elmuerte Posted March 7, 2009 There a good article (blog post, whatever) on CNet: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10188950-17.html Of course the article mentions the overrated term "innovation". But it does have some good points. In fact, when the game industry becomes like the movie industry it will even be worse. As it will become more difficult to independent studios to create large games (because of lack of funding). And there is of course the whole Hollywood accounting which isn't a good thing for the independent dev studios.
Marek Posted March 7, 2009 This article reads like it was written 4 or 5 years ago, but somehow it was written this week.
Horticulture Tycoon Posted March 7, 2009 I actually think the more the games industry becomes like the movie industry, the easier it'll be for independent studios to find investors. The independent film movement in the 80's and 90's coincided with the corporatization of Hollywood, some would argue it was a direct result of it. If the big studios are making big big profits from big games, the small studios shouldn't have too much trouble finding enough venture capital to make their own big games too. Assuming this credit mess clears up at some point.
