time to make some album covers

That's splendid, n0wak.

And so I was compelled to lessen the blunt force trauma of "Monday morning" with another of my own:

Love. This. Game! :frusty:

Dan, that's brilliant!

I hope no-one here is cheating. (It kind of defeats the purpose of putting together totally random things and seeing how they can work together.) Even if you get a band name, I think you should still go for it!

Such. Good. Fun!

No point in cheating - no skill in trying to work what you get into something interesting/exciting if you decide to pick them manually.

I've been clicking the links over and over since this thread started, waiting for something I liked, and finally got one this morning :) Will do it this evening.

Bah! As WV rightfully pointed out, it's pretty pointless if you just pick something good (even you're "randomly" waiting for something good to come along). It doesn't matter if it's "bad", it's part of the fun!

First thing you click on. Period!

Randomness isn't so good.

Why not think of some names yourself and find a picture you like then? :( Seriously, it kinda defeats the whole point of the game. *sigh* Oh well. You can guarantee that mine are 100% totally what I've been given :D Good, bad or... ugly.

The point is that you work with what you have to make something good. I scored with my last one but did a bunch of others I didn't upload so it's not like I'm getting 100% quality here. The whole thing is meant to be a design/typography exercise too, if anything.

Here's one I just did

I totally accept and agree with your point that creativity is enhanced by constraint, but Thunderpeel seems to think I should work with the first thing the links give out, when mostly they generate ass and don't work as concepts.

I'm picky, and don't care if he wants to call me cheat. this one was random and I really liked it:

That's precisely why I like it.

It's especially good for me at the moment as work isn't very enjoyable presently. So turning out a decent one of these helps set me up in a more positive frame of mind each morning.

To be clear, I'm also being selective about which iteration of random I go for. But I'm using all of what I get in one complete cycle - there's no point churning out stuff you just don't find inspiring or fun, that's somewhat missing the point in my opinion. You don't buy the first three-piece suit you see in the mall, do you?

Cue (further) accusations of 'cheating'...

The only reason I even bothered making one was because I got something so randomnly amazing as that quote and that picture. Unfortunately mine looks less like an album cover and more like a piss-take.

Regarding the quotes; I think you should make one alteration to the rules. On that page is some checkboxes which will expand the selection of quotes to randomnly pick from. This way you can avoid repetition.

Third time I've got random stuff and the third "cover" I've designed.

I guess it's just me, but I see the whole point of this is to loosen you up as a designer. You can easily get bogged down trying to get everything "perfect" in day-to-day designing. With this you can not only not take it too seriously, but it also forces you out of your comfort zone into trying something that you would never pick out consciously.

As a graphic designer you don't have the luxury of only picking work you find fun or that inspires you, and this is a way of getting yourself used to that scenario, IMHO.

Anyways, do what you will, I'll be keeping it real, fo' shizzle :davidbrent:
