I figured even though the deadline isn't until April, I may as well go for it and get the rest of things on track.

Sign of maturity right here. You get :tup::tup: out of a potential :tup:

Good to know you weren't on any of the flights that lost engines and had to emergency-land in Singapore in the last couple of weeks.

Does it really have a fireplace though? I had a fireplace in one apartment I lived in and it turned out it really didn't go anywhere and that you weren't allowed to make fires there.

To make up for it, there was a power outlet inside of the fireplace instead. I stuck a TV in there.

When I was viewing the apartment they turned it on and everything. It's gas with ceramic fake logs, so I don't get to light my own or anything, but it's still a fireplace.

How was fucking Japan, Thompson?

Miffy: I have a faux fireplace too, and it adds so much ambiance to the room.

Yeah, it'll be great to have. Still, being a transplanted farm kid means that a fire just feels weird if I'm not chopping the wood and lighting it myself. Dang fancy city-contrivances, etc.

The idea of reading classic novels next to a fireplace sounds lovely. :) Good place to read Jane Austen novels, or Jules Verne or HG Wells, or any writer you consider pleasant.

Ha. I have almost all of my things in boxes, but kept a few books and games out to read and play during the transition time. Oddly enough, three of those books are Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The War of the Worlds, and Persuasion. Well called, sir.

Rest assured, i'm writing a stupidly long review of my trip. Not long by choice, but once I start writing I just can't stop.

So, today was moving day part 1. I don't actually take possession of the new place until the first, but it's currently vacant so I'm able to divide up my move over several days rather than having to do it all in one shot. Today, my uncle was down from Edmonton with his huge truck. This means that all of the big stuff has now been taken out of the place I'm still in for the next four days and been moved to the place I will soon be in. That takes a lot of pressure off, as now I have nothing but some small stuff to move over and have a few days to actually organize the place before I live there. It also means that I'm sleeping on an air mattress for the next few nights. Oh well. Just a few stacks of books, some posters, my computer, and my printer left to take to the new place. I'm feeling pretty good about it, but anxious for the transition shit to be over so I can settle in and start getting ready for Christmas.

Also, I won't have internet until January, so you'll be seeing quite a bit less of me for the next month. I'll still be connecting at work and while helping my girlfriend house-sit for her uncle for two weeks of the month (these two weeks of not being home was why I figured I didn't need internet right away), but there it is.

Just got some vacation days secured for middle of December. In my line of work we never get vacation during December, which is the busiest month. So I concider this a very lucky moment as I also secured a quite nice hotel and ok priced airplane tickets on a short notice.

So in December me and my wife are escaping to London for a few days of some pre-Christmas craziness. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there is no time to meet Thumbs UK representatives even though I personally would really a lot like to meet you guys in person. Sorry about that... there's just so much to see in London and my wife has never been there before so we just have to run around!

One cool thing that I missed previously in UK was Stonehenge and now I will get to see it up close, it's pretty cool for me in my personal list of things I have not yet done and I get to scratch that one out soon from the list. Also as I'm a sports nut and quite big Fulham FC fan, it's also pretty huge for me that I'll get to see them play at the Craven Cottage finally for the first time.

I hope your move has gone well Miffy.

There's lots of snow here. I live in a valley so steep that the bus company just don't bother when it snows. I put some nobbly tyres on the mountain bike, let the pressure out until they were quite soft, and went for a blast in the woods and around the edge of the local golf course, which has this lovely steep hill among others. Got some shouts of "What the fuck?" from people on sledges :)

Traction isn't so bad in snow; it's like wet mud. Ice makes the hill climbs interesting though. Got to practice handling skids until my back brake iced up, and learned a little about effective climbing. I expected it all to be sketchier and was shit scared at first, so had the full face helmet and ski goggles on, but even on fast downhills the tyres only float around a little. As long as you plan ahead it feels fine.

I'm very pleased to have taken up snowboarding and returned to mountain biking this year, the latter has especially filled a void. The two crashes I had in recent months underlined my limits/lack of caution, but I still feel a massive need to hurtle. I'm also building up a good toolkit and find it quite meditative to take things apart, clean and fix them.

Though you do make a good -and dreadful- point there, I've decided to delete the whole thing. Not because of your wake-up call themed post, but rather because I wasn't being fair at all. It is utterly impossible for me to boil down ten years worth of experience, feelings and events into one post. Thereby I fear I've completely misrepresented myself, also because there are some things I deliberately didn't say.

Because of this, I gave you only tools to misunderstand the situation. For that, I do apologize!

I'd love to read about that rising sun place.

As for me, I'm as happy as could be, just got some Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough Icecream, a massive thorntons toffee cake, and 4 mini cheesecakes for £2.30 down at ASDA.

The funny thing is, the ice cream cost £2.

Yeah, your forum just became my facebook.

Hey does anyone here who lives in Austin or parts of Texas around it attend the IGDA meetings?

I was at one last night, way more interesting and eventful than the Houston ones I've been to, and it was time well spent. I met some people but then it dawned upon me that I probably should have put a heads up on the Thumbs forum first in case I have a chance to meet some people here.

I guess maybe next time if anyone goes?

This and QuakeCon are two things that bug me immensely about being a "Texan."

I live in El Paso, which is as far west as it is possible to get and still be in Texas. By all rights, I should live in both New Mexico and Mexico itself.

So I always hear things like "DragonCon!" "QuakeCon!" "Various interesting intellectual conferences!" And then up comes my driving issues, and it all just goes to pot.

So maybe! But no promises.
