Irishjohn Posted September 14, 2012 Has anyone else been watching Conan O'Brien's "reviews" of games? The whole thing is played for laughs of course, but I think he actually does a great job of highlighting how silly video games can be. His take on Resident Evil 6 is hilarious at times: http://teamcoco.com/video/highlight-clueless-gamer-resident-evil-6 Obviously we're all fans of games here, but I feel like most of us can have a laugh at how silly games can be. I was in stitches at this but I will most likely play Resident Evil 6 at some point, and I hope very much that I have anywhere near as much fun as I did with Resident Evil 4. I don't really want to talk about Resident Evil 5. Does the absurdity of a game ever completely put you off? Speaking for myself, my suspension of disbelief for games will go way beyond where it goes for films.
Brothe Posted September 14, 2012 I grew up on comic books. I usually have no problem suspending disbelief. However, things like how characters move in Valve games, like Left for Dead and TF2, drive me utterly insane.
I_smell Posted September 14, 2012 Aaaaaa this feels pretty corny. Way too much laugh track, it's not really that funny. Lookin at games the wrong way and how dumb they are is kind of a big reason I listen to Idle Thumbs. I mean Max Payne IS a lunatic gun-part collector lookin for golden gun-parts in bathroom stalls. So I can't think of a good one that isn't straight from Idle Thumbs. Devil May Cry got really funny as soon as I noticed my guy was sommersalting around a huge mansion alone, shouting "BREAKDOWN!... BREAKDOWN!!... are you ready? BREAKDOWN!! This party is getting crazy. HAA!! BREAKDOWN!" Then I unlocked the ability to take off my shirt.
Irishjohn Posted September 14, 2012 Huh, I've never had that with Valve games. I really hope you haven't inadvertently ruined my next playthrough of Half-Life 2 for me. I think the bit is a lot more self-aware than it's letting on. It's got this whole "waaah I don't get games whatevs" thing but I think it's a bit funnier than that. The intentionally ridiculous and stupid rating system is pretty good. The thumbs up thing was cracking me up.
I_smell Posted September 14, 2012 Actually now I just watched the Resident Evil one and I did laugh, but mostly at Resident Evil's stoopid jittery bird-people animations.

It is the best one so far. There should be more of this kind of tone, it puts Conan's "agh, I suck at this!" and weird coming on to virtual lady stuff in a new light. In this video he really seems a lot more in on it. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it. But yes, the bird-people animations. Brilliant.
youmeyou Posted September 14, 2012 Did you guys see Conan's series on GTA IV when it came out? I actually really enjoy them because they're more about making the content into something it's not meant to be and less "argh I don't know how to play Video games!" as his new videos tend to be. http://www.wegame.com/watch/Grand_Theft_Auto_4_Conan_O_brien_Part_1/
BigJKO Posted September 14, 2012 "Good work!" "Appreciated." Those hand gestures, and the way Conan stopped up and just kept doing them, and the rating system at the end were great!
melmer Posted September 14, 2012 That was hilarious Good work! I love how the resident evil series has changed from running away from zombies to running towards them and kicking them in the face. PRESS R TRIGGER TO AWESOME I'm going to start roundhouse kicking my way through doors

It just makes me think of those live online servers where everyone is playing GTA in character. Stopping at traffic lights and so on.
Tanukitsune Posted September 14, 2012 I saw the RE6 one and laughed out loud, but I don't think he said anything I wouldn't have heard some other video reviewer say. What game isn't absurd when you really think about it?

BigJKO Posted June 27, 2013 I love it! Love him constantly mentioning babes as an ironic jab at how completely obsessed E3 is with them. Ugh, at the guy saying "We're just keeping it real". So happy Conan pointed out to him how gross and unnecessary that was.
