Wubbles Posted October 19, 2010 I want to be on the resident-list! My Minecraft name is Uguandou.
Amobius Posted October 19, 2010 did some digging around and found several references to 32 above sea level being default max hight and 64 being depth from sea level. I guess you can crank it up to 64 above sea level, but didnt know if that was the case for our server. Regardless im scaling down my next project so it wont really matter. MrHoatzin Posted October 19, 2010 I have build more than 32 above sea level. My floating island is way higher than 32 and it is not even close to all the way up. I am pretty sure total world height is 128, dude.
Amobius Posted October 19, 2010 must have been set higher.
MrHoatzin Posted October 19, 2010 must have been set higher. My default, first world in SSP was way higher, right out of the box! I guess it could be that the generated world blocks naturally occur with hills and suchlike within the lowest 32 blocks, with the space above available for building, but unfilled for memory purposes. Orv Posted October 19, 2010 Someone started building a giant "YOU MUST GATHER YOUR PARTY BEFORE VENTURING FORTH" sign. I owe this person both a hug and a backhand. That phrase and voice are indelibly etched in my mind for all of my life, and I couldn't breath for about 5 minutes upon encountering the sign.
MrHoatzin Posted October 19, 2010 Funny you should say that. I don't really remember much of Baldur's Gate, barely having played more than a half-hour prolly. When I first encountered that sign it only said "PARTY BEFORE VENTURING FORTH" and I thought it was a lot more fun that way.
Vorithas Posted October 19, 2010 Did you guys impose a Whitelist on the server? I can't get on. =( IGN: Vorithas

I'm the same with the voice. Just one of those things you never forget. After seeing everyone else's video game iconography, i had to do something of my own, and that phrase is probably the thing i think of most when i think video games! Patters Posted October 19, 2010 must have been set higher. Nope, it's been 64 either way from sea level since July. It might be 32 to the bottom of clouds though.
Nachimir Posted October 19, 2010 Nope, it's been 64 either way from sea level since July. It might be 32 to the bottom of clouds though. I think it's a bit less above the clouds, and a bit more below. My tower is built as high as it can be, and only the top sticks through them. Clouds have a uniform height of around 4 or 5 blocks too, and don't quite align with the blocks in the world.
a purple future Posted October 19, 2010 when i built that ugly tower, about 4 floors were below cloud level, one was at it, and there were two more above it. not very scientific, but there you go. its height was maxed out
Amobius Posted October 19, 2010 Well I want to do a scaled down star destroyer, but if i cant get it completely above sea level then i can always just dig down a bit for the aft section.

Chris Posted October 19, 2010 I am pretty sure he was talking about how it looks, not how it's made. And he's right. U:But, like I said, if people like it, more power to them! God knows I've fought some uphill battles in the world of opinions before. I agree. I'm not hugely bothered or anything, and my opinion probably doesn't count for much compared to people who have spent a lot more time in the Thumbs Minecraft world anyway. But the stuff that really impresses me in Minecraft are the crazy creations and surprising things that exist in their own logic. Simply referencing other video games kind of breaks the surreal self-defining character of the Idle Thumbs server, at least to me.

a purple future Posted October 19, 2010 i guess that's also another reason why i'd be okay with the server reset. an excuse to start fresh with old knowledge, make some stuff that's less derivative.
Amobius Posted October 19, 2010 I've had the most fun just making random off the wall stuff instead of trying to make replicas of stuff.
