miffy495 Posted August 31, 2006 Just so I'm clear, they never made an NTSC version that isn't NTSC-J, right? And I would need a modchip to play NTSC-J? I've always been confused by the whole "Japan uses NTSC, but not exactly the same NTSC that you do" thing. On the other hand, if there is an NTSC version of Vib Ribbon and I just didn't know about it, I must now begin an intensive search.
eljay Posted August 31, 2006 You seem to be confusing region protection with television standards. That euro games are in PAL is not the reason you would need to mod your console to play them in North America, you just need to have a TV that can support both modes. You need a mod to play Euro games because they are region locked, and the same is true of Japanese games. As for whether Vib Ribbon ever came out in North America, you are correct, it did not. One of those weird occurrences when Europe got something America didn't..... god knows why.
Spaff Posted August 31, 2006 to be fair, the NTSC-J, NTSC and PAL versions kind of define region protection as far as Playstation games go... You'd need to mod it or use a slidecard (no modding required.. except a ripping the drive bay front off). Modded Playstation 1s are probably ten a penny now on ebay though?
