WTF?! I mean, seriously, WTF?!?

My pre-ordered Limited Edition of Assassin's Creed has arrived. Can't comment on the gameplay, as I've yet to start on it. But, I open this big tin case and what do I find inside? The game. And four(admittedly very nice) art cards. And a lot of air.

Wasn't there supposed to be a whole lot more to it than that? I feel really ripped off now.

That Wikipedia listing is more than likely for the "official" US limited edition.

What you got sounds suspiciously like those crappy (sorry) limited editions some European - particularly British - retailers simply invent, in a vain attempt to lure potential business away from competitors. These "ghetto giveaways" as I like to call them usually involve something that a) is dirt-cheap and can be slotted into the regular game box and then rewrapped and stickered as a special version of the game with very little labour, keeping costs to a minimum. Art cards are a prime example.

Places like Play.com and GAME do this an awful lot I've noticed. Sorry, mate.

Yeah, I heard there was some confusion about different sort of editions. Is that even legal; shops crafting their own product? I should think Ubisoft frowns upon this sort of thing; because it's bad for the customer and bad for the product's reputation.

Believe it or not, I got it from play.com, which Ubisoft themselves linked me to from their own shop.

I take it that the actual Limited Edition isn't available here, then? Do they think we're not important enough? (Don't answer that, I already know they do.)

EDIT: I've just looked at the Ubi site again, and it's looking weird. At the time I placed the order, there was a section about the LE. When you clicked 'Buy Now' it took you to the play.com product. That section isn't there anymore, but it shows the regular version of the game, and it takes you to play.com as well.

However, if you follow the 'More Info' link, it will take you to the Official Assassin's Creed website. If you follow the purchase link from there it will lead you to a section of ubisoft's site that lets you buy the game from them.

Another difference is the former purchase option shows a PEGI 16+, the latter PEGI 18+ and the game I received was BBFC 15+.

It's simply an enhanced deal with the distributor. I would imagine it's of very little concern to them as long as it sells more copies of a key title in general, regardless of whatever guise it's goes under.

Aha! GAME seem to be selling an actual CE, with the figurine. Doesn't seem to have the Penny Arcade comic or bonus disc though, which was something else I was looking forward to.

Think I'll stop thinking about this until tomorrow, when I'm not suffering from sleep deprivation.

Be sure to let us know how it is. I'm interested, especially from seeing it in action in video reviews, but still need some convincing.

That sucks Adfegg. If you really want an Altair figure, I saw a couple of sizes of it for sale on play.com the other day, thought it sounds like you might want to shop somewhere else.

I've just looked at the US Limited Edition on play-asia, and it's shown as region-free. Would this apply to the Bonus Disc, do you think?

I would assume so -- what would be the point of spending money to region-lock bonus content and not the original product?

The fact that the bonus disk may or may not be a straight-up DVD. If it is, it's probably region locked.

Just received the real LE.

The bonus disc is a DVD, but it does work on the 360.

Is it really that bloody/gory? Does the blood flow like wine?

I am waiting on the now *delayed* PC release.
