Marek Posted February 7, 2007 It seems so. Even though Tim is often pretty shy on stage, that's very exciting to me.
Roderick Posted February 7, 2007 Damn it, and I'm not going again. I think it'll be a while before I get the chance =(
vimes Posted February 7, 2007 I've been looking for a way to go to the GDC for years; but every time, I found the entrance fees very high, like over $US 150 . I'll be in the US next year so I'm seriously considering going in 2008 ; is there any cheap way to attend to the conferences ?
Marek Posted February 7, 2007 Warning: the cheap passes are lame. The Friday student pass or the Expo pass don't include access to 90% of the stuff. Those are only worth it if you happen to live in the area and want to briefly check out the expo and not do any of the other things. The fun really starts at Classic Pass ($1450). The main ways to get into GDC are: You are a game industry professional and your company pays you to go. You are a conference speaker (you need to pitch a session and get it approved). You are a member of the press and are covering the show. You are rich. You are Tim Schafer.
vimes Posted February 7, 2007 Geez, if I only knew a website that had spare entries:shifty: Anyway, what is the definition of 'the press' ? Does it include internet publication of any kind or not ?
Marek Posted February 7, 2007 Yes it does, but it goes through a screening process.
netmonkey Posted February 9, 2007 My Adventure Game Studio buddy, Dave Gilbert, got nominated for best new studio. It's pretty exciting stuff. If you haven't checked out his games, you can get the demos and buy them from his site, Wadjet Eye Games. I will be attending the ceremony and GDC. Hopefully if any of you Thumbers are around, we can hang out and stuff.
Marek Posted February 9, 2007 That's totally amazing. Also a bit bizarre since Dave Gilbert used to write for AG etc. and ... well ... now he's going to be nominated at the GDC awards. Woo! A small army of thumbers and former thumbers will be at GDC so that can definitely happen. I suggest you get in touch with Jake! Oh man GDC will own so hard. I will die of pleasure. toblix Posted February 10, 2007 I'm guessing thorough reports and interviews is too much to ask from a blog?
brkl Posted February 10, 2007 Dave Gilbert's games are very good. Buy them.
Marek Posted February 10, 2007 I'm guessing thorough reports and interviews is too much to ask from a blog? It totally depends. Personally, I won't be writing anything for Thumb, as I've got way too much on my plate already. But I know some of us want to write something.
Aussie Ben Posted February 11, 2007 The Thumbs could just make a standard Madlib and have everyone fill out one of those while they're at GDC! It'll be easy, fun and lazy! Just like the Thumbs itself! Here's a prototype to get you started: While at the GDC, I met [name]. They said that they had seen [thing]. According to [name], it was the [adjective] [noun] they'd ever [verb]. They also saw [Tim Schafer]. He [adjective] just like a [noun]. It was the most [adjective] [noun] of my [noun]. The winner of Best [award] was a crock. It totally should have been [obscure game or person]. These awards are a [noun].
Roderick Posted February 12, 2007 Also, at the GDC, Miyamoto will receive a lifetime achievement award. And I'm still not going =(
