jokemaster Posted April 20, 2005 OK, I know I'm probably the 1000th person to come up with this, but LEC should re-release the old point-click adventure games for DS! It's perfect, It's got the point-and-touch system ready, it's got the power to support the graphics, and, most importantly, it can prove that adventure games can still sell! baconian Posted April 20, 2005 Yeah I thought about that, but pixel-hunting mightn't be as fun with the tiny screen. Maybe there's a way to make it work.
Erkki Posted April 20, 2005 Maybe someone will port ScummVM to DS?
SiN Posted April 20, 2005 Yeah I thought about that, but pixel-hunting mightn't be as fun with the tiny screen. Maybe there's a way to make it work. despite popular belief, pixel hunting is NOT fun. IMO, a great way for it to work on the DS would be when holding down the L/R buttons, the objects that actions can be performed on would glow. no pixel hunting = fun + works well on the ds Maybe someone will port ScummVM to DS? when the homebrew DS tools are a bit more solid, i'll take a look into that. mind you, i havent looked at the ScummVM code, but im a pretty good coder, and a challenge like this would be great SiN
Tanukitsune Posted April 20, 2005 I remember trying to play Sam & Max on my GP32, which screen is slighty bigger than the DS and it ok-ish.... The voices were echo-y and since it did not have a touch screen the control was kinds bad, but I think it could be done in a DS nicely... SiN's idea would do nicely, the objects could shine every once in a while so you wouldn't miss them, or at least you could have something to tell you that there is still something to pick up in that room... The upper screen could be a map, the inventory, or maybe a zoom to help pixel hunt? The possibilities are endless! Who knows, maybe they will think about making more adventures, or re-releasing old ones if Another Code sells well...

Also: Maybe highlight some items that aren't needed but just funny, and hide some items that are also not needed, but funny stuff happens if you tap it? SiN Posted April 21, 2005 I hope you mean the L OR R button, or else you'd have to memorize which objects to use, and that way, lefties and righties can play it. yes, to clarify, i meant the Left Trigger or Right Trigger ... im pretty sure "/" means "or" as for the top screen, id use it for inventory and talking ... use the direction pad to select stuff from the inventory (or lines to speak), A to select them, and B to cancel ... obviously, the possibility to switch everything around will be present for lefties like myself [edit] kinda forgot about this bit Also: Maybe highlight some items that aren't needed but just funny, and hide some items that are also not needed, but funny stuff happens if you tap it? yep that too. lemme put it to you like this : u know how when u roll over something in a SCUMM game, the crosshair turns red or the object name pops up at the bottom? all of those objects would have a halo around them. basically, i think eliminating the pixel hunt, and getting on to the puzzling/humour would be great. manny_c44 Posted April 21, 2005 Yeah, the games would actually be far improved without the pixel hunting, but thinking it would be harder on a smaller screen isn't necessarily true, the resolutions of these games were 320x240 (mostly), I play adventures on my PDA and sam and Max and Full Throttle looks great and actually smooth, as well as preceding adventures, in terms of clarity and ease of use. CMI was a bit harder, if I didn't know where verything was it might be quite difficult.
loonyboi Posted April 21, 2005 Broken Sword worked surprisingly well on the GBA platform. They had to lose the cut-scenes in favor of slideshows, but the shoulder buttons worked out nicely. ...except for the bug that made it impossible to keep playing. That kind of sucked. Yeah aside from the "you can't beat it unless you do everything according to one very set path" bug, it was really really cool. BS1 for GBA made me wish Lucas would consider something similar, but I don't think they see it as a potential moneymaker even on the current handhelds, so ... shed a little invisible tear for that I guess. I'm hoping people figure out how to get homebrew PSP apps to run off memory sticks. Then all we need is a ScummVM port, and bam! Best system ever.

netmonkey Posted April 23, 2005 What if you LucasArts called it: Star Wars: The Secret of Monkey Island Advance. Then they could have some cool acronym like SW:SOMIA! That would sell...

EVen better Star Wars in the Secret of Monkey Island Advance: SW: INSOMIA EDIT: The PSP needs a hell of a lot more than adventure games to beat my good ol' PC. Plus, I'm pretty sure the games'll play better on DS than PSP.
