to do any of the others!
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

Well now I want a Mars bar, dammit.
  18. I thought the Zip drive took over the 5.25" drive slot? Maybe I just think that because in my computer it physically did. Anyway, Windows 10 still believes in floppies and won't be persuaded otherwise. Be warned.
  19. Warning for any people using secondary hard drives: don't mount on A: or B:! I mounted my secondary hard drive on B: because I was like "fuck zip drives, I'm reclaiming these letters!" - Windows was not as passionate about this as me, and apparently even in Windows 10 still has a bunch of legacy behaviours associated with those initial two drive letters. It refuses to index files on those drives, and in a bizarre move won't allow searches in libraries (Documents, Videos, Pictures, etc.) unless they're indexed, so it wouldn't search any of my stuff. It also seemingly made the start menu act sort of weird and janky in some ways. I've now remounted that drive onto F: and it's solved a bunch of problems, but I did have to mass edit registry entries for B: to F: and change a bunch of desktop and Start Menu shortcuts, as well as where Steam and Battle.net think my games are. Hopefully this is the end of the problem, but I would not be surprised if several more programs kick up a fuss about suddenly being on a different drive path than they expected to be.
  20. Mr. Robutt

For the record, if you're looking for some Americans podcast action you could do worse than the Americans Slate TV Insider podcast. It's obviously not as critical as the Thumbs' stuff because it's mostly made by people who work on the show, but hearing the behind the scenes stories and perspectives of the cast and crew is neat.
  21. Doctor me up, Thumbs

"Hey, we think you might be allergic to gluten. EAT AS MUCH GLUTEN AS POSSIBLE." Curious medical advice.
  22. Town of Salem

Town of Salem is a browser based variant on the Werewolf or Mafia party games. It also has a Steam version, which I believe gets you some cosmetic items. If you've never played Werewolf or Mafia, the basic concept is that everyone in the game is secretly assigned a role. Some will be members of the town, others will be members of the mafia, others will be neutral actors. The challenge of the game is to figure out who is on your side and who is not before everyone gets killed. The "gameplay" is very simple, it's mostly a game about psychology and observation. Thanks to dibs, I am thoroughly addicted to it right now and looking for Thumbs to go into games with (or even make our own game if there are enough of us!) to add the spice of knowing the people I'm lying to as I plan to murder them in the night. Check it out! I am Gwardinen in the game so send me friend requests there, and/or hit me up on Steam if you want to coordinate a game. I would also certainly be grateful if you listed me as your reference! After all, who doesn't love free hats?
  23. Town of Salem

I've found this page on the wiki to be very helpful as a reference to roles, what they can do and a few good starting tactics for them. That said, SuperBiasedMan is right. You should try to accept in your first few games that 1) you will not play particularly well and 2) even if you did, there are 14 other people acting at slightly cross purposes from you. Of course it's still nowhere near the learning curve that many games played around here have. Don't harbour Dota-level fears. I've been playing for two days and I'm already pretty comfortable in normal, and not entirely uncomfortable in custom.
  24. Town of Salem

Like I said, I think that's for cosmetics. I've played the browser version, not Steam (I think the servers are the same, though) and haven't bought anything myself so I can't speak to that side.
