DanJW Posted May 29, 2008 Yeah I think you're right, the pacing has suffered. This was a much slower, low-adrenaline episode. I don't think it was bad though... with the possible exception of the totally predictable new president choice. Looks like Adama might be in for some up-close action soon. Go Husker! LOPcagney Posted May 31, 2008 Hmm, I liked it. I wasn't absolutely clear on what the Lampkin pistol scene was about and how it fit into the theme of the episode as a whole. I have to say though, I liked the fact that it was slow-paced. This season's just been a straight shot to whatever conclusion they're setting up and it's nice to have a relaxing episode to really collect the details of where all the characters are in the story. I had mixed feelings about Lampkin's return. He was one of my all time favorite characters on BSG, but this time around he wasn't quite as interesting. Also, I don't know if it was intentional on the part of the writers, but Adama refers to the Natalie Six as an "unarmed woman", reflecting a gradual shift in opinion of the cylons as a faceless evil to a society of rational individuals. Wrestlevania Posted June 3, 2008 I actually thought Lampkin had drugged his cat for effect and was bullying Lee with the pistol to drive Lampkin's own agenda. He has definite power over Lee, so I thought he was forwarding his own machinations by pressing Lee into office. Turns out the cat really was stiffed, but I still think Lampkin is operating in his own best interests in supporting Lee. I also think the producers should now include pet numbers in the opening credits: "38,765 survivors, 23 dogs, 17 cats, 8 goldfish and an illegally-traded black market capuchin in search of a home... called Earth." As for the other happenings; this whole baby thing seems a bit wishy-washy. While it's quite possible, I still don't get what the point is. They're both 'regular' Cylons, are they not? Or is Tigh (and the other 4) actually a long-term generational hybrid, supplanted amongst humans many years ago (as I theorised earlier in this thread)? No idea, but this facet of the story doesn't serve any obvious purpose at the moment. Here's a potentially-juicy theory doing the rounds at the moment, though: Doc Cottle to be the fifth secret Cylon? It's not my suggestion, but something I came across people debating elsewhere. Personally, I think he's too insignificant to be the fifth; the fifth simply has to be someone far more impactful to my mind. And what with Lee Adama now taking the presidency - plus all the heart-ache and family history concerning his father - my money's on him. That or Rosalyn, now that Adama's committed himself to finding her over commanding Galactica and protecting the fleet. That'd be a real poke in the eye... Cigol Posted June 3, 2008 That Lampkin guy rubs me the wrong way, just doesn't seem... human.
Wrestlevania Posted June 3, 2008 Heh heh heh, nice! I'd expect his motives and interest in Lee Adama to become much more deep-seated before The Big Reveal though, assuming he's the Fifth.
Ginger Posted June 3, 2008 I fell behind so haven't read what everyone has written, just watched ep 7 that was bloody superb.
LOPcagney Posted June 5, 2008 That Lampkin guy rubs me the wrong way, just doesn't seem... human. Thats whats so great about him! He seems so inhuman and above it all, and then he has these really human moments which sort of break the spell. The problem with this episode was that we've already been disillusioned, so the whole larger-than-life thing doesn't work as well anymore.
Nachimir Posted June 8, 2008 Baltar's scenes were great this week "Shh, shh"
DanJW Posted June 8, 2008 Oh, forgot two things in the last episode: Racetrack's CGI spacewalk looked rubbish. First time the shows graphics have let me down. Secondly, fisticuffs between Adama and Tye = win. So this weeks episode was also great, although it felt a bit rushed. Yeah, Baltar was good, I enjoyed his little conversation with the centurion too. Just one more episode before the mid-season break. Can't wait to see if D'anna will out any of the Final Five. It's going to be a long summer of waiting after that though. Oh also D'anna messing with Roselyn's head was hilarious. I totally believed it.
LOPcagney Posted June 8, 2008 Yeah, I loved this last episode. Jane Espenson rocks. I'm glad the romance between Adama and Laura was finally established, and this was the most interresting episode for Baltar of the entire season. I was watching with a friend, and we'd been joking about how bad it would be if the episode's trailer had given away the identity of the final cylon. So the whole episode is leading up to D'Anna and Rosalyn being in the same room together and finally she says the line, and my friend shouts out "JK" just before she starts to laugh. I thought this episode was Season 2 good.
Cigol Posted June 9, 2008 That episode was my favourite so far The scene towards the end, omg, absolutely fupping hilarious! The cheek of the shows creators to throw in 'comedy' like that and pull it off, just amazing. The musical score was especially good too, but I've really got no idea how they are going to follow this episode, it's bound to disappoint. "Just one more episode before the mid-season break" - DanJW Oh, pants
eljay Posted June 10, 2008 Don't know why they're bothering to brand it as a mid season break considering they are waiting til 2009 before they show the rest, idiots that they are at Sci-Fi. Yes an excellent episode, the tease moment was incredibly pleasing. I've been meaning to mention that it's possible Kara's being the "herald of the apocalypse" and "bringing them to their end" could merely refer to her actions leading to cylons being mortal. Ginger Posted June 11, 2008 I've been meaning to mention that it's possible Kara's being the "herald of the apocalypse" and "bringing them to their end" could merely refer to her actions leading to cylons being mortal. I think she would have played a more active role in the mission to destroy the hub if that was the case.
vimes Posted June 11, 2008 I liked it, but as usual with this season, there's treason everywhere and everybody's acts nuts on cue... every single character is doing something then regretting it, then undoing it, then pondering if they should really have undone it. And I don't think the 'Made you doubt!' moment was believable... has the character made any kind of joke before her line was closed ?
Ginger Posted June 11, 2008 I agree with Vimes every episode there are about 5 occasions where I cringe at the stupidity of a character.
DanJW Posted June 11, 2008 Although I admit that it has happened quite a bit this season, I didn't think that really happened in this episode. If you're talking about what Roselyn did to Baltar, I think that's well within her character. She really really hates him. And as for betraying the cylons a bit, she made it clear she was going to do that from the start of the deal.
Wrestlevania Posted June 11, 2008 Didn't like this episode - it being too self-aware broke the suspension of disbelief for me. However, it did serve to highlight the interesting parallels between Baltar and Roslin; both being led (or is it driven?) by hallucinatory/imaginary figures. And I was mortified when I thought Laura was going to deliberately let Gaius bleed to death.
n0wak Posted June 14, 2008 YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP!!
DanJW Posted June 14, 2008 Haha yeah, I was totally expecting to see the statue's head poking out of the sand. Manic episode that, can't believe they pulled all 4 cylons out of the bag at once. mysterious thing about the 5th though eh? Not in the fleet apparently. For a few minutes I thought that Starbuck's viper might turn out to be it, sentient in the same way as a cylon raider. But no. So which character could make a surprise return as the 5th? (or it could have been someone already aboard the basetar, like Baltar, but you would have thought D'anna would say something to them).
LOPcagney Posted June 15, 2008 That would still be very cool. Because at one point, I'm almost positive they said all five were in the fleet. And now the fifth isn't. Hmmm.
eljay Posted June 15, 2008 I just took it to mean that one of the five was on the Basestar which heavily implied Gaius, Roslin or Adama as the main candidates. Although if they went back to Roslin after the fakeout that would be a bit weird.
brkl Posted June 15, 2008 That would still be very cool. Because at one point, I'm almost positive they said all five were in the fleet. And now the fifth isn't. Hmmm. No it fucking wouldn't. It would be terrible.
eljay Posted June 15, 2008 Oh also, about why D'Anna wouldn't reveal to whoever the 5th is that they are the 5th, she couldn't be certain how they would react so by keeping them among the hostages and not revealing anything until the other 4 were safely aboard she was ensuring she got them all together. Tigh's confession scene was awesome.
DanJW Posted June 15, 2008 Yup, Tigh's got the balls. Like Adama told him a couple of episodes ago, he's a changed man cylon.
