Grand Thumb Auto X: The Fellowship of the Thumb

Recommended Posts

I always wondered where that car went. Anyway, I'm definitely going to try to have the next session filmed. Watching these clips is amazing.

Now, to get myself a camera.

Hmm, yeah. Filming is a good idea, especially when you've finished a race or been eliminated from something.

They just announced the achievements for The Lost and the Damned (less than a month away) and one is particularly of interest for future gaming:

  Quote
Get Good Wood – 50G: In the Bike Races, whack off 69 bikers with a bat.

Easy Rider – 100G: Finish The Story

Full Chat – 70G: Your backup are riding at their best!

The Lost Boy – 25G: All hail the leader of The Lost!

One Percenter – 5G: Billy is back on his bike.

Ignoring the :innocent: crap, motorcyles + baseball bats. :yep:

I'm intrigued by bike races. Perhaps even more fun than having a squad of ice cream vans blaring their tunes while racing through Bohan. Or not.

n0wak, if you think that's bad, you should have seen what he did when he lost that helicopter race.

I thought that was me jumping off the bridge/overpass/whatever. I didn't get that on video, though, and it looks a lot more dramatic than I remembered, so I guess it probably wasn't.

That was awesome. If you see in the distance, right after you switch the camera angle for a second, that asshole in the black car, whoever he is, flips right off the edge. RACE OVER FOR HIM, TO BE SURE!

Hahahaha, I never noticed. It's somewhat comforting to know that WHOEVER THAT PRICK WAS ruined his own chances as well as my own.

Seriously, that makes the clip much more amusing. It's like some hilarious background detail in a film or something. Serves you right for ditching the ice cream truck, though.

I think that truck ahead of you was me. As I recall, THAT PRICK flipped off the road while trying to ram me. Serves him right.

I didn't realize the trucks deformed that well. Actually looks like a chunk got blown off. Pretty.

The damage modelling in that game is actually pretty spectacular at times. One time a friend and I were trying to pull off that swing glitch in a taxi, and it completely fucked us up, to the point that the car could only drive in a circle. The damage was actually different on each of our screens: if I remember correctly, on his screen half of the front dipped below wheel-level, whereas on my screen the back was basically shorn in two, with the top of one half being at roughly the same height as the bottom of the other.

The protected name is my friend's. I'm being paranoid on his behalf, not my own.

Hey, everyone knows ice cream is for fags.

As is remaining in contact with the road.

Hmm, wasn't convinced about the whole filming thing. But there are some real gems cropping up as a result. I'd probably start doing it too, if there was any reasonable hope of me finding the time to download and edit the bloody stuff. :getmecoat

Huh. That's interesting. Would the car handle different, due to the damage, based on who was driving their version of it? :erm:

Almost certainly not; I'm guessing the mechanics and possibly wheel position+orientation propagate over the network, but cosmetic damage is done locally.

The way you can distort the chassis and wheels of a vehicle is GTA IV is pretty cool; I once tried to drive a car between a building and a concrete table at high speed and ended up with an unsteerable, wedge shaped car that had both the front wheels pointing about 45 degrees inwards. That ice cream van video is one of the best deformations I've seen

Something that may be relevant is that, as far as I can tell, the driver takes precedence when driving. I guess that's kind of obvious, but sometimes when you're a passenger in a laggy game, the car will slide around in an unnatural fashion. I've never encountered this while driving, so I guess the driver's system kind of hosts that particular car's position OR SOMETHING I don't know too much about the technical stuff. Is that common? I guess it would make sense in a peer-to-peer setting. Is GTA multiplayer peer-to-peer? Am I being dumb?

So, is this happening again this week, or has it all gone to shit? Tomorrow? Yes? No?

Yes, I guess it's happening again this week, and yes, it has all gone to shit. I'd start a new thread, but I'm all out of joy.
