The panel's inability to understand how the game tries to straddle the fine line between innovation and familiarity is impressive, especially given how deep they are into the strategy genre. Civ VII needs improvements when it comes to the interface and the end of the era crisis system but the rest of the game manages to shake up a classic formula in interesting ways while making it actually exciting to move through the eras and making it easier for computer-controlled factions to compete, if somewhat artificially.

I don't know if I've ever seen the reactions to a main Civ game be so divisive, even more so than 5, which kinda makes me interested in playing it and seeing what happened.
