Wrestlevania Posted September 9, 2008 Rumours abound on the Consolevania forums that messrs Florence and McCloud have parted ways, putting Consolevania and videoGaiden to bed for good in the process. Anyone know anything more? Seems credible, but I'm crushed by the idea of it.
Roderick Posted September 9, 2008 They kinnae do tha! They taught me how to speak Scottish! The site was getting slimmer and slimmer all the time, but let's hope we get some sort of official statement soon. A world without Consolevania or Videogaiden... the internet just got a lot less fun. Still, they left an ageless legacy of dozens (maybe nearing one hundred even?) of episodes that are still fun to watch even as the games aren't new anymore. I feel like rewatching Gaiden S2. TEAM!! Spaff Posted September 9, 2008 i don't get where the start of this rumour is from, that post just comments on the removal of content on the site, which would suggest re-invention or re-branding or relaunching rather than them going away. I'd like to read anything to the contrary if it exists though, just to know why, so if I'm missing something please tell me
Thrik Posted September 9, 2008 Here're the last three news posts before the page's removal (as well as the majority of the website's content): Quote July 31st, 2008:This news page is going to vanish forever in a couple of weeks. It has served us well. God bless you, old gaidennewspage! The first to fall. And the pages begin to vanish…and the website begins to vanish… It’s going to be an emotional couple of weeks. Say an early farewell to the news page with Cibelle’s glorious version of Tom Waits’ beautiful Green Grass. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0yPMdWxSxUg Quote August 1st, 2008:And so, it’s time for this departing website to tell its last bit of big news. videoGaiden is finished. Everyone involved feels that we’ve taken the show as far as it can go, and the epic and exhausting third series seemed a good place to put an end to it. It’s been a good run, and we’d like to thank the BBC for showing faith in a niche show for so long. We leave the BBC with many good memories, such as free soup. In the future, we’ll look back with some pride on videoGaiden - undoubtedly the most unconventional show that any of us have ever been involved with. Good times, good times. But tiring times. Goodbaiden. And Tom Waits, as we all know, has a song for every occasion. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ccVC5MjZEfs Quote August 17th, 2008:http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DhxeOaFe7hc This could of course just be some classic Consolevania mind games. Or it could just as easily not be.
DanJW Posted September 9, 2008 It suggests that the VideoGaiden brnd is done, having not been renewed with the BBC. I have a feeling that Consolevania will survive however.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted September 17, 2008 why are they removing content? I've still not managed to watch them all yet :/
Wrestlevania Posted September 17, 2008 'Gaiden series 3's still available on the Beeb at the moment, but I'd expect them to take it down soon as it's probably nearing the end of its lifespan. Any other video content by Florence and McCloud will need to obtained through more salubrious websites means... As for their writing, was there really very much there to be taken away? The news and similar always seemed very bitty and not that in-depth.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted September 17, 2008 They're not taking down epsidoes of ConsoleVania are they?
Wrestlevania Posted September 17, 2008 I believe Consolevania is mirror hosted as a rule, so I don't believe so. I think I still saw the season 2 and 3 episodes still linked on consolevania.com last week.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted September 17, 2008 Groovy As long as there's mirrors I'll be able to watch them... eventually
