Lucasarts on Star Wars IP

Recommended Posts

"We are best known for our Star Wars IP, but we feel like we oversaturated the market in the past," says Geoghegan [pronounced Go-Heegan] vice president global sales and marketing at LucasArts. "We were inadvertently harvesting the brand and we were shipping too much undifferentiated, mediocre product."
Really? I hadn't noticed.

" We have to be more careful about how we manage the brand."
I can't tell if they mean they're going to start making good Star Wars games, or start releasing more non-Star Wars games. The article goes on to say they'll be making more Indiana Jones games, but I was hoping for more along the lines of, you know, Sam and Max.

Anyway, the article's here.

The company’s ambitions are to break into publishing’s top five by 2008. But, with the best will in the world, that won’t be achieved with a few mega-selling Star Wars and Indiana Jones games every year.

Is it just me who thinks it'd be amusing to see LucasArts become Double Fine's publisher, should Majesco prove unable to get themselves out of their current mess? ;

hmmm this all sounds very familiar.... jeffery.jpg

We should start putting the Wario nose on all our official photographs. Everybody's favourite former deplorable president of LEC would look much better with those... blah...

So basically what they're saying is: we ran out of star wars movie tie-ins and now we're planning for the new Indiana Jones movie. :tdown:

Yep. I always sort of gathered that management fucked up the original games through a variety of ways. There's only so much one guy can do.
