Prince of Persia trailer at Games Convention (2008)

Recommended Posts

Don't get me wrong, the world-weary humour of the new Prince was spot on, but that Drake's Fortune accent is just completely wrong for the setting. It would be like hiring Jake Gyllenhaal to play him in a mov...Oh, hang on!:frusty:

The Okami style rejuvenation looks good, though. Combined with the Parkour, this could become a really cool method of unlocking new areas and secrets.

Hah, I thought exactly the same thing about the accent. It got annoying very quickly. Why can't we have a Prince of Persia with an Arabic accent? You'd think all the American consumer test-groups had turned out to be xenophobic or something.

I like how the cell-shading is quite subtle though. Took me a minute to even notice it.

Oh and another thing stolen from Okami: magical wave of plants rejuvenation! and not even as impressive. Yawn.

The Wrath of the Lich King intro cinematic, however, made me fangasm.

And could someone tell me how the hell Blizzard managed to resurrect the voice actor that did King Terenas in Warcraft III? 'Cause he died shortly after. Apparently World of Warcraft's success gives Blizz powers over the afterlife

Did you post this in the wrong thread?

Hmmm... The level design looks interesting, the transition from dark-world to light-world was nice, the dialogue was innane and I couldn't agree more about the Prince's voice. But does anyone know why the girl glows all bluish and it looks like the Prince grabs on to her to enable double-jumping?

She's a magical companion like Issun or Midna or countless others. Unusually for that type of character she is human-sized and shaped.

I'm going to guess the plot here. The black corruption stuff is spreading throughout the land (secretly controlled by a Big Bad Guy) and only this one magical girl, probably the High Priestess, has the power to cleanse it. But she needs someone to defend her along the way which is where the Prince comes in.

If they wanted to go for a fantasy setting they should have gone for inspiration to The Sandman story Ramadan, which is basically the world of 1001 Arabian Nights but on some magical happy powder.

Yeah. Truly shitty choice of voice and dialogue. Maybe it's a statement of some short?

The art direction is pretty nice however. The douche doesn't react to the environment nearly as convincingly as in Uncharted and the double jumps look just stupid though.

Didn't the developers say that the players can roam freely or something? Or at least choose from multiple paths and return to areas you have already visited? If so, I have a feeling that it could be confusing as hell without a really good map and compass system, seeing that, as far as I understood, all that jumping after the first enemy encounter led to them getting one storey up of their location before the attack.

It's possible, given the Prince's sarcastic comments on the cliches of game design. But somehow I don't want to credit the designers with that level of irony.

I actually meant a lame political statement on how an American guy is suddenly the Prince of Persia, but it works that way as well.
