Wrestlevania Posted June 14, 2008 Here at Wrestle's Home for Broken Consoles, our latest intake has reacquainted me with a long-lost friend: the Nintendo Gamecube. I've managed to get it working again and so a friend has lent me a couple of games to start playing: Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Which have got me thinking about other highly acclaimed games I missed the first time around: Eternal Darkness Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes Pikmin Resident Evil (aka REmake) Resident Evil 4 (so I can complete it) What other games do you think are essential plays on the Gamecube? Roderick Posted June 14, 2008 BG&E, which I played on the Gamecube. Also, I definitely had fun (and frustration) with Mario Sunshine. It's recommendable if only because it's such a weird Mario game, so out of the ordinary. Nothing quite like it, for better or worse.
Wrestlevania Posted June 14, 2008 Ah, of course! BG&E I've played twice on PC; originally almost to completion about 2 years ago, then again earlier this year for a short while. I really like the Gamecube controller, so I think that'd probably make it much more rewarding to play again. Mouse and keyboard, while it basically worked, felt really crap for that game. Super Mario Sunshine I actually had* with my original Gamecube years ago. Never got very far in it, but it was a stunning world to run around in. Definitely need to give it a second chance - thanks for bringing it up! * I had four games in total--the other three being Soul Calibur II (which was brilliant), Resident Evil Zero (really disappointing) and SSX 3 (which is my favourite sports game to date). ThunderPeel2001 Posted June 14, 2008 Paper Door Mario (or whatever it's called) is supposed to be good - although I've never been able to find it for a reasonable price. Pikmin is a very nice little game. My gf picked it up randomly because it looked "cute" and it turned out to be really good!
lobotomy42 Posted June 14, 2008 Chibi-Robo!!! Check the icon!! Chibi-Robo is *amazing* Also: Killer7 Eternal Darkness
miffy495 Posted June 14, 2008 Put me down for Chibi-robo, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Super Mario Sunshine, and Killer 7 as well. Also, as you already mentioned Twin Snakes, I'll say get it. I've actually bought it twice now, as my first copy went with a friend who moved and forgot he had it. Actually don't regret spending that much on it. It's that good. Plus: - Alien Hominid (if you haven't bought it on XBLA) - Viewtiful Joe - Battalion Wars (I really liked it, despite the lukewarm general reaction) - Odama (I recently got it for $8. Totally worth that. Don't spend more than $15 on it though) It's odd. For the last generation, the GCN was my only system for four years and not much else is really jumping out. I still love that little purple box though.

I still love that little purple box though. I second Battalion Wars. Yeah, it was pretty much my system of choice for that entire generation. In fact, I still think it has a generally better lineup than most of the current consoles do now. Not because it had a *ton* of standout titles, but because it had one or two stand out titles for every major genre, or at least it felt like it. So, it's lineup wasn't fantastic, but it was consistently spread across genres and generally high quality. Also, the choice JRPGS, if you're into that, are: Fire Emblem (turn-based tactical) Tales of Symphonia (real-time battles; optional 2-4p co-op) Skies of Arcadia (if you didn't already play it on the Dreamcast...) Oh, man. So many memories on that little box. *Nostalgia*
