Kolzig Posted April 7, 2005 www.tombraider.com Note, smaller breasts. The developers must compensate the loss by making the clothes even smaller and tighter than before. Well, it's a franchise that's lived longer than it should. But it could still be a good game, because Toby Gard is making it.

Jake Posted April 7, 2005 She still has alien head but if they made it too realistic she would probably become off-puttingly mask-like
Roderick Posted April 7, 2005 She still has nice legs. Always been the best part of the Tomb Raider. Otherwise I still don't give a dime about it.
Nick Posted April 7, 2005 She has slightly less of a horse face now though

Actually, Toby Gard is just there for the character design. He came in late on the game's development. In any event, I'd like this to not suck. Tomb Raider was a good franchise once, before it was run into the ground. A cool next-gen Tomb Raider could rock. ...or completely suck.
lailoken Posted April 7, 2005 yeah, that's what is great about a franchise like Tomb Raider, I guess any one of us could dream up really interesting ideas for a tomb raider game. I always thought it would be nice to have better puzzles and characters for such a mainstream game. but I guess they will play it pretty safe, given the risk involved in possibly ruining a name like this (that would be where they would be wrong). I mean that is what they will probably be thinking. By now I think they really need to take risks for this baby to fly...
Lechimp Posted April 7, 2005 At least the model doesn't look like it's from 1996, not that I ever cared about the series though.

netmonkey Posted April 7, 2005 Redwall said: Is it just not possible to create a realistic female? Not if you've never seen one up close and personal, like the members of the Lara Croft/Tomb Raider/Core Design team. The good news is that she still looks like she's ready for having her tomb raided instead of raiding a real tomb. (Trust me, you rather have that bad pun I wrote instead of the original version of the sentence I wrote, which I thought it was a bit too... graphical.) Also, why would any girl wear a shirt that ugly? It's almost like a shirt lifting itself up. Or maybe the modeler(s) had a hard time getting it right while having one of their hands stuck inside each other's pants.
Simon Posted April 7, 2005 The face looks fine, but seeing the waist/shirt now, there is something up with the 'ready-to-snap' thinning anatomy, and that tapering top creates an odd illusion. It is a big improvement on the alien Lara of past games, but still, this is just one part of a massive kick up the ass that the series needs. The basic concept of Tomb Raider is not inherently sucky. Another game in the series always has some kind of potential, it's just that the execution beyond the first few left a lot to be desired. Just have to wait and see. Thrik Posted April 7, 2005 Nick said: But you can see those in real life, so what would be the point? Indeed. I don't think the point with Lara is to create a photo realistic woman. As far as characters go, I think Lara looks far better than her earlier renditions.
SiN Posted April 7, 2005 yep, i quite like the look. it looks slightly more realistic than her previous iterations, but it still retains that great cartoony look, and avoids looking hyper-realistic. also, her breasts dont look over-the-top-huge which is a good thing. i have yet to play a tomb raider game, but if CD pull this off right, i'll prolly end up getting it. i've been meaning to play a TR game, but i missed the boat on the first three, and since the series has been going down-hill since, i didnt feel the need to pick any of em up. I'm hoping this game will change that. SiN

I like the whole ensemble, actually. It's a lot better than that laughably awful teal thing she was wearing before.

Jade, for all her other positive qualities, still suffered from Barbie-waist. I ain't knocking it (I don't play these games because I care about such things -- that goes for both sexes), I'm just saying that calling Jade "realistic" because she has a smaller-than-average bust size for a video game character isn't particularly accurate. lailoken Posted April 7, 2005 actually I always thought the controls for the game sucked major ass, but then again I never liked running around 3d environs without a ready mouse at my command
Thrik Posted April 7, 2005 Yes, the whole tit thing is good too. It looks like they've made some considerable efforts to make her look a bit more like a likable female character that looks pretty, rather than a blatantly for-men big-breasted bimbo with that typical porn start look. Redwall Posted April 7, 2005 I wouldn't even mind the odd proportions if they would just give them some decent clothes. (And yeah, I was thinking about Jade when I posted that. She's closer, but there's still work to be done.)
