Adventure thoughts by someone whose 'heart is not in it'

DooM3 has a story, a even greater one than first expected.

:mrt:

I hope so. I still have to get this game.

One question though; does the story advance during gameplay (like Deus Ex, Half-Life, etc...)?

Although I haven't completed it, I didn't find the story very interesting. It didn't advance either for as far as I played it. The only "story elements" were the PDAs I found lying around and those contained either some emails or sound logs alluding to some mini story like a guy who skips work a lot or who receives spam, or messages saying basically "blah blah blah... anyway, the code to the locker right behind you is 3829". I'm not playing it anymore, as I find the surprise spawns right behind me starting to become less scary and more annying, like that infernal flash light juggling.

At the moment I've advanced quite a bit in the game, and it just keeps on surprising me, and the art design is just unbelievably gorgeous, and when you get to *19th level*

Your jaw will drop. I know mine did.

I can't even imagine what id has in storage in the next levels.

The pda does a lot more than just gives you codes, it gives you more info about the story, all the scientists and marines are shitting in their pants and telling what they've heard or experienced. and then there's the video discs.

I would've never thought that the guy who made the story for 7th guest and 11th hour could do a plot as diverse as this, there are small details everywhere and also some easter eggs.

This has been one hell of a year for fps games, first Far Cry came from the bushes and surprised everybody with the superb engine, now DooM3 delivers more technologically advanced game (although Far Cry is more superior with outdoor locations, maybe) that has many times better plot in whole than Far Cry.

And if Half-Life 2 is truly coming in September AND it is as good as the hype says, then I can only say: "Wow, this is one unbelievable year for fps games, three superb A class games in under 6 months."

I've seen the PDA thing before in another game... I think it was Unreal (the first one), but I'm not sure...
