Iwata Asks: An Epic Interview Series

Recommended Posts

We don't have a thread for Iwata Asks. An enormous crime since this is the best interview series all year.

Ninty president Satoru Iwata takes the role of interviewer and introduces the dozens of personalities behind the games and hardware. In between the more predictable answers are some great details giving you a tiny window into the minds at Nintendo. Miyamoto, while mentioned often, is featured only in a handful of the chapters, which is incredibly refreshing. In fact, all these interviews made me re-respect Miyamoto, whose legendary status I thought had completely surpassed his actual involvement (an assumption I now realize was completely wrong).

The latest two chapters focus on Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, and Iwata squatting.

Does this guy look like he could be the developer of Wario Ware?

Yes he does.

Also; this series is the source of all the wonderful 'teatable' hilarity that's been occurring on Idle Thumbs.

There is a LOT of repeptitive stuff in the interviews though. Those Japanese designers can be loooooooongwinded as heck. Very nice look into the company however. Just don't expect to hear anything negative ;)

When is there ever anything negative in a games interview? Or a regular interview, for that matter. Aside from cases where the one being interviewed flips out (which is just idiotic) there's hardly negative things mentioned. Negative things spun to something positive, sure. But never flat out negative.

I think Iwata Asks is the most refreshing insight into a game company I've read in a long time. Iwata asks questions that are relevant and the developers seem much more comfortable in answering them. Plus, you get to hear from people you probably never would hear from otherwise.

So.. I love it!
