Wrestlevania Posted October 3, 2006 I've got a Japanese copy of Rez but I have a PAL (UK) Dreamcast. I've tried using the DC-Utopia v1.2 boot disc but with no success. Can anyone recommend an alternative boot disc to play Rez with, as information is - unsuprisingly - thin on the ground nowadays...
Ben Posted October 3, 2006 You need to get a hold of the Action Replay Disc, which was given away free on DC-UK magazine towards the end of its life. It works with pretty much every game, US and JAP, aside from a few of the more obscure JAP only fighting games.
Wrestlevania Posted October 3, 2006 Thanks, Ben. I'll have a scout around the usual dens of digital iniquity and see if I can't find a copy. Update: Gotcha! [ed2k]
Kolzig Posted October 3, 2006 Is this useful and/or working one for playing other region games on a Euro DC? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130032904247
Wrestlevania Posted October 3, 2006 Looks promising, Kolz - thanks for the pointer. As the DC can read 'burnt' CDs as standard, I'll see if I can't get that package I found on the ed2k network working first.
Wrestlevania Posted October 17, 2006 Just wanted to update this thread, as I’ve tried out the Action Replay CDX disc finally. (My DVD±RW drive ‘sploded, so that’s why it’s taken a while). It didn’t work. :\ The Action Replay CDX disc loaded fine, I was able to setup a new CDX “game record” for Rez on my memory card, but I couldn’t get the game to load – even when I switched the Dreamcast to NTSC mode via the Action Replay settings. My Dreamcast insists it’s just an audio CD. Any other possible solutions, please?!!
ysbreker Posted October 17, 2006 There's still the emulator option?
Wrestlevania Posted October 17, 2006 I appreciate the suggestion, but it’s a pretty dirty alternative to the genuine article. Going by my past experience with console emulators, there’s bound to be imperfect support for the less common / more unusual titles anyway, and you can’t get much more unusual than Rez. SiN Posted October 18, 2006 Emulation isn't really an option ... the quality is simply "okay". Rez looks *much* better on the actual system, plus, I recall the last level of Rez would crash on Chankast. I've had the "thinks it's an audio CD" problem before (with Rez too, I think) and I'm pretty sure it's just a case of a bad CD. If the CD is a burned copy, consider reburning it on a different brand CDR. If you bought it original, try to download a copy off the net. You really shouldn't have any moral problems with this, as neither Sega nor UGA make money off this any more. My solution was simply to take out the disc, clean it a bit, and load it right back in again. Didn't take more than two or three tries before it eventually booted up. miffy495 Posted October 18, 2006 You could try and find a PS2 copy? S'what I did...
Wrestlevania Posted October 18, 2006 I've had the "thinks it's an audio CD" problem before (with Rez too, I think) and I'm pretty sure it's just a case of a bad CD. I’m certain this isn’t the case. The disc is readable, but not bootable. I’m trying to get hold of an alternate PAL-based copy to see if that will work instead. In the meantime I’m going to see if I can get my existing NTSC copy booted using version 1.1 of the Dreamcast Utopia boot disc. I’ve tried v1.2 in the past with no luck, but stumbled across a forum post somewhere else that suggested that version 1.1 offered better compatibility overall. Seems bizarre, but I’m keen to try it anyway. You could try and find a PS2 copy? You just want to see my bitch-tits.
Wrestlevania Posted October 25, 2006 I’m trying to get hold of an alternate PAL-based copy to see if that will work instead. …which it did – hurrah! I’m not very good at it, but Rez is certainly no less absorbing than all the praise would have you believe. I need to read up on strategies and such to make sure I get the most out of the game though. Incidentally, the game features just my sort of music too, especially when you fight the first level boss.
