Kolzig Posted April 13, 2005 http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=0&cId=3139477 1up has a feature by Nadia Oxford. In the feature Nadia thinks back on all the classic and not so classic animated shows that featured our beloved game characters such as Sonic, Mario, Link, Mega-Man etc. It wasn't enough to play video games. A dedicated fan also had to read about Mario's adventures off-screen, slip between sheets stitched with Mario's smiling face, and eat instant pasta that might've been shaped like Mario in some vague way. And, of course, it was crucial to watch the cartoons. I remember that Captain N show somehow, at least commercials about it. And I actually think I watched every episode of Earthworm Jim from Cartoon Network when it was airing here for free in the 90's.
Tanukitsune Posted April 13, 2005 Whippersnapper! In our days we had Frogger, Donkey Kong Junior, Q-Bert and Pac-Man toons! EDIT: I forgot Pole Position! I didn't even know it was based on a game back then... I still think there are a couple missing like the Dragon's Lair toon! Oh, and that other Nintendo based series that had Big Foot (Monster Truck), the guy from Wizards and Warriors and a red tomato like critter from a puzzle game..... Dingo Chavez Posted April 23, 2005 I remember the Mario and Zelda cartoons. Zelda had Link portrayed as a dirty horny bastard who keeps sexually harrasing Zelda in the foulest ways imaginable. Mario was a mixture of ups and downs. Poor Luigi, the way The Man (being Mario) keeps him down. Mr. T: I was the voice of Ganon in the Zelda show, I also wrote some of the episodes, them were bitching, fool!
Jake Posted April 23, 2005 I always hoped Nintendo would adknowledge us Westerners and include Captain N in a Smash Bros game, but it didn't happen in Melee and I doubt we'll see him in whatever the inevitable Revolution version is either

Dingo Chavez Posted May 11, 2005 This may not be Video game related, but this site has such a Mr. T fan club I thought some of you may like it. http://www.agonybooth.com/extras/mr_t/medallion/ I found it quite funny in the first three pages, after that it kinda lost it. jokemaster Posted May 11, 2005 I remember Mario, Zelda, Sonic, and a Donkey Kong cartoon. But the Donkey Kong one was Donkey Kong Country, w/ CG graphics that looked almost EXACTLY like the SNES games.
JoeX111 Posted May 11, 2005 Whippersnapper! In our days we had Frogger, Donkey Kong Junior, Q-Bert and Pac-Man toons! When I was little, I used to eat the Pac-Man Spaghetti-O's religiously.
Chris Posted May 12, 2005 It's not much different now; now we just have more movies insted of shows and they take a bit longer to make.
jokemaster Posted May 12, 2005 And they still ignore the continuity of the game completely. Ironically I think that some of those old TV shows stuck more closely to the premise of the game than some of the movies nowadays. Seriously, developers should actually try participating in the making of the film, instead of just handing over the rights. I swear when I finally make a successful game, I'm going to demand to see a script and approve it before handing over the rights.
Tanukitsune Posted May 12, 2005 When I was little, I used to eat the Pac-Man Spaghetti-O's religiously. When I was a kid (I lived in Canada until I was 8 ) I had Donkey Kong cereals, I still may have the scratch n' sniff stickers...
jokemaster Posted May 13, 2005 That's actually a really good idea. That is why Earthworm Jim the cartoon sucked. But then what kind of movie/TV Show executive is going to listen to a game designer? Someone who has played the games, likes them and isn't just trying to grab another franchise. Oh wait, there aren't any, at least not anymore. IMO, what's happening is that right now all the people who are exectutives didn't play games when they were kids and don't play them now. In time, maybe it'll improve. What's happening too much is that people aren't making movies based on games, they're writing original works, then stamping the game's name on and changing the names of characters and maybe locations so that it'll be a movie of that game. Like Doom, Resident Evil, etc.
Chris Posted May 13, 2005 I really don't think it was that much better "back then". It was just as much committee-designed and marketing-inspired in the old days as it is now.

Yeah, we just remember the good things, and the very very very bad things. Not the just pure bad things.
