The Goddamn worst

Recommended Posts

What is the worst game you've ever player? I don't mean frustrating, glitchy or anything technically wrong with it like controls or whatever but just what is, in essence, a terrible game.

Mine would have to be Earthworm Jim 3D. After the first two masterpieces (well, the first one was good...) it was such a letdown. The badly cobbled together plot and flimsy, repetitive gameplay looked more like a movie spinoff cash in except it didn't even has that to redeem itself with. I remember being particularly annoyed that they made up new bad guys and pretended like they'd been there all along, that was just dumb.

So yeah, either that or that South Park racing game for the 64

I sort of dislike threads like this... It's like Adventure Gamers. There's not too much new material to work with and everyone is still looking through the rear-view mirror. They've gone through at least 10 threads about which is the best adventure game ever and who is the best character and which game is funniest and which had the best puzzles. Now they're going through threads about the worst game and the worst character and the most annoying puzzles. I don't visit the Adventure section much anymore.

This thread was actually inspired by Toblix. I figured he'd have something entertaining to say on the subject.

I sort of agree with brkl on this. The best/worst stuff usually pops up over and over again. It's a bit boring to rehash the same stuff over and over again.

Much more interesting threads are the "last game played" or "last movie watched".

Inspired by me? Fuck that. As I said in another thread, I don't hate most games. It's just that writing about fun games isn't that interesting. For example, I didn't post about Half-Life 2 or any of the Myst games or Commandos 2 or KOTOR 2, because I thought they were fun. The games that suck are the ones that are fun to complain about, like that piece of shit Trauma Center.

Anyway, I also think threads like these are boring. Instead, I'll talk some more about Minish Cap. This is one fun game. The stuff with the shrinking is awesome. Do the 3D Zeldas also have some alternate world thing going, like dark world, past world, underworld, different season world, giant world (when you're tiny) and so on? That one with the three days that you have to do something before they are over and stuff sounds pretty fun, although it also sounds like a game where you have to time shit and do things in sequence or you die.

Oh, and Desperados rocks. It's totally a Commandos clone, but the quick actions and the character abilities and the graphics(!) and the levels are awesome. And I love Myst games, although the multiplayer stuff... not so much.

And man does that Fallout 3 teaser site tease me good. When I heard Bethesda were making FO3 I immediately knew it wasn't going to be a "real" Fallout game. It would be first person, real time, all that shit. I'm also sure of that now, even though they got all the great voices back (McGyver and Pearlman!), but there's just something about teasers and stuff being announced and close to release. It was like that with Vista. I was totally not going to get Vista, but the day it was released I got drunk with hype and got it as fast as I could.

Also, I'm handing in my master's thesis in just over a month, and when I do I'm going to get me a sweet objective. June 15th, you will rock.

It seems I won't be playing any more MGS3. I'm sad to say I've tried so many times without any luck (or much enjoyment), and after a period of time without access to the PS2 I'm just not interested anymore, which is a huge shame because I'm sure it's a completely and totally awesome game once you, I dunno, get the hang of it.

Having destroyed this thread seed of hate, hopefully other threads, threads of love, will thrive once again. Threads like "What is your favourite game mechanic?" and "On what level of a game do you usually start to cry?".

I had a discussion once about whether the Myst games were, in fact, games. I thought it was, and said so, but I also argumented poorly, and since this was a newsgroup that was it for the discussion. I don't know if the question of whether something is a game or not even interests me any more. But if someone here hates Myst, or "don't get what people like about those pretty slideshows", I'm ready.

Ever played the Desperados 2?

I liked Desperados too, but never tried 2, it kind slipped under the radar.

You know, I'm almost embarrassed to say. I never heard about it until a demo was released.

But when I saw that it was 3D I lost interest right away...:getmecoat
